Hey guy's I haven't been on the forums in along time so hi long time no see XD

-To The Developers & Production Crew-

Ok I wanted to ask what made you love the series from the start?

Do you remember why you fell in love with this game & it's characters?

I do! It was the storyline, making your character out to be the badarse he/she was!

The characters, the passion, the love between friendship and crew, the epic fight's between good and bad.

I hope in any future of this series and title all of this will be remembered. Please don't get away

from what made mass effect awesome. Amazing. It was the way from how it was made from the first 3 games.

-Storyline- -Epic Fights- Amazing Control's & Customization- -The Personalitys of the crew-

And for the most part being able to talk, travel, fight like you did in the games. No other game has ever

been this good with how game play works. Mass effect is way ahead of its time. Thats why its awesome.

I don't want to see another game series go to crap. to many have done it in the past. It's hard to move on

from shepard. Most people would think playing a video game is just a game. Well mass effect has inspired me and made me a better person. Just from shepard's personality. Do and be the best you can and make it count. Sounds rediculous maybe but point being its what made us love the game from the start. So dont forget about the roots of why mass effect is amazing in everyway. thanks for listening and I hope you can remember to keep mass effect for what it means.

In ME1, it was the story, the setting, fighting the good fight.  A wondrous Galaxy filled with aliens.  I loved being on the Citadel in ME1.  I remember Vigil, and seeing the odds against us - seeing that the Protheans in all of their greatness fell.  The price of failure was the ultimate price indeed.  Fighting on the Citadel with Sovereign in the background was a moment I will never forget.

In ME2 it was getting as much of the old crew back as possible, getting the ship and squaddies up to speed - preparing for the Reapers and fighting for the lost.  The suicide mission was epic with exception of the terminator clone reaper thingy.  I did every mission on every planet, got every upgrade possible so that I could walk into ME3 and win the day.

ME3 had some greatness to it.  Genophage cured, peace with the Geth and Quarians.  It was pretty decent until Priority Earth.

Lets hope the devs remember what made the MEU so amazing and wondrous.  Capture the magic back, and run with it!

It will be very hard to eclipse Shepard and the gang.  The bar set pretty high, so BioWare had better dig pretty deep if they think they can pull it off.  I'll have a beer in an hour and wish them luck and success.

Yes exactly this is what made me love ME in general. It is far above what any other game has ever been able to accomplish. To go from a hero of the galaxy to whatever is in store for the next ME game. The bar is set over high. How do you go from the hero who saved an entire galaxy with one of the best AI crews in any game against a galaxy killing swarm of machines. I don't ever see mass effect being as epic an amazing past this. Unless they make a hero who was a decendant of shepard now that would be awesome. A child of the legend himself/herself. Fighting and growing up with children from each of the old crew fighting off against a universal threat. This is the only thing possible to create a game and character better then shepard would have been. The story line is what made mass effect well mass effect. If they go away from the storyline version into more of exploring or just online stuff then the game and title and character shepard was is ruined forever. Hope they think about this in the long run. Mass effect doesn't need a multiplayer unless they make the game coop. Other then that, that is pretty much the reality of it. I know its just a game to some but it means more then that to people who really fell in love with the characters and the epic life of who and what shepard was. I hope they all remember this.

What Tonymac said.

I'd like to add that ME1 especially introduced this unique art direction that just nailed it. This slick, clean, both 80's but also futuristic synthetic, poppy colourful bundle of awesomeness. Including the "horizon"-curve in the logo and the weapon-design, the lensflare, the silly film grain, all of it. And the colours. This is was not a generic us vs. the ugly aliens space shooter. It was a bold, emotional. A true exploration into the unknown of space (and game design).

Oh... and it had this feeling of true sci-fy. Not just "military shooter" but in space. It was truely about something. It didn't shy away of actually being smart and techy. This curiosity in the strange, the unknown. Exploring planets, even if nothing is there other than a otherworldy vista, talking about political systems of goofy aliens, you name it.

And don't forget the music. What game does that nowadays? Introduce a music style that actually stands for its own. It wasn't just generic orchestra battle music. It was distinct and so very well suitable to amplify the overall direction of the game.

And i gotta say, the alien design was superb. Sure, very humanoid (the budget and memory restrictions of the olden days) but in those restriction so well crafted. Believable and yet fresh and new. And don't forget the Hanar. The first time it showed up in my dialog screen in all it's shiny, oscillating glory i new this game would be in my heart forever.

I did like Shep (thanks to Jennifer Hale, mostly) but i always felt that the hero COULD do with a bit more personality on his/her own. She was still rather bland in her heroistic attitude, even the renegade version even if less so.

Some of the companions also were a bit stale (nice to talk to but not incredibly fresh and exciting) but this got a lot better in ME2 and 3.

Generally, what i think sets ME apart from other sci-fy games the most, is this enthusiasm in space and exploration (both in space and also other subjects of more social, psychological or biological nature). And aliens that are "people", not just aggressive simpletons.

Oh boy, i could go on forever...

I'd say that the storyline, squadmate personalization, epic fights, controls and customization don't make Mass Effect. They make a great game which, in this case, happens to be Mass Effect.

I think Mass Effect is made from several factors.

1) Those small world details like collapsing guns, weapon overheating, omni-tools, door lock icon etc.

2) Save import. IMO that's what makes the trilogy so great. I don't know of any other series that allows us to play the same protagonist and carry almost all of our decisions in the consequent games.

3) Believable world. It's clearly fictional but it is also something one can see happening in the far future. The technology is explained (mostly) and that explanation makes sense, even if it seems impossible now.

4) Races. Turians, quarians, asari, krogan, volus, elcor, hanar... all are unique and have interesting characteristics. Also, not all characters from these races fit the in-game stereotypes, creating a sense of depth one would expect in a real world.

It's still nice to see people who know what mass effect really is and stands for.

I'm just praying that the new one will be even more intense then the last. I like the military combat,

but story and friendship between crew and close teammates is where the emotional connection is.

I do like the way the citadel dlc was set up in mass effect 3. I think it was amazing.

Best citadel look yet. I just wish they would take the new story 50+ years after shepard.

So we can see what the world is like in the future for all the he/she did.

Emotional connection with characters. Lots of dialogues and loyalty missions.

And Tali, of course. Just because.

What makes Mass Effect Mass Effect? To me being the spiritual successor to the KOTOR games to be honest. Not that its a bad thing since KOTOR was my first western rpg which got me into Bioware games/rpgs. So yeah a win/win for Bioware.

Mass Effect to me was about defying inevitability.  It was about getting the job done without compromising yourself.  It's about defining what to you is a "hero".  WHo you associate with, who you travel with, what relationships you form.

At lesa tthat's how it started out.  before it went from a game to a movie.

What I loved most about ME was discovering the different cultures and how they live and worship. Their laws and politics. Their history and mistakes.

I would have liked to have seen more of this, especially on their home turf. I would have liked to have gotten the chance to experience the Batarian homeworld and see what their caste system was really like. Or see the architecture and cities of Palaven. That sorta thing.

But all that was what gave me a real sense of discovery and wonder. The exploration of people and their cultures.

edit: but i also loved those skyboxes. :)

I have no idea what makes it so good. Everything is just so amazing and original.

Probably the world, the characters, the choices, the music, the whole atmosphere, the immersion and above all, that oustanding me1 storyline jeez. I wonder if Bioware will ever surpass this.

ME brought fantasy into a new realm, politics, trials, combat, conversations, plot twists, bars, clubs, alien races. It's just oustanding they managed to deliver so much that other games and media simply never have.

Can't deny this game has ruined movies for me, GG, hope I'm not alone...

My top fav things about mass effect I have to say is.

The Characters, the friendships, the plot, the storyline, the relationships.

The personalitys, the exploration, the will to fight when all odds are against you.

And least but last #1 thing. Cause shepard was just everything no other hero in any game

could be or has been. Willing to die for what is right and always put friendship first.

Well, for me it's prolly gonna be a lil' different.  I started playing with two.  First time through, I didn't understand it, but that's prolly 'cause I wasn't listening all that hard.  And plus, coming in on two...  Well, you get the idea.  The second time I played is when I fell in love.  Second time through, there were some things I didn't quite understand, but I fell in love with Jack.  She says and does things from the heart, she's reactionary.  Very emotional, in fact I think one of her tag lines was pure emotion.   Oh yah, and Aria.   Swoon.  God.

I think I fell in love with the characters first.  The story second and the universe third.  Because you can have a stark white hall way in any universe.  You can even have a good story.  You can even have fun planets to explore.  But until you characters that I absolutely adore, like Jack and Aria, it's all off for me.

What I enjoyed about Mass Effect from the beginning?  Every thing.  I enjoyed literally every thing about this series.  The atmosphere, the music, the character interaction, the story, the gameplay, the setting....  Until it all came crashing down in the last 15 minutes.  And now every time I think of Mass Effect, I think of utter disappointment.

Really, what I think made ME was the amount of mystery boxes that they had.  Lemme explain.

I started another playthrough recently, and I started to do something I have rarely done.  Which is read the planet's description.  Even on planets with no surveying or landing capability.  The thing that I'm finding is the Insuannon (I might be spelling that wrong) are mentioned in ME1 along with an almost perfectly preserved ship.  This accompanies a turian who wrote one paper on the ship, then nothing was ever heard of again.

Then, you have the one planet with the tails so deep in the atmosphere that nothing can get to it.  Scientists decide that it's their dead and move on.

Then of course, the infamous beings of light.

I mean, it's just one mystery on top of another mystery on top of another mystery.  It's a blast just to go back through ME1 and just read the planets descriptions again.  Because that's where half (if not more) of the mystery lies.

The atmosphere of heavily populated areas, the strange cultural mishmash on the Citadel, and the prospect of discovering interesting or dangerous things out in the wilds of the galaxy. Most importantly, having companions that could actually talk about it all the while. Having adventures in space with friends is a pretty basic fantasy that I've entertained since I was a little kid, so naturally Mass Effect ticked a lot of boxes on my approval list.

What made ME1 great for me was all the little things that make gaming fun, like a multitude of items you had to use your brain to work with and all the little things you can buy in the stores. Also destructible objects, deep lore and side quests with proper story, not just fetch quests.

Nothing will beat that first playthrough feeling of stepping into a new game universe, but having all those little things in the next game, (which has been described as vast), will certainly help.

What it is in my perspective:

The setting:

A realistic sci-fi universe that is depicts a believable future. Earth is part of the galactic community. Humanity and aliens, organics and synthetics with conscious thought coexisting in the same timeline. Various planets, atmospheric and full of wonder and awe.

The genre:

A space opera. Action, mystery, thriller, adventure in "techy-talky" science fiction. It has important lore and it sticks to it and never purposefully contradicts it. It is also very character-driven which implies character development.

The gameplay:

RPG and Action. Character management is important. Interactive dialogue is key. Fun action-packed gameplay is in it as well. Emphasis on exploration and non-linearity but with a well-paced overarching structure to tie it properly together.

What it isn't:

The Setting:

A completely fictional fantasy universe with only unique planets and races and humans who didn't come from Earth. It isn't dystopian or utopian. Earth isn't the center of the universe, and humanity is equal with aliens.

The Genre:

A generic TPS or a racing game. It isn't an MMO or an open-world RPG. It also isn't comedy or romantic comedy.

The gameplay:

Generic setpiece action segments with explosions everywhere and constant larger-than-life situations that plays like an interactive Michael Bay movie. Lacking focus on non-linearity including a lack of interactive dialogue.

Winners:

Setting: ME1 and ME2

Genre: ME1, ME2 and ME3

Gameplay: ME1 and ME2

Sinners:

Setting: ME3

Genre: ME2 retcons, ME3 Ending, Citadel DLC. ME4?

Gameplay: ME3

For ME1, it was Faunts. I sort of just grinded quests and immersed myself in the storyline, but then I beat it and the song came up and it just hit... the song portrayed every feeling I had from start to finish. The bittersweet triumph. And I still love that song.

In ME2, it was getting to see Kaidan again. They teased me so much and then he never joined my crew. My poor heart. I'm a little ashamed that this was the main theme for me, lol. But I felt like the magic was missing when I wasn't in the Alliance.

In ME3, I feel like I got to know Shepard as a human being better. The scenes of her dreams, and the whispers of the people who died under her leadership in previous games... Joker extending his concern for her, saying that Anderson asked to keep an eye on her. We got to see exactly how beautiful and extensive her love for her crew was. I loved meeting with them on the Citadel--especially Garrus' meeting. I can just imagine the cars flying by and the sun shining and Garrus laughing as he was called King of the Bottle Shooters. BW really made that scene memorable for me.

That, and I love scifi. The ending really expanded my mind. When we consider the technology and the setting... is it ever really the end? Not in my story. Regardless of what happened to her physical form, Shepard is still out there... somewhere. *sniff*

Most scifi is really bad, IMO.  Of course, the SciFi network (television) must have writers that rank right above porn writers.  So, that may have soured my liking of scifi.
