I have heard several people say that having enough people with high prestige may result in higher level items, though it hasn't been confirmed.  Only coincidental evidence thus far.

I think that is all in their heads. If you usually buy chests as you can afford them and one day you save up and buy 10 in a row and get uniques, you'll think you have better odds buying them in bulk. If you have an alchemist selected and get a unique dagger, you'll think that the selected character influences the loot result. But at the end of the day it is RNG screwing with you.

I'm pretty sure that there's some kind of increased odds of good stuff in the commendation chests. I guess I could be super-lucky, but I unlocked two level 21 Rares, and a level 22 Rare in my two chests this weekend.

Get out of here! I don't know what unspeakable tasks you have done for the RNG gods but all I know is that their evil stink is strong on you! We won't be swallowed into the depths of servitude just for better loot so take your silver tongued lies elsewhere!

If it makes you feel any better, I loaded my best Keeper armour with my best Rare armour upgrades, and both upgrades promptly disappeared, never to be seen again.

I'm still upset about it.

Hence why I said it has been coincidental thus far.  Though as far as the RNG goes I have had better luck shopping in the store in the match screen than the starting screen.  But this as well could just be coincidental.  Though I hear you about the RNG screwing you over... Was excited to get an item lvl 54 armor... but then realized the thing had an armor rating of 0... So wish I could salvage armors...

This happened to me the other day when I got better armor for my Reaver and then attached a couple upgrades.  Though I exited out and reentered a couple times and they were magically there.  Maybe a server lag or something?

The only way to play the RNG, especially with gamble boxes, is time stamping. And the way these chests are set up time stamping is very difficult.

Edit: and to be clear, everyone knows RNG is not actually random. It's just processed in such a way that the results seem random to you

You and every single one us of, so sick of seeing all those stupid white armor sets I'll never use.

As far as RNG, I naively keep telling myself that since I haven't had anything half decent in forever, statistically speaking I should get something soon.... right?

Not really, the only people I want bad things to happen to are undergeared people who try to run ahead and solo. I enjoy watching you die from across the map!

But that does suck, hope they turn up magically one day

lol Keep telling yourself whatever it takes to get you through the day... Maybe The Maker or Andraste will take pity on you!  If not... Make a deal with Corypheus :3  I get a decent weapon every now and then, though I only play on Saturday and the last decent weapon I got was probably 3 weekends ago.  Or maybe 2, whenever I got my decent generic maul.

I guess I have had some good luck here and there, but when all I want is HOK rings, I am pretty much setting myself up for disappointment.

My prestige is currently 238... I've been pretty lucky in comparison to some of the threads I've seen, but I can't draw any correlation from my prestige level to the loot I get.

The only thing I do is buy the medium chests instead of the large ones. I still get tons of common junk.

I play quite a bit so I'm guessing it's just a larger sample size/more chances taken that will get you gear.

Funny you should mention that, friend of mine plays much less than I do and exclusively buys medium chests. In the last 4-5 days he got Longbow of the Griffon, the HOK rogue dagger and some 20+ unique staff. I saved up 8500 or so gold and opened all medium chests, not even a low level unique. CURSE YOU RNG

I have been playing most every weekend since the game came out and got my first and second rings last weekend.  I got a belt of staggering today XD

I hear you, it took me over a month to even get a single common belt.

One weekend I kept getting the random 1 level of armors for the Keeper and Dwarf Warrior (can't remember his class).  Not really worth anything, but they do provide a bit of a skin change... But still... Le sigh :/

Just completed the weekend event. I got a Archon a Lightning a Staff level 21 63 lightning damage and 30% attack, level 18 bow Perseverance, and superior prowler arms level 23.

Not too bad I guess.

I'm starting to wonder if this rumor was put in place by the Übers in order to artificially keep others from creeping up to their level in the leaderboards.

Nah people are just superstitious and try to see patterns in things and draw all these strange connections. I played with a guy who swore switching the difficulty to Perilous before spending at the store yielded high lvl drops.

I saw  quite a few 16 ,17,18s on lowest level MP maps killing all mobs and poor low level guys (1 to 8) especially melee could not get a kill credit, saw quite a few  low levels  leave, really felt sorry for them and before you ask I was a low level melee guy that got only six kills, sure I could go on my higher level mage and level the playing field  but that defeats the  weekend challenge purpose and not really fair on that map level.

I just did solo runs. With good gear and high level character you can steamroll routine, there is no reason to be slumming it with the newbies and ruining their fun.

Too bad other high level players don't think like you,I'm going to go back in and see if things have calmed down, other wise  might  have to  solo  my  low level  class and gear  should be fun lol.

Ironic for me since sword is the only thing I have a crap weapon for, bow, dagger, staff, greatsword, maul are  not a problem.

Exactly. I mean you could make an argument about carrying lowbies for free and easy xp but most people actually play a video game to play a video game. I agree though it's discourteous to roflstomp through routine in a team if you know that you can solo it. I always solo these Weekend Events and you can knock them out in 2 missions.

As I had said before it was announced, Swords and Mauls. Bioware is very predictable.
Next Weekend it will be Pots and Dogs.

Agreed 100%. This is why when I would slum in silver in ME3, I would take say...the eviscerator or tempest instead of the wraith or hurricane. It's kind of embarrassing to be overgeared + overlevelled in lower difficulties.
