OK, so I start a topic to see which combination of Inquisition characters is the most common or most interesting. I wonder if there are people playing with 4-mage teams. Or people with 1 warrior and 3 rogues - unlikely to me but we will see... |
Just tell who your most common allies are and why. I mean I walk around the map usually with:
Inquisitor >>> 2-h warrior reaver
Casandra>>> Shield warrior with Templar spec

Solas>>>Barrier mage with all the skill tree in there + his spec /rift mage/ + ice blast

Vivienne >>> Lightning and Ice mage

I just discovered after the first 3 h of the game I do not need rogues [we need them when locked doors are around ofc]

I also would like to try the combo

Inquisitor warrior + Cole + Dorian + Bull.

:) what do you think? :)

Depends on my main. Saying that, there are two people I tend to have in my party more than most.

Iron Bull specced for Sword & Shield, and Dorian as your standard Mage. Why? Because both characters have awkward specializations. Necromancer is the weakest of the mage specialities, and Reaver is basically a glorified way of telling the computer to kill itself.

This allows me to allocate points elsewhere, to the benefit of the party as a whole. Dorian can completely fill out the Spirit tree and make use of every element effectively, while bull can invest deeply into the Battlemaster line and buff his team mates.

Blackwall, Varric and Dorian work well. Team Hairy Distraction.

Run with that party for a couple of hours and you'll grow a beard in real life.

Regardless of sex.

Inquisitor > Knight-Enchanter
Cassandra > dispelling, tanking, buffs and shouting
Varric > ranged, buffs, stories, autographs, and the chest hair quota
Solas > support, cc, sound logical reasoning and Vulcan nerve pinches

For my Daul-Bladed Potion-Smashing Rogue:

Cassandra: SnS utility, templar stuff

Blackwall: Mother of all tanks

Vivienne: Knight-Enchanter so op bungie plz nerf

For my Pre-Rift Wintery-Spirit Thing Mage:

Cassandra: Tanky vantemplarguard

Iron Bull: Damage and also he has decent party chat w/ Cassandra and "cool" abilities

Solas: Rift Mage and Chain Lightning, barrier stuff

I pretty much always have two warriors and a mage at hand. I only bring rogues for locks that I've found. Varric is usually my choice, because Sera likes to waste potions (because she thinks it's a great idea to get close WITH A BOW), and Cole is just... Cole.

as my DW artificer

Sera - machine gun tempest

Cole - assassin archer

Varric / Black wall

CRITS FOR DAYS

4 archers full drawing the entire mob and 20 second sleep?

Cass - tank and dispel

Cole - not for effectiveness, my character was a DW rouge as well, just because his comments tend to provide more background information on places and things you find. Had a bit of a problem with his survivability unless I micro managed him untillI got him some guard on hit and then he was fine.

Solas - same as above and so he would tell me when I was I near an elven artifact since they aren't marked on the map.

Even on nightmare I never felt like I really needed to pick an optimal set up. I had Cass tanking, Solas with CC and AOE and me and Cole bursting priority targets. DW rouge feels a bit OP to be honest, by the mid way point I was getting lazy and just killing everything myself before my party even arrived but I suspect the same can be done for any class. I ended swapping them around a lot for banter since everything works.

Oo, he plays with 4 archers !! I meant Biotic Flash Kick! But is it not weak against dragons and other bosses? Immune to sleep, stun, knockdown etc...?

Ran this party, pretty much breezed through the game:

Inquisitor: KE / Mage

Blackwall: Tank Champ

Dorian: Extra Support + Ice Mage

Cole: Poison/Assasin

Blackwell and me never died, which was fun I suppose.

Personally, I think the party members are largely interchangeable, because you can respec them for normal class abilities, and the AI generally doesn't make great use of specialization abilities anyway. Pick your party for banter. My recommendations along that line are Blackwall, Sera, and Dorian. A nice combo of hilarity and conflict.

I meant - what if you use originals, if you do not respec. Is there someone who tried 4 warriors ?

With me as a KE

Sera (for putting arrows in things that need arrows in them)

Dorian/Solas for barriers and excellent conversation

Blackwall

With Me as a Sword and Board - templar

Varric

Sera

Vivienne

With me currently as a Rogue- tempest

Sera (we're making sex)

Dorian

Iron Bull

I swap out characters as necessary for their specific missions.  This time I have solas specc'd as a lightning mage which is overall most useful but I won't be using him vs the crestwood dragon or any of the lightning dragons.

I usually run as:

Inquisitor: 2h Champion

Cassandra: SnB Templar (off tank set to mage protection)

Blackwall: SnB Champion (main tank)

Solas: Barrier/Lightning

If I need a lock picked I usually use Varric.

Sometimes I swap Blackwall / Solas with other characters depending on the missions.

I've switched my party, now that I've changed to Rift Mage/Storm and Barrier.

Cassandra: Even more Tanky Vantemplarguard than before, she never seems to die unless it's a Dragon or something. Always has decent guard, attracts enemies and is great for pulling the bad guys together for Storm ablities.

Varric: Fun abilities, picks locks, is quiet, and stays out of trouble. Elemental mines + Leaping Shot or Spike Trap + Explosive Shot are great little combos.

Vivienne: Again, knight enchanter so op bungie plz nerf, Vivienne can heal, cast never-ending barriers, primes Fire Mines for Pull of the Abyss and is generally a great addition to the party.

Cassandra, Varric and Solas as these 3 bring the best team synergy , have passives that buff the entire team and Solar never runs out of mana. Finally they also cover the 3 races and the respective view points properly.

Cool answer. But I guess Varric is not a typical dwarf - he seems a cosmopolitan surface dwarf with his mind open to new ideas /and new jokes/, I m sorry there was not a classic warrior from the old dwarven families, someone like the old king Aeducan.

Early in the game, I'm using:

-Cass (Tank)

-Iron Bull (DPS) or Varric (Ranged DPS) - depends on opponents

-Me (DW Rogue)

-Solas

Once I get specializations I'll probably swap out Cass for a Champion Blackwall.

My most frequently used team tends to be:

Inquistor (RIft Mage with Inferno, Storm, Spirit  and a cold staff for Energy Barrage to cover all elements.)

Cassandra (Spell Purge is great for lessening rift secondary spawns and Cassandra makes for a great tank.)

Cole (I like melee rogues though Varric is a close second. Cole can dish out tremendous damage if built and geared to keep him alive. Heal on hit, Hidden Blades or Shield Bash on hit and 5 guard on hit make him pretty beastly.)

Dorian (Iron Bull is a close second choice here but I like having another mage to handle most of the Barrier casting so I can pew pew. My Dorian focuses on his Necromancer skills with some Inferno, Storm and Spirit mixed in. Dorian also has Dispel so coupled with Cassandra they can cut down on secondary rift spawns tremendously.)

By late game I get the urge to trick everyone out with crafted gear. Pretty much everyone's main weapon gets 1% heal on hit. Dagger wielding rogues get hidden blades or shield bash on the second weapon while shield users get 10% horn of valor for 12 seconds) or shield bash. And finally, everyone gets 5 guard on hit on their armor. Everyone elses up OP in the end but hey its fun building towards that :)

I have a half dozen plus characters now, and I always end up with Viv and Cass, with the 3rd tending to be Sera or Cole. It can't be helped :P My favorite group by far however, is my Fire focused mage, Iron Bull all beefy 2-handed with light tankness, Dorian going icy and barrier like, and Sera with daggers focused in Subterfuge. My current group on my S&B qunari is Blackwall 2-handed side tank, Solas kind of doing a little of everything, and Sera with sabotage and daggers. Blackwall was almost replaced with Cass a dozen times before I forced myself to keep him in, and I still think about switching out Solas for Viv. But I'm going to try something new dammit!

I always wind up with Cass as my tank.
Varric as Archer
Dorian as mage

That is the A team the other constants are that Sera and Viv need to start paying rent at Skyhold because they stay there so much.

Cassandra » Vanguard SnS Templar - Cole » Archery Assassin Subterfuge - Dorian » Necromancer Lightning - Myself » Rift Mage Inferno Winter

Currently doing a wacky giggles playthrough with four tanks. Myself, Cassandra, Blackwall and Iron Bull. Turned out quite entertaining. Walking unstoppable force yet to meet the immovable object.

My PC is dual dagger rogue, so I find myself using Blackwall/Dorian/Varric or Blackwall/Dorian/Vivienne most of the time. I do like to mix it all up sometimes, though for dialog purposes.
