So....basically the thinking of some in this thread is that if they don't program vastly different versions of the game, then the choices don't matter?
That Kieran plays no role, so its not respecting a past choice. That events still occur the same whether its Stroud or Alistair telling you about them and going with you, so its not really respecting a past choice.
But if we had a different person to replace Leliana, even though it would still be similar dialogue and all of the same events would happen, THAT would be respecting a past choice? That would count?
I played a run through of DA:O where I killed pretty much everybody, and I made a play through where I kept everyone and did all of their dialogue and had everyone loyal to me. Bioware is really supposed to design games with MAJOR differences for ANY possible permutation of choices from the earlier games? While still responding to fan requests that we see our beloved characters again in these future games?
Sure its not perfect, and sure it sucks to not to have every major choice be reflected in the next games, but I think we need to step back and be grateful that any choices are respected at all. Name 5 developers who give you more choices, more ability to craft your own story, than bioware? Name a single one who has had the same number of choices, and then had multiple successive games where ALL of those choices were respected and held through. I can't even think of other franchises that do that.
They have x amount time, x amount of staff, and x amount of resources to make these games. They can't just do everything, make 20 different versions of the game for whatever choices you made.
You're upset that dead leliana came back. Fine. That is a big choice that gets negated by her being in the future games, especially if you defiled the sacred urn with her there and had to fight her. I do get that.
But to say Bioware doesn't respect choice and it sucks to play their games because they just do whatever they want without regard to the players, who else is giving you the amount of choice that get in this games through successive games?
This isn't just in response to things here, I have seen this complaint mirrored throughout the forums, and several people getting far nastier than anyone in this thread did, and it just astonishes me.
When I was a kid I couldn't have dreamed of having the choices , having the ability to influence and craft the story to the level that we get from these games. It amazes me how people today get handed something amazing, something so much improved from the past, and yet because it still isn't perfect, they whine.
