I could best describe it as a fairy tale romance. It has its tender loving moments and then it has its sad moments and then a little mix of both, but altogether it's good if you like that sort of stuff.
It's a decent romance, not my favorite though. My fancy is forever stuck by Dorian *cough cough*. Anyway, if you're the type of person looking for a character that'll love your Inquisitor to no end and is awkwardly romantic, then Cullen is your man. A little advice though, be very careful when talking to him about Lyrium and don't tell him to use it, the relationship can end.

I watched it on youtube and it looks pretty nice, however there is a lack of content due to him not being in your party.

Cullen is my man.
And Alistair.
And Zevran.
There is no heartbreak with the Cullen romance unless you create it yourself. And you don't have to make him sleep with someone else to save your lives. It's just a plain old good romance...nothing fancy, nothing dramatic. I'm glad they included it in the game.

No Iron Bull for me even though he seems like a "nice" guy, sort of. ![]()

I've romanced Blackwall, Iron Bull (halfway) and Cullen and the commander was my favorite. I would recommend for maximum content with Cullen to side with the Mages, so you can get his personal quest which ties in directly to the main plot. And it's over 4k pages long now but there is a whole Cullen appreciation thread on this forum (pretty spoiler ridden though).

I mean not hating, it's not my favorite but I enjoyed it, especially for my Lav, because there was so much drama in her life already some tooth decay was exactly what she needed.
But yes. Cavities.

Definitely very sweet. It makes an excellent chaser for a Solasmance, especially if Solas made you angry rather than sad.
And I wouldn't worry about content due to his not being a companion- he still has quite a bit.

Yep, I'm going to have to echo what everyone else has been saying, it is very sweet. It has a lot of cute moments, it's pretty solid and steady too.
Just don't think too hard about what may happen in the future with that whole lyrium thing.

Do it with a mage IQ (preferably Trevelyan, so that you can save Lavellan for a Solas romance) It makes for a more special story IMO, because of his history with magic. I prefer a IQ that allies with the mages. Siding with the mages gets you the mission where you actually venture out and fight with him.
Allying with them, you get to see Cullen express disapproval with you. I like it when there is just a little contention between you and your love interest, but not too much for it to be all out rivalry.
My friend, who romanced Josie and has watched all of the romance vids, agrees that it's one of the strongest, most heartfelt romances in the game. He has alot of romance cutscenes, and ones that are just the two of you getting to know each other, actually doing things together that don't have to do with the Inquisition or some nefarious angsty conflict. This is something that some of the other romances lack. And then there's the lyrium thing...the steamy sex scene, combined with all of the fluffy moments...the romance has alot of different sides to it, which makes it particularly interesting and rewarding.

Doing this with a female mage warden import adds even more relation ![]()

My favorite.
Nearly 5,000 pages of so worth it.
It's a good idea to follow the advice given about class, though. Mages get the most lines, and then Warriors with just a little more than Rogues.
...Rogues get the least. ![]()

I've done Iron Bull, Cullen, and Blackwall. I really like the first two very much for different reasons. If you like fairy tale romances, Cullen is great. If you like a more down-to-earth romance and don't mind and/or like kink, Iron Bull is great. I have trouble with Blackwall's romance -- I was sorry I chose that one my first playthrough.

Also, becoming a warrior/Templar gives you some interesting extra dialogues. Not as many as being a mage though, probably.

If you need further help deciding if you should do the romance or just want advice while you're going through it, I recommend checking out the Cullen discussion thread. Everyone is very nice, and will be more than willing to share their opinions on the matter. ![]()

I think Cullen's romance is more subtle on drama, but it is still there lurking underneath it all. It's bittersweet, I guess?
In comparison Blackwall's and Solas's romance is a full head drama and angst, don't know about IB's aside from the fact that it is kinky and can end in drama of sort if he follows the Qun.

Does warrior gets more lines only in case of Templar specialization or there is generally more?

Well, this is entirely hearsay. I haven't played through as a warrior while flirting with him, but apparently the first scene where you have a chance to flirt with him at Haven, there's either an extra flirt for warriors, or extra dialogue.
Beyond that, yes, I think considering the Templar specialization and/or taking it granting you additional dialogue is the only other extra for warriors.
If anyone can verify this (or correct it), it will be appreciated. ![]()

Not sure about this. I'm pretty sure there is extra dialogue you get as a Mage. Probably even more if you go human since your back story is being in a circle.
I'd also like to disagree with what someone above me said. Cullen doesn't have less romance content because he's an advisor. In fact I did his romance first and was shocked at how little content I felt Dorian's romance had compared to Cullen's. And contrary to what everyone says about their disappointment at a lack of banter from companions- I found that around skyhold there was far more banter about the Cullen romance than there was in the field with Dorian's romance. I was pretty disappointed actually- it felt like it was hardly mentioned at all.
If you want the most you can get out of his romance (which personally I think is the best in the game- not into the whole gloom and doom tragedy romances though) then I say go Mage and side with the mages. You'll have plenty of content that way.

The Templar convo extra is the only thing I can recall from romancing him as a warrior, but I may be forgetting about something at Haven.

I haven't seen any posts that express this, but I do think that it is a compelling feature of fictional characters for a lot of people, especially women. I think it's one reason why so many female players in particular were drawn to Anders and Fenris. These men are damaged, and so too is Cullen. He has been mentally, emotionally, and physically scarred by the events of the past 10 years. Now, that's not to say that his issues form the basis of the romance (as with Fenris), they do not, but it IS a component.
If that is something you find compelling, I'd say give Cullen a try.
