This thread is still going? Sweet.

Anyway... in regards to Imshael... how is he a desire demon, exactly?

There's nothing desirable about him. Well... save for the fact he offers you virgins. ;)

As sad is it is, I actually enjoy the romances of this game, as well as the sex appeal of desire demons and prostitutes. And no, I'm not one of those 40 year old virgins that sits at home all day, playing games and taking turns from "beating off" or "flicking the bean" to BioWare romances and fanfictions. Such activities are quite sad and pathetic... I agree with this notion.

Now, the thing that I love about BW games is the idea of creating your own character and giving them a story and personality. This is why I find myself addicted to titles such as DA and ME... and while I enjoy action RPGs, action-adventures and sandboxes I will always love the opportunities that BW can give me in a game.

Having said that, in a setting where you play a "hero" it is only right that this "hero" gets a chance at finding love or... at the very least, getting laid.

As for desire demons and brothels, it's more or less for entertainment value and the idea of having them in fantasy worlds. While they might not give you much in terms of gameplay and interaction, it's more or less a novelty.

I don't see the logic in including desire demons, a demon that has featured consistently throughout the past two games... and suddenly scrap them for any reason whether it be to appease the politically correct, which is kinda silly anyway considering you can judge a box and see Cass and Sera's boobs/Dorian's arse... (or change the appearance of desire demons into something like Imshael... who, when fought, transforms into an ogre looking thing).

There was once a time where women were respected as sex workers.Hell they have a legit brothel in outskirts of Vegas.Slavary & trafficking is bad but some women got it in their head that sex equals bad & labeled themselves feminists.Amelia Earheart was not a feminist & didn't fly across the Atlantic to "liberate" women but to prove she could do even though she was female.

You know, I didn't notice the lack of desire demons till I read this thread and now that I think about it, it is really strange. They have all kinds demons in this game so where is the second most powerful type after pride demons? I'm a girl gamer and desire demons never "offended" me in any way (God forbid someone gets offended). Succubi have been a part of fantasy literature and mythology for ages, and it's not like it's restricted to women; male vampires have the whole dark seduction thing going on. It just seems weird they were removed.

This, I really didn't notice, but now it's been pointed out, it bothers me greatly

Disposable sex NPCs aren't particularly edgy. They're super common in the genre. Sure they may have funny cut-scenes, but nothing about the brothels in the previous dragon age games was at all challenging or complex as far as I remember (aside from possibly the multi-gender options). I might enjoy their inclusion, but I don't pretend it's part of some crusade for realism. It's edgy in the same way a teenager shouting "PENIS" is edgy.

Besides, where would there have been a brothel? Skyhold is the base of a religious organization and Val is basically the Vatican. Besides, it's not like the game avoids sex.

I guess it's surprising that Desire Demons are absent, though it makes sense that they wouldn't be first through the gate at a rift. Doesn't the Templar quest include a desire demon, at least during the "see the future" part?

The complex relationship between individuality and social cohesion (Bull and the Qun), the role of religion in society, balancing autonomy and protection(Mage/Templar), these are more edgy topics than a brothel cutscene.

They were edgy as hell in DA:O!

Trade a child's soul for power, blood magic knowledge, sex, or kill it with fire!

Kill the desire demon that's enchanting a Templar, under the illusion is wife and child never truly died? Or Kill her, and steal his false happiness?

THAT is dark for me, that is cool. I find it odd that people would use the argument that it isn't dark or edgy, yet having a desire demon out of place in Emprise Du Lion just chilling is okay..

edit:

Just to make some people crazy with "BUT WHY!?" I'd even consider making a thread asking for a Desire Demon companion for game 4, one that can change his/her appearance based on your preference. They approve of power grabbing measures and completely ruthless acts for self gain. But there has to be a twist of some kind, a trope. Romance, and I mean romance, not just sex. Literally, loving your demon. I bet your just cringing reading this suggestion Papercut, or shaking your head in disappointment!

Oh, I wasn't saying that there was nothing edgy or interesting about Desire Demons in previous games. I was saying that what was interesting had very little to do with sex and nudity. If they included a brothel that had complex stories surrounding it or desire demon story-lines like that it would be cool. My point was that there's nothing particularly edgy or unique about just including a brothel and generic scantily clad NPCs for "realism" or "atmosphere".

It could be done well and I wouldn't object. I just don't really see it worth clamoring over.

I disagree, there always one of the more lively places, like first meeting isabelle in dao & gamlin scenes in da2, way more interesting than the bedroom in the keep

The problem is: 10/10 GOTY
They will now and forever be PC due to the success of the first PC Dragon age

Problem is that DAI Didn't deserve 2014 GOTY. Alien Isolation,Dark Souls II,Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor or even Divinity: Original Sin should've won it. Mostly i would've wanted amazing piece of Rpg art Divinity Original Sin to win it. Great old school Rpg adventure <3 Espesially for Single Player Rpg Goty 2014,but for example Pc Gamer "surprise, surprise" chose DAI the Rpg made for Couch Gamers a.k.a console pl. for that. DAI being chosen for 2014 Goty at awards event was a huge disgrace towards Rpg's cause of it's favorism towards couch gamers and it lacking manyyyy important Rpg features. All which are mentioned in the great thread started by Ansa http://forum.bioware...nd-suggestions/

Amazing thread which i should've scouted through before making the pre order which i regret and to have fallen into Eaware's trap. Was thinking that they can still do go Rpg adventure after jumping to Ea's arms. I'm huge fan of Baldur's Gate 2,Knights of the Old Republic,Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect Series and been happy to support with purchases. Shame to see Bioware's on EA train and EA destroyed one more company earlier last year so it's one more added to dozen + that's torn apart by them. Ah this turned no to EA bandwagon rant..ouch. Oh well, game on.

Indeed really SHAME that NO Brothel(s) in Dragon Age Inquisition and maybe so cause it's Pegi 13 and so No high school kid can't get lost to this place of relaxation and be shocked..Pegi 13 equals more cash by couch gamers i guess..Really shame that well loved Rpg trilogy's 3rd part missing this place :/

I don't think its a bad game just unfinished:
Missing desire demons
Missing brothels
Utterly pointless bedroom
Curtailed unsatisfying romances
Rushed endgame
So much power and nothing to spend it on
No keep defense
Limited female companion option

All these things add up, giving a sense that the game is incomplete, much like the feeling I got playing DA2 with its forced choices and reused environments

I was so sad because I thought once we got to Val Royeaux there'd be a brothel named like The Glistening Empress or something horrible like that.  I wanted to see all the characters reactions! D:  Dorian would be too beautiful for anyone, Solas would be disgusted, Cassandra would just disapprove every single time you walked in there, if you didn't have Bull in your party he'd probably be there chilling, and the list goes on!

So sad :(

To have whorehouses you need cities. Since Redcliff is the only town in the game, there's nowhere to put it.

Val Royeaux is one screen, so it's not a city.

Transistor was a far superior RPG to DAI for 2014. It was meaty. It was short, fully packed with all the RPG features, had an awesome combat system, had a compelling main story that was still good even though the main character did not have the customizability of DAI.

Wolfenstein The New World Order is my 2014 GOTY for the simple reason someone actually made a good single player First Person Shooter game that is not a dumbed down Modern Military Shooter with tacked on multiplayer, like the old Wolfenstein and Doom of old. Could you remember the last time a First Person Shooter had a good story ? Yeah, ages ago.

Dragon Age as a franchise has become diluted and simplified. It used to have the fantastical dark and gritty of Game of Thrones feel and now it is just a generic fantasy. Bioware sold Dragon Age's niche and soul for profits. That is the reality of becoming a full on AAA developer.

I am of the opinion that DAI got GOTY because of the power of EA's marketing and advertising. That and the fact that the RPGs that people were looking forward to like Pillars of Eternity, Torment Tides of Numenara and Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is coming out this year.

*Disgusted noise*

There's plenty of logic for it, it's just that a lot of people here don't seem to see it because their chasing their white whale ("the CP/SJW/Feminist agenda").

Every game comes to a point where they have to scrap things and more than likely an actual desire demon was one of them. Considering most demons are more of the directly attack monstrous looking type, a desire demon seems the odd one out.

EDIT: Imshael might be one, but even for him they couldn´t bother to make/finish a desire demon model.

Of course you do.

There are few stories which do not have someone romantically connecting with another as part of their story.
Including it is not weird and enjoying it is actually quite normal human behavior.

It is in the realm of possibility to separate oneself from the fictional character they are playing and for the overwhelming majority of people immersing themselves in a game/story does not preclude them from realizing it is fictional.

Your insistence to question those who disagree with your viewpoint does help your case either.

Val Royeaux is one screen, so it's not a city.

Here is someone who gets it.

They barely created places were people lived, if they could only include two very small villages and no more than a small part of one city what makes anyone think a whorehouse would be high on the priority list.

I think the choice is important, without it makes the game feel very superficial
