... making ethnically diverse characters possible in the character creator.

A lot of times game companies omit actual Asian looking eyes -- you can sometimes kinda fudge something to look like maybe they had a single Asian parent or something, but this was a pleasant surprise. I always do multiple playthroughs and while the actual in-game races definitely offer a nice range, being able to take it a step beyond just "what colour of white girl do I want to play" is fun. (Nothing against white girls, I am one, but. :P )

I'm sure there'll be some people out there who are like, "There aren't Asians in Thedas!" and all I can say is ... well there's a very Asian looking elf in MY Thedas now, lol. See lots of negative feedback in here and thought this was worthy of some positive.

Well, of course there are no Asians in Thedas. There are only Thedosians and Qunari.

Some of those Thedosians now look like Asians, though. And good for them.

(to Captain Wiseass) Wait, so qunari are from space? Damn it, Sten, you could have called in a spaceship and spared us the walk?!

Joking aside, I'm pretty sure the qunari count as Thedosians as well. Thedas is, as far I know, just the name of the world and they do count as part of it's population.

Also, OP? That is a masterfully-made character, amazing job! *applauds*

Interesting. I don't think I can pull off the Asian appearance above as well on a male.

I always thought it was the name of the continent, but I guess they haven't really said.

Fun fact, there's an asian background character in The Hobbit part 3.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Sort of a geisha/kabuki mix inspiration. Now let's ignore the fact that I had a good laugh at myself after I was done with her, realizing I was subconsciously perpetuating Asian stereotypes by making her a sneaky-stabby type. =/ lol

Interesting. I don't think I can pull off the Asian appearance above as well on a male.

Hmm, I admit I haven't played much with the male CC. If not, that's a shame.

yea, as far as fereldan and orlais humans go, it's pretty much black and white. I think introducing some asian based region  might be interesting, because when you think about it, tevinter for example (at least for me) resembles a lot of the middle-east, orlais is clearly french inspired, it they were to add new regions, or travelers from beyond thedas, i think something asian might be cool.

They could just put in asian as regular fereldans or something in the game, but it would look a bit off, like, why haven't i seen one the past 3 games?

I think there is potential to put new regions in the game, i've read more lore of thedas, so not really sure what happens outside, but there are folks outside, i mean, humans came from some other place as far as i can remember, quns as well (there is even another like something Qun related race outside of thedas, i don't know, Bull didn't know much about them)

They're in there. A bunch of inquisition troops, at least.

Though I really don't think they need to "justify" portraying the full spectrum of humanity in their game that features humans. They should just do it. And they finally did this time, which is badass.

Awesome character creator work there, she looks really good!

It is fun to be able to make more ethnically diverse characters -- I have a habit of making my Dalish Elves dark-skinned all the time, actually. For no real reason other than "I kinda want to."

I liked making darker skinned Hawkes in DA2, partly because it was interesting to see the whole family change. :)

That could go wrong if you used a certain skintone mod -- really natural skintones, they looked great, but you often looked adopted xD I just make a lot of brown characters because my dad was the whitest man on the planet (thanks, Mom) and I like to vicariously be brown. :P lol

Yeah, I definitely enjoyed doing that too! I loved how the family was keyed to Hawke.

It is the continent. But since it means THE Dragon Age Setting it pretty much encompasses everything :-).

I posted pics on my Tumblr and had someone ask for sliders. Since I did them, and since I got some nice comments here, figured I'd drop the link on the off chance someone was interested in using/tweaking her.

I had to redo her eyes slightly as I was getting bad eyelash clipping before, but otherwise she's the same.

I agree wholeheartedly! It was annoying in DA:O and DA2 to as you mentioned choose the color of white person you play. Isabella was supposed to be black but had the exact same face as Bethany, Cassandra, Lady Elegant, and every other generic-faced white lady in DA2. I'm glad for the variety now, and the depth of the CC (except the hair and eyebrows, ew)

I can even live with the brows, though I wouldn't say no to some variety. Those hairs, though ... :( A modder has prepped some gorgeous models for when the tools allow importing meshes, but the tools aren't quite there yet. I'm holding off on a Qunari playthrough till then. She (? I dunno, female screenname) has done some completely awesome horns + hair combos and I just can't settle for the originals knowing they're out there.

Isabella was supposed to be black? That's news to me. Was that in one of the comics?

As for asian eyes they did do a better job but it could be sooo much better. Hopefully they'll offer better choices in the future.

Isabella was supposed to be Spanish, as in from Spain, as far as I could tell.

David Gaider said she was black.
