So I am level 17 2HW Champion. Been running around ED Lion getting more confident on my game play, builds, strategy etc. I go across the repaired bridge to the arena where the 2 dragons live. I didn't fight them, I went towards the occularium icon, through a gate. I see some red templar monster type dudes. I engaged them, except these guys had like a red laser beam of some sorts.....cut my whole party down in like 5 seconds. I play on HARD, not NM. Man. Good thing I saved right before the encounter. WTF are those particular enemies? And how do you defend against their lasers or whatever that attack they had?
Thought I was cruising....then

They higher level, if an enemy is 3 levels higher than you it gains a damage bonus against you. Also make sure your armour is up to date and your magic resistance as magic resistance works against magic and all elements.

It was quick too. I was just about to try NM, then this happened.

On a templar you can purge the beam off. Dispel works too.

OK good to know. None of my mages have dispel. Might be time to re spec again.

I feel like I am gonna out level the game though. I still havent been to the Winter Mansion, Western Front, Emerald Graves, Hissing Wastes, am I leaving any out? Already LV 17. At least I can still get my butt kicked in a random encounter. That's why I loved Origins so much. Like that fight in town, that gives you the Keening Blade? I forget the name of the boss. Dude kills you in 2 seconds if you don't know what your doing.

You may want to do less roaming around and fewer side quests. I spent too much time exploring and badly out-leveled the game. For the last 20 hours or so I didn't get experience from any fights except the highest level demons and dragons (and even then, I got very little)... but unfortunately, the rifts kept spitting out weaklings and it was impossible to avoid the majority of fights. So... depending on whether or not that kind of thing interests you, it might be better to try to finish the game before this happens...
Alternatively, you could try running away from fights more often... but if you have that many zones to visit and clear, it sounds like you will out-level all of the content there no matter what you do.

I am a completionist. I also take my time. I am already 100 hours in. Not sure how people finish these games so quickly. It's like they never make a mistake or spend 20 minutes trying to jump to a spot your not supposed to be able to get to, lol. I even spent time last night talking to Party members trying to progress their side stories and quests. I am not looking forward to the Mansion...I know its a main part of the game but from what I read it sounds really confusing.

lots of people don't care for side stories and prefer to just jump through the main quests.
Personally, I'm a completionist like you, it's the only way I can truly enjoy a game ![]()

^ Right on. I can't sit and play all day. So I want this game to last me a while. When I go through a second time I won't waste as much time because I will know whats what and not make as many mistakes.

+1, one of the biggest issues I've had with this game is direction - it's like the devs went out of there way to withold info from you. At least on my next playthrough I'll know which quests to do, which to skip, and what level I should be in each given place.

You mean the Winter Palace? Yes for a completionist it is a nightmare. Just one hint, if you want to complete everything in there, you will have to be good at pausing the game mid jump and grabbing an item (set to take while in the air, unpause, got it.)

Are you referring to that halla statue in the rafters of the kitchen? Cause there are some boxes you can jump on to get into the rafters and walk right up to it.

You save time/court approval by jumping and I do that too. Just jump to the table, then jump upwards and cklick pause and take the statue while in midair. Quick and easy.

So that's how you do it. I'll get it next game then...that thing makes me so mad!

So there are two ways to get it then? I haven't figured this one out either but I'll get it next time. ![]()
added: at least I've managed to get 100% approval both times even if I'm a lousy jumper/climber/grabber. ![]()

People are needlessly intimidated by the Winter Palace. It's very easy to get to 90+ approval even while being an Elven Mage who takes her time exploring. Just pick the "international man of mystery" dialogue options (almost always the middle ones) and you'll be drowning in approval. Then you can take your time searching for all the Halla Statues you please.
It's still the dumbest part of the game that I try to get over with as fast as possible.
If I wanted to play search and fetch I'd start metal detecting.

Well sure. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. I'm just telling people not to be intimidated by the supposed difficulty. You might not enjoy it. But if you pick the right dialogue options, it isn't hard.

You can raise court approval by +45 in just one dialogue/cutscene, even maybe more. So maxing court approval before the last part is easy.

Jumping on the crates to get to the rafters also gets you a codex entry that you can't reach any other way.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, you can reach it by jumping from the table as well. I got it and the statue this way, although it was very frustrating, as I didn't know about the crate jumping.
