Disclaimer: I did not hate Inquisition. I just think that it has wasted potential everywhere you look. Overall, though, it was a pretty good game.

That said, this plot was a lot weaker, in my opinion, than that of most Bioware games. There are lots of reasons for this, but to me, the biggest issue is how contrived the premise is.

I'm referring to the scene with Coryfishstick, Quizzy, the Divine, and the Idiot Ball. The major flaws in this scene are as follows:
1. Nobody notices that the Divine, the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THEDAS, is missing. Is every religious and military leader in the world just that incompetent? Or were they aware she was missing and searching for her? If so, why was the Quizzy alone? If not, why wasn't the Quizzy at the meeting?
2. The Divine is being held immobile through magical means, yet somehow manages to knock the Idiot Ball out of Coryfishstick's hand. Are the grey warden mages just that incompetent? Moreover, is Coryfishstick just that incompetent? He seems to have a pretty strong grip; could a frail old lady even knock the Idiot Ball out of his hand?
3. How does the Idiot Ball give the Quizzy the mark? Was it designed to do this? Did it do that because Coryfishstick had activated it? If so, why didn't Coryfishstick take the mark for himself to avoid the exact kind of thing that happened?
4. Why wasn't the door guarded? (EDIT: To clarify, I'm asking why Coryfishstick didn't post guards to keep someone from interrupting the ritual.)
5. Why didn't they magically silence the Divine? Or even just gag her? Again, is Coryfishstick that incompetent?

I get that lots of plots require suspension of disbelief, especially in Fantasy. However, this plot strikes me as having an unusual number of problems.

What do you think?

I think you're nitpicking.  We're not presented with exactly what happened at the temple, just a few memories from the inquisitor's perspective.  I'm sure BW could contrive answers to your questions, but I'm not sure what value it would bring to the inquisitor's story.

re: Orb, we don't really know what it is or what it can do other than blow a hole in the world.  Why it gave the mark *might* be answered in a sequel, once we learn more about what Solas was / is trying to do.

Would it be so unusual for the Divine to enter the Temple of sacred ashes alone? They might have thought she was praying, not being held hostage, especially if Coryphinius was lying in wait inside already.

The tiny things you miss while you're too busy creating stunning visuals and coming up with new ideas for fetch quests. ;)

Disclaimer: I don't hate Inquisition either.

Given what happened in Kirkwall with Anders blowing up the chantry, I would expect more caution.

I actually think that most of us are playing this game to much and starting to notice small things that really dosn't bother anyone else. I suggest playing something else for a while.

Very likely, the Divine's guards were killed by the Wardens and Cory.

And yes, it appears that the ball was meant to give Cory the mark, but ended up giving it to the Inquisitor instead.

I don't think a lot of people can play something else, even if they hate it so much.

For them, it's like being hooked on cough syrup. Tastes like sh*t but you still get high.

1) Of course they did, that's why Quizzy was sent to see where she was.

2) Quizzy entering makes people lose concentration then batter-up.

3) Quizzy touched it, before it was floating above Cory's hand so no touchy.

4) Come on, if you are going to capture and use someone as a sacrifice, you kill everyone guarding them.

5) Because they didn't think it mattered.

... come on, if you are going to moan at least give us hard things to answer.

Sounds very machonistic tbh. But I do it too but I tell myself its for the achivements. (its not or I would force myself to finish the horror that is assassins creed unity.)

Edit: I love the game but I'm starting to remeber almost every line and that is not good if I ever want to play it again.

When dealing with fantasy fiction it doesn't really have to be logical. You can make up anything to explain away the questions that are bothering you like I am going to do. 1. The Divine was being impersonated by a demon/magical construct/illusion take your pick. 2. Cory was distracted when the future Inquisitor walked in on the ritual, losing his concentration briefly and he had a lose grip on the Orb. 3. The Orb can do many things, but Cory was using it to create a spell to open a rift in the Fade. The Orb was almost primed and ready when the Divine knocked it out of Cory's hand and the future Inquisitor picked it up receiving the spell Cory and the Orb created. 4. It wasn't guarded because of Cory's arrogance. 5. Again because of Cory's arrogance. I'm sure others can make up better explanations, but you really can make up anything you want to explain away these things. Or maybe the plot holes are not holes at all but divine intervention from the Maker.

I think he meant why wasn't there any guards making sure that Cory doesn't get interrupted.

Agreed with OP. Severely disappointed with BSN. So, if someone sees a plot hole, he/she is nitpicking or trolling? Ugh, what? But I guess plot doesn't matter much when you have "oh pretty dragons!" and "oh the romancez!" to distract you.

I also found that scene ridiculous. Why wasn't anyone guarding the doors when Cory was doing the dirty thing with the Divine? He couldn't even lock the fricken door? Why did he just stare at the magic orb when it fell and rolled to our hero?

Holes in storytelling like this take away a lot from player experience. Especially when the game markets itself to be a deep and complex story.

As long as we have sex and violence... who needs a plot that makes sense?

Just as long as it at least pretends to make sense, it's all good, innit? ;)

1. Everyone notices the Divine is dead.Like every major NPC talks about it LOL.

2. , 3. 4. 5. We don't know what exactly happened and Cory is incompetent, true.Just look at the YOLO move he did in the last mission.

That was part of another question that I was answering.

As for Cory having guards, he may not have had enough people. Or, being the arrogant fellow that he is, he could have decided that guards weren't necessary.

I found the scene somewhat ridiculous as I think someone that close to a leadership role would not have been missed by someone. This just make it look like the Divine is not looked after by garuds or Merc's that the chantry has paid to be body garuds. It's makes it kind of stupid to me at least I would have had Corynphus hold a chantry sister not the divine from a book that not many have read. This game felt like giant plot hole if you haven't read the comic book just like ME3. That shouldn't be how you write a game since comics should be secondary reading material.

Not sure why someone might think it's a troll thread, I actually wondered the same things myself. If this plan was so long in the making like cory said, why was it so hard to have someone standing outside the room to make sure they weren't interrupted? I too call BS that at a conclave with so many high ranking members of both the circle of magi and the templars, where tempers could easily flare and an incident might occur, security wasn't a bit tighter.  The divine could so easily be spirited away without anyone noticing except random player character. Justinia even calls out 'run while you can, warn them!" again begging the question, wtf was everyone else in relation to what was going on? and why was your character the only one nearby who heard anything fishy going on?
