Actually, what is the book and what Varric told Cassadra were 2 different things. The Hof actions being kept Accurate is up to debate, does any of the lore take about the warden butchering dalish elves or betraying and backstabbing a king to power?

History still warps their tales.

Like the HoA.

How can it be over done if this is how people truly act?

The Warden saved the world and is a veteran of the Fifth Blight. No matter how despicable a monster he or she may have personally have been, nothing about that statement is untrue. The Warden saved more lives than ended them and thus can be considered a Hero. True.

Hawke was declared the Champion of Kirkwall because he/she rescued the city from a Qunari attack. Undeniably true..

It's overdone because the idea of Andraste rescuing the Inquisitor sending him or her forth to save the world is completely and utterly untrue. It's overdone because every other Andrastian acts as if you really are this HoA and they do not hesitate to call you such. It is an unearned and undeserved title that lacks even a kernel of honesty.

Umm, the Chantry called such a claim blasphemy and anyone who supported such a statement heretics.

In the end, what does it matter? The Inquisitor or Herald or whatever still saves the day.

Doesn't stop the Andrastians from belting out that title and practically worshiping the ground that my toons walk on. As Justinia's hands are quick to point out.

1. The same can be said for the HoA. And like the champion and the HoF what ever act they do will be warped by on lookers putting in history they are comfortable with. It all the same no matter how you cut it.

2.That does not make it over done. That just show how people are. They will believe what ever they want to believe. If it's true,  then it can never be over done.

You mean the Herald of Andraste herself and by proxy the Chantry and Andrastianism saved the day. At least as they will tell it; they do not mind rewriting and excluding things. Just ask Shartan.

It matters because it is not the truth (Andraste) and Dragon Age is full of people that have been destroyed by lies and misunderstandings, not unlike the Dalish.

Dorian does also state that the Chantry in Tevinter is facile in comparison to the Chantry in Orlais and Ferelden. The issue there being Andraste herself.

As for the Templars not supporting the Chantry you are 100% correct which is why I said the Faith vs Freedom thing is dropped after the first act. There are still hints of it throughout but it is left undeveloped.

Yes, but it does show that Tevinter believes in things the southern Chantry does not:  That Andraste was a mage.  That the magisters had nothing to do with the darkspawn taint.  And of course,   they defeated the Elvhenan all those ages ago.

I'm not really sure how it works with Faith vs Freedom so much as "what do you believe"  Or perhaps "what is worth fighting for?"  These Templars believed in their cause enough to break away from the Chantry.

The circles started out as a compromise to allow mages to practice their arts in safety without getting murdered by mobs which was as issue from what I understand.

Even before the creation of the chantry people blamed mages in general for the darkspawn in the centuries after the first blight and not to mention the depravities that tevinter had inflicted on the people of Thadas. From what I gather mages were being hunted down and killed while undoubtedly Abominations were being created out of fear and desperation from mages being hunted down. The circles allowed for mages to have some place safe from such mobs and to be taught their gifts in safety without the fear that a mob would hunt them down to kill them for practicing magic.

Meanwhile the Templars were created out of the old inquisition as both a means of protecting the mages from anti-magic mobs and to stand guard if something was to go wrong to keep everyone else safe while the seekers were to keep the Templars from becoming corrupt and to deal with blood mages.

This is where the conflict of the circles and the Templars lies right at the beginning, where do you draw the line between insuring the safety and freedom of the mages to practice and learn their arts while insuring that they are safe from those who would do them harm and protecting everyone else.

As for the fortresses circles originally apparently they were created for the safety of everyone involved being defendable from both outside attacks and threats from within if something went wrong... It was also apparently to keep the various grand clerics and reverend mothers from looking over the shoulders of the mages and constantly telling them what they could and couldn't do.

But Andraste was a mage and the magisters had nothing to do with darkspawn taint except for releasing an already sealed up problem.

True, the only real issue with mages is about blood magic and even a circle can't stop that. They just need ways to counter their use which we already have. This issue with abominations is bs being that it's just battle of will anyway and their way to ward them off anyway.
