Its okay, there are more lyrium deposits in the world then what are needed to complete the quest. You can safely ignore this one

in all the 3 places in hinterland where im supposed to destroy the lyrium deposit i never have the option to destroy them
Might be a bug, try another area

Have you spoken to Varic about Red Lyrium yet? The quest only opens once you have spoken to Varic about red lyrium.

if raf has the quest he must have, try running up to it and pressing the use key continually as you get closer to it. when you get near it, it may explode then. oh, and make sure you're using a warrior to click on it too.
i have this varric quest in my book.
I am going with he is looking at a prima guide. Although he could mean journal instead of book. Covering all the bases.
good point... ![]()

Are you a warrior? You have to be a warrior to destroy the deposits, just like you have to be a mage to energize things and a rogue to pick locks. If you're not one, take control of whatever warrior you have in your party and give it a go.

Huh? No you don't. I've destroyed plenty of them with my two inquisitors, a mage and a rogue.

You can actually just attack them. I've destroyed tons by just immolating them when they're too far away and I'm lazy.
Appears to be system dependent. PC requires a warrior, but my PS4 mages can too (probably all classes.)
i've always had to use a warrior to destroy the red lyrium and i'm on pc.

Actually,no. You don't. I assumed that, because it had the Shield Bash icon on it. But one time my Rouge did it by mistake and I found out I'd been swapping my warriors in each time for no reason. ![]()

Weird.
I've tried them all out, was able to destroy red lyrium deposits every time.

Nope. A rogue (PC) here. From what I know the only difference is the button that is used to do so. I'm playing on a PC with a pad, and it's 'A' (use, close the breach, loot, talk etc). I've heard that it's different for the K+M controls, but I don't know which button is that. Attack, may be?
How to you get to the ones in stormcoast
A bit later in the game -- after you choose which side to recruit (mages or templars), a mission eventually opens up that lets you into the caves where they are. I'm pretty sure it's after you get the "Darkspawn on the coast" mission and finish that one first. It might not open until you reach Skyhold though. It might be a level thing too, since the mobs in there are all at least level 11 as I recall.

Some of the deposits in the Storm Coast only become accessible later in the game.
My rogues and mages can't either, I always thought that you can't use "bash" with anything than warrior the same way that you can only use mage for some things and rogues for some others.

That's the exact same setup as me. PC but using a controller. "Use" button blows up lyrium, no warrior needed.

That's not really a 'bash' action. Have you tried attacking it? I can't believe that the controller can change the game-play that much. Running\walking is one thing, but requiring a different class on the same platform?..

I play on a PC without a controller and can only get rid of it with a warrior who has learnt the Bash skill, the icon on the Lyrium is useless and greyed out until those requirements are met. I hadn't thought anything of it until now. Like you needing a mage to light Veilfire/move objects and a rogue to unlock doors.
