I was expecting more garish and impractical footwear...after what Leliana said in DA:O.
I liked how they stood out, I wanted to see more of Ferelden fashion too, but there are only couple outfits and they are easy to miss, perhaps because we don't see much of Ferelden's city folks, just villagers
What bothered me about the masks was that the eye holes never actually matched up with.. the.. eyes.
In my game. anyway.
It's retina-scorchingly ugly. Orlesian style is like an even gaudier and more disgusting French baroque.
In all seriousness though, it does suit the 'higher class/elite' and the detail on the npcs clothing/armour is probably the best I have ever seen in a game. I spend way too much time looking at it. ![]()

First thoughts: "What a bunch of pompous idiots!"
After Orlesian Ball: "Why can't I have a pretty dress?!"
I thought the designs really fit the culture, but it got a little tiring seeing the same dress on every female.
It's alright imo.
The Vints got them beat though.
The male mask.... oh man, it's so hideous. Why can't I have the Gaspard version at least? Without those silly head-warp that reminded me of mickey mouse.........
And then the female ones, with the ultra big hair bun. I loved the design variation of the mask EXCEPT the big hair bun. I literally laughed when I first saw Briala with the big hair-bun, add to that her actual hair bun sticking out of the fake hair bun....
Reminds me of my country's traditional hair-bun... sanggul.

I don't know why but every time I saw an Orlesian noble, I felt this rage building up inside me for some reason.
Or I just got sidetracked and should just say the orleasians are so far the best part of Dragon age inq as you wont see anything else interesting or cool....
I have a love hate relationship with this game series I feel it can do so more than it tries to do....it just feel like a lame Lord of the rings and game of thrones......They keep mentioning all those great things that happend and is happening....and you never see them or they died long ago.
the grey wardens...They had girffins they rode on...but of c they died out.....The Orleasians is known for their cavelry fighting...and they say we of the inq could learn a thing or two from them....so WHERE ARE THEY!
But as I am getting sidetracked I should say my point.....If they had Oreasians in the dragon age origins. like 2 fereldan cities and two oreasians cities it would have been beter......And so far the most interesting part in inq is saving the emperor cause it gives insight on how they work it was the same with the dwarfen part of Origins hands down the best part to see how dwarfs worked....and so far in inq you got an outcast Dwarf.....that is more human than dwarf for you only dwarfen companion...and no dwarfen cities.
I want more variation on the game so far they mention great stuff but really dont wanna show any of it.

Those are NOT attractive PJs. ![]()
I loved some of the mask designs for women (unfortunately not the one we get to wear in-game - and its variations). I thought the green full-face mask (like the one from Josephine's quest) and the lace-over-the-eyes masks (similar to what Celene's handmaids are wearing) are really beautiful... and I would have loved for my assassin to be able to wear them full-time.
The men's masks though... ugh... always creeped me out. I'd have loved to pass one of the +Cunning masks to Cole but that boy does not need an extra creepiness factor. Whispering people's thoughts out loud is freaky enough without looking like a mad clown... sometimes a blood-drenched mad clown. (Poor Cole... love you too much to do that to you... and love my sanity as well
)
Some of it's all right. I liked the whole moth theme of Florianne's gown (although not the big stand-up collar), and some of the less floofy ones were ok. I can't be doing with ruffs, though. They are just always stupid-looking, to me. I can't imagine walking around with a giant flattened lampshade around my neck all day. And seeing some of the women with ruffs on top of their heads was just...odd, although that is probably more down to me just being accustomed to them always being neckwear instead.
Some of the less over-the-top furnishings are nice though, the stuff that isn't so gilded and rococo it looks like it fell off a truck at Versailles.
UGHHHHHHH, why Bioware, why do you make all that cool concept art and then don't use it in the actual game??
Welcome to gaming in general, I think. Some concept art is always great but hard to replicate by 3D modellers. Although more so in the past, now I see no reason to get the designs above in game. Some of Sera's concepts were far better than the final version, I feel.
I liked the Venetian masks/Baroque era streak of Orlais. The accents were grating though.
What really bothered me was the awful Inquisiton uniform you show up in Halamshiral - felt completely out of place and as i mentioned before, made my Inquisitor look like some banana republic dictator. A mask and dress would have been awesome.

I dig the "banana republic dictator" look, but having literally every member wear the same copy-pasted outfit was very disappointing (especially with Vivienne). As the leader, I would have wanted more flair, because why not?
I didn't have a problem with the masks so much as the idea they wear them ALL THE TIME! At a masquerade ball? Sure. Every. Single. Day? No. That just made me want to punch them for being so ridiculous. Maybe that was a the point.
