Aight so I took a break from playing bass about 2 years ago. When I quit I was playing off and on anyway. My calluses eventually deteriorated.  Anyway I've starting jamming again by myself and with a couple of friends. And my fingers are killing me. I never really had any problems keeping them when I played regularly but I want to speed up their forming, cause my left hand is on fire all day. I heard about a rubbing alcohol trick, but do any of my fellow BSNers have any tips?

Lots and lots and lots of practice. No short cuts...just hard work. I know some people will put a thin layer of crazy glue on their fingers but  hear that can make it hard to feel your place.

I can't do the crazy glue method. I press down too hard ( which may be a factor as well) and it flakes off lol. I'm not looking for a short cut per say I'm looking for a method to help build those puppies up in addition too.

I did a trick when I played bass much more frequently that basically involved taping my thumb along each finger in alternating order (pointer, middle, ring, pinky; then middle, ring, pinky, pointer; etc.) over and over again all through the day when I Wasn't playing/practicing. It helped to develop coordination and the repeated tapping does help desensitize your fingertips if you do it all day in your spare time. I still do it as an absent habit and my fingers don't scream out in pain if I pick up a bass and play for a few hours every now and then.

Hope that helps!

You need to suffer to be beautiful . It not a race bro. If it's hurt too much just wait until you can play again. It will eventually not hurt

Do some deadlifts with no gloves or chalk. You'll  pretty much instantly callus.
