Apparently Gaider confirmed the Architect is indeed a magister:

Confirmed that the Architect is a magister?

http://shallowgraves...n-age-universe/

In the Dragon Age 2 downloadable content, Legacy, players discover that Corypheus, an ancient darkspawn, was one of the original Tevinter magisters. I asked David Gaider if the Architect of Dragon Age: Awakening is also a former magister, and if he’ll play a part in upcoming events in the DA universe.

Yeah,” Gaider agreed, “he is the same type of character as Corypheus, absolutely. Whether he pops up, well, possibly. I think so… I mean, obviously not if you killed him.”

Thoughts?

He didn't say he was a Magister.

He said he was like Cory.

I'd take that as both being intelligent Darkspawn.

So our choice to kill it or not, may not matter, since he can transfer his soul to another darkspawn.

Well, it was pretty obvious...they wouldn't have made them look so similar otherwise.

Also I doubt us fighting him in Awakening actually kills him, considering how Corypheus could also be reborn instantly through the nearest tainted being. We thought that the Architect was gone if we fought him but if he really is exactly like Corypheus, then he's not dead.

But Gaider also said he won't appear if we killed him hinting thus that he is really dead.

Of course, different Magisters may have been granted different powers.

Imagine if killing him meant that he wound up possessing the Warden and that's the reason he tried to find a cure for the Calling.

It doesn't look like the possessed have much of a say in the matter if they get possessed though. Also they can explode.

...well there goes my theory that Corphy was a Architect replacement.

They should just bring him back nevertheless like Cory. He's too good character to stay dead.

If they really want to bring him back they could say he possessed Velanna's sister, after all she survives and gets away no matter what you do. Or even just have her fill his role in playthroughs where he's dead. It's certainly far less of a change than having to recapitate Leliana.

Please let him stay dead. -_-

I know he has the perfect excuse (body hopping) but ugh. Please let the warden have actually killed him.

Architect was the chillest villain ever. I really hope they don't write him off.

Or the Messenger, for that matter. I love the idea of a 'good' darkspawn.

I didn't play DA2 but I've seen clips of the Architect on YouTube. I thought it by default that he was a Darkspawn magister.

I mean the dude looks just like Cory.

I liked the Messenger. He's like Thedas' version of Batman.

Probably closer to Thedas' version Hannibal King.  The one from the comics, where he was a "good" vampire, not the one from the really terrible Blade sequel.  But I liked him too.  I kinda want him to be a companion at some point, but I know it's never going to happen.

Yeah, the fact he can be killed off means him being a companion is even more slim than having a Darkspawn companion at all.

I'm pretty sure the Architect resurrected, but he's smarter and more patient than Corypheus, he plays a longer game.

I bet he's the reason Weisshaupt has gone silent.

Wouldn't that just be a big rehash of what Corypheus was doing to the Wardens?
