Rogue or Mage?

I'm currently still on my first play-through as a female Qunari rogue, and I'm already thinking ahead to my second character. I've read a lot about the different storylines that can occur depending on your class and race, and I've already decided to go with elf next time.

But what would be a more satisfying class to play as a female elf - rogue or mage?

A rogue can deliver some really awesome critical damage once you get their abilities powered up. And I do love going stealth. But a mage might be fun to play.

Thoughts? Opinions?

:)

They're all fun, gameplay wise. I've played warrior and mage more than rogue though. I can't tell you what will work storywise for you. I think human mage is great for the Conclave and Chantry story, and mage in general giving you two types of personality options (racial and mage dialogue changes).

I played as a mage and I thought it was lots of fun, especially once you learn Fade Step and can zip around the battlefield (the upgrade even inflicts some nice frost damage...).  Plus, I tend to like the idea of an Inquisitor who is familiar with the Fade and arcane forces prior to the events of the game.

Since you're already playing a rogue with your qunari, you should roll a mage next for the sake of variety. Pick Knight Enchanter as a specialization... you won't regret it!

Pick the other fighting style of rouge (archery instead of daggers or the reverse) and continue to be one of the cool kids. Mages are so passe.

I'd do that, if there weren't already 2 awesome archers.

You did good.

You can never have too many archers.

Cool advice, everyone!

LadyofClockwork7 makes a good point; since I'm already playing as a rogue, maybe I should try out another class.

But like DisgustedNoise says, I haven't played using daggers yet. Hmmmm. Oh the decisions.

I'm currently playing as a rogue but I started my elf mage one too. Rogue is very fun but a Mage always fun as well.

I miss Arcane Warrior alot but Knight Enchanter is really good. I wish we could get different weapons with it. Like a dagger or something

Once a Rogue, always a Rogue.

The thing with Rogues this time round is that all three specs play very differently from one another but all are OP once they get rolling with Tempest being just plain broken.

Rouge is 'in', according to the Orlesians of Val Royeaux.

Personally, the way I go about this starts with the Keep first. Using past concepts of heroes to creating an overarching storyline. Sometimes I don't want overlap of classes. Like all warriors everytime. In some cases it works, but if I were to look at this as a trilogy of novels, it'd be kind of weird.. just to keep having warriors or rogues or mages showing up as a protagonist. I like to mix it up.

For me it is archer > mage > dagger rogue

I just LOVE using bows.

But the best thing to do is to try every class.

Aye, this is what I like to do as well.

Between my Hawke and my Inquisitor I have an imbalance of mages in my canon world-state now, though. I reckon I better roll another mundie next game. :S

I've played a tempest archer, a rift mage and my current playthrough I am running a DW assassin. I am LOVING the assassin. I think it's edging out my rift mage as far as my enjoyment goes, but I've always been partial to rogues in most games I play.

Same, though it's more of just something that came about naturally than anything I planned, though I do like it.

My canon Cousland was a rogue.

Hawke has to be a mage as far as I'm concerned. So canon Hawke mage.

And finally, my "Wayward Son" Trevelyan is a warrior.
