I thought that was a game mechanic (the whole 'Oh, if you don't bring one of each class along with you, you'll miss out on some stuff!' thing. Though I do know that's not strictly true for things like barriers and barricades. But locked doors and lyrium deposits? And things that need to be 'energized' like fallen bridges or wrecked ladders, etc?). I am on PC and I've gotten the 'Uuuh, nope' message trying to do it with a non-warrior, but my 2handers who definitely don't have bash (or a shield equipped) can break them no problem. I'll have to try being more creative with them in the future!

But, as others have already said, if the OP is going off of a guide, having a warrior in the party (to be totally 100% sure the thing should function) isn't going to help if Varric hasn't mentioned he's got a beef with the stuff and would appreciate it if you went around smashing it to bits.

Edit: Usually I get that quest fairly early just by talking to Varric at Haven a few times. I think you probably have to travel between Haven, the Hinterlands, and back at least once, though.

you needing a mage to light Veilfire/move objects and a rogue to unlock doors.

Moving object, breaking barriers, bashing walls and energizing works same for the gamepad. Of a sudden I'm not so sure about the Veilfire, I know that I had been running with a torch, but very likely it was Solas who had lit it.

Looks like this action is bugged, I don't think it is supposed to work both ways, it's either we need a warrior here or not.

That's not really a 'bash' action. Have you tried attacking it? I can't believe that the controller can change the game-play that much. Running\walking is one thing, but requiring a different class on the same platform?..

Yeah I did, the very fist time I encountered "bashable" lyrium I didn't had a warrior in my party, I tried it with a rogue and a mage, until I noticed that the icon was greyed and went to fetch a warrior. The icon is always greyed for me if i don't pick a warrior. It's the same thing with moving objects, bashable walls and open locks for me.

Nah, you only need to complete the red lyrium dialogue with him.
