my first post contained possible spoilers and irrelevant information and may be deleted. (by me)

if you buy a backpack from the quartermaster in ostagar before going into the wilds he will have another if you go straight to him upon your return, before you report back to duncan.

the guide says he only has one to sell.:bandit:

I don't think that it is possible to purchase two packpacks at this point of the game. If I remember right, in my game one costs about 5 gold and you don't have enough stuff to get that amount of cash (except you sell your DLC-items, e.q. the BD-armor, but I don't think anybody will do this).

The backpacks in Ostagar are a lot cheaper than the ones you find later in the game. Both cost under one gold while you pay six or seven gold for them after you leave Ostagar.

Might as well grab those backpacks before that camp turns into ground Zero

I got my second one after the Joining, at night, just before heading to the Tower of Ishal. And yes, it was less than one gold, too.

Yes, this works, and it will help you a lot early on. The backpacks are just affordable if you sell all your extra stuff.

It still doesn't get rid of the maximum backpack size of 125 though, only way to get around that is editing savegames or using mods.

I also noticed that stuff reappeared if you go right to camp and buy stuff before Lothering(sp?) when you go back to camp after, Bodhan has all his wares again though you would have to get ahold of enough coin between Ostagar and Lothering, like going and doing the DLC first or something.

Yeah, didn't know before the second playthough either. Very useful, and I'm fairly sure the only way to get to the 125 limit....

Yup two backpacks in ostagar. For my characters, the first one is 57 silver. Then you do the Wild's come back, and buy the second one for 57 silver again :) I do it everytime now.

It is possible. If you play as a Dwarf Noble there is an opportunity to get 25 Gold at the beginning.

I've noticed this too. It's a rather excellent moneysaver to buy them both at this point. :-) A backpack is always a worthwhile investment!

In my opinion, this actually is a bug or glitch or whatever. You may realize that all stuff is "restocked" to exactly the same amount as before. The stock simply resets. I hate this. Because all stuff you sold (and MAY want to buy back later) is gone as well. This only happens sometimes. I already had playthroughs with merchant resets and some without. So, my conclusion is that these resets are not intentional and are part of a bug.

If you sell the piece of Blood Dragon armor, you will easily have enough to get both backpacks in Ostagar.

I saw somewhere in a previous post that if you take all the equipment from your two companions before the joining you can sell it to the merchant, I have not tried this so I do not know if that is correct.

It is correct. You can also take the equipment from the soldier and mage who accompany you up the tower.
