Sure all races are awesome but just like in DA:O where I thought that the human noble Warden got the best of the story (with Arl Howe and the Landsmeet especially) it seems that in DA:I the Elves got favoured (and I don't say this in a negative way)

With all the revelations about Mythal/Flemeth and Solas/Dread Wolf at the end of the story I imagine there would be a lot more connection if you play as an Elf Inquisitor

I have only played as a human mage so far but during the Well of sorrows I definitely wanted regretted it because my human mage didn't give two shits about the elven gods or their history

Anyone agree? What do the players who picked a female/male Elf Inquisitor think?

I think every race except for a dwarf has some connection with the story, but I agree that the elf has a stronger connection to the late game plot. However, the human is most closely connected with the Andrastian part of the plot.

I generally only play an Elf in these game. I was very happy with what I? perceived to be "Elf" related story arcs being developed in the game. From my perspective, it is more than what I have seen in the past.

@simpatikool:  Myself as well.  I always play as an elf if given the chance and I'm glad it was confirmed that Solas took Flemeth's power and not that Flemeth took over Solas.  I think Elves and Elven history need some attention.  IMO because of my elf thing!

I don't think so. I think most people in the game would have had the same attitude the guard at Redcliffe had the first time you find it. "No way the Maker would send an elf as his herald."

I think more people would have held to the blasphemer mentality rather than followed you. Just my opinion.

I was very happy that I chose a Dalish female Solas romance for my first play through. And the Andrastian content and my Chantry rejecting elf fit nicely with the theme of how stories and histories change depending on who tells them.

While Elves does add a unique flavour to the story(especially if you romanced/are friends with Solas), humans once again seem more relevant to the plot thanks to the whole Herald of Andraste/chantry deal. Makes since though since humans where originally the only race planned, even the human Inquisitor attendance at the conclave is more relevant. Whereas everyone else was a spy or bodygaurd. Quarai and Dwarves(especially) seem tacked on.

Inquisition was written as a human story, the game got pushed back a year to add races.

I played an Elf female this time and was nicely surprised. It did seem to fit rather well :)
My origins character was a human female. Obviously Hawke as well - although I haven't played all of DA:2 yet.

It is apparently too much to ask for a slightly fit and muscular build like in DAO.

Elf and human definitely seem the most well integrated into the plot, whereas dwarf and qunari feel a bit tacked on.

Played as a dwarf first (romanced Josie) and as an elf (romanced Solas) on my second playthrough - both of them female.

The difference in how I perceived the ending is incredible, considering there is little "real" difference. My dwarf got a perfeclty happy ending, while the exact same events feel like a really sad outcome for my elf.
I am not sure if this means one is more suited than the other.

I would still like to play as a human at some point, because being the "Herald of Andraste" makes so much more sense if you are Andrastian.
Dalish and dwarves don't really care much of the circle, chantry, Maker, etc... so it felt a little like  you are compeltely alien to what's going on and end up being the Herald in a bit of a random way, even considering the ending.

I think the human works very well, especially because of Solas and the Well of Sorrow. I like that as a human you don't get to see the whole picture and you can have a clear personal investment in the templar/mages conflict.

I believe so.

-  Elven Inquisitors get a more personal touch in dialogue regarding religious, cultural and historical tensions when talking about Chantry/Dalish/Andraste subjects.

Makes old historical events seem personal.

-  The story and Thedas history gets even more personal for Dalish Elves Post-Haven, since the entire plot becomes more about stomping around elven ruins, Eluvians and Ancient Elven secrets.

-  By the end as a Dalish Elf you figure out 90% of what you thought you were preserving is wrong.

-  If you play as a female Dalish elf you can fall in love with an ancient elven god and vice versa, who's probably the main antagonist (with a good cause most likely) in an upcoming DLC or DA4.

-  If you play mage Dalish elf you get all that special mage dialogue in anything Mage/Templar related or whenever something uniquely magical is happening.

Simply put Dalish Inquisitors can feel personally connected to 90% of DA:I's plot compared to other races, giving them a bigger sense of agency throughout.  They also seem to get more lines that explore the Inquisitor's character and have better emotional range.

Human only for me. Elves look like toothpicks with ears. I think both work with the plot.

Eh Humans work just as well with the plot.

It's only near endgame that all the ancient elven lore gets dumped on the player. Until then it's mostly human issues.

When I played Dalish the first time I felt more invested in the later game where all the elfy plot themes came up. My elf was a follower of the old ways. Basically a heathen to the Chantry, who denied being the Herald.
But on my second playthrough I'm going human noble who is from a religious family. I feel more connected to the start of the story where the Chantry is more prominent. I finish prayers, I embrace being chosen, I told everyone not to lose faith. That felt out of character for my elf but felt right for my human.

I think the Human Mage can give the elves a run for their money in terms of plot connectivity, but yes, the elves have great plot relevance this time around.

I think so. Female elf mage romancing Solas feels like the most involved way to go, imho.

Not really. You have to do quite a bit of headcanon to even fit an Elf Inquisitor into the story. Same for the other non human races.

By picking up the history perks my human mage was able to have almost the same convos about Elvish history and naturally all the convos about magic due to being  a mage. I also perfer Solas/Human IQ dynamic both as rivals and friends. Solas is obviously racist toward humans which can cause some tension between him and the human IQ. I punched him in the face and we still managed to reach a mutual respect for each other.

I can only say to this that I started with playing as a human male rogue, but didn't finish the game completely with it. Instead I started my female elf warrior round...  Made more sence to me with the whole Mythal Temple and all other elven related things. As you said, my human didn't really care for the elven Gods since he was an Andrastian. My elf warrior on the other hand is a proud Dalish how devoutes the old Gods (and she get's her whole world torn apart)

So yes, I do think an elf Inqisitor fits the story a bit better. It also have all the benefits that Balek brought up.

I can see the game is elf heavy, but I personally don't find them interesting. Plus elves are freakishly twinky to me. I can't stand the way they look. On the other end of the spectrum is male Qunari (I can't take the no neck look seriously). Human noble does fit the political/religious intrigue of the story, but playing a human noble is ridiculously boring, imo. I'd rather a commoner. I imagine lots of awkward jokes and forcibly lulzy moments playing a dwarf that would make the story seem less serious.

No group interests me more than a female Vashoth. She's a total outsider. Not to mention fun to look at. I'm sure I'm missing a lot, but oh well.

For me, yes. My favourite way of playing it is an elf, very anti-chantry (you're given plenty of opportunities for that and also for denying beign the herald of andraste), plus it gives you the chance to get one of the romances most closely tied to the plot with a female inquisitor (only Cassandra would be on par, IMO), plus all the elven lore.

That said, I think from time to time it shows that it's not how it was supposed to be. You get a strong feeling with some dialogue options (and even more with the lack of others) that the intended protagonist was a human, not an elf.

Also: I don't think they look anorexic. There's plenty of people in real life that it's just naturally skinny. And, if I have to choose between the skinny elf male inquisitor and the super-bulky human male inquisitor, I'd pick the elf every time
