so....what exactly was the modus pensandi behind gating schematics behind RNG?

I am curious. We know people have complained about it and we did recently get answers on similar matters from another company that received criticism about it ( and at least an attempt to rectify).
Anyone else curious?

Modus Pensandi?
Yeah, shouldn't that be Modus Operandi? ![]()

No
Modus operandi means "way of OPERATING" modus pensandi means "way of THINKING"....loosely translated of course.

I imagine it was something along the lines of, "Hey, let's gate the schematics behind the RNG."

I think it was more like, "Hey, we don't have time to finish the game properly, let alone itemize drops/vendors."

Maybe. But I thought going the more literal route would make for a funnier reply.

there was no thinking involved
it was just a way to draw out a short story 12-15 hours
with item hunting and material hunting
seriously for an rpg if you main story line is only twice as long as a call of duty campaign you are in trouble

I don't know, I don't think Dorian would be as condescending about a phrase that's admittedly Dog-latin...
But to answer the question itself, yeah, the schematic drops are ridiculously random and frustrating? Finding good schematics is a pain in the neck and almost seems as if they end up being generated for any class not your own. My Mages only ever seem to get stuff for warriors, my warriors get stuff for rogues, my rogues are left with tons of mage gear...
I'd tweet the devs and ask how it works?

Because being dependent on RNG means you can do everything "right" and still lose.

Also, it is not dog Latin, it is a proper locution.

How does thar reflect on not being able to straight up BUY the schematics we want?

Inquisition has a major problem when it comes to overlevelled for the main plot missions and/or areas, since the obvious need for gamers to do and explore everything tends to mean you're often several levels above what's necessary and then end up being stuck with loot drops and schematics that have long since become obsolete. I wish that they'd made the scaling more balanced.
And on a similar note, I kinda wish that they'd implimented something similar to DA2, where you had some items that were levelled when you got them.
Also, it is not dog Latin, it is a proper locution.
Still, wouldn't modus cogitiandi have been more accurate?
(And we're arguing latin, this is rapidly becoming far too nerdy, eh?) ![]()

Comparing DA:I with Diablo makes no sense, since both games have different approach to gear and its importance.
In Diablo, getting gear is the whole point of playing.
In DA:I, gear (and schematics) are a means to an end; to help you advance through the story. Locking that gear behind an rng serves no real purpose. It prevents people from getting what they want and, thus, actually harms the crafting system.
Also, unlike Diablo where dungeons repopulate and you grind gear by killing monsters, DA:I's version of grinding consists of opening chests and reloading.
As far as I'm concerned, any game that forces the player to use a third party software in order to cheat and get the schematics he needs (since it's frustrating to get them otherwise), has serious issues with loot distribution.
