Her videos have been around way before 2014... BioWare knew the Brothel thing was coming in her vids, I'm sure. They got clever people working for them and having this loud critique telling the world how "women" are being mistreated in fiction probably influenced some of the choices. I could be wrong, I'm 70% sure I'm wrong, but my gut feeling tells me they got influenced by the outside medias or the so called "neighbours".

Sorry but why do you call product management of this part of DA: I intelligent? Brothels in Dragon Age always included both male and female prostitutes. And it was given a lot more attention to male prostitute in DAII. And he was awesome I'd say.

They're smart for treating both genders equally, I believe. Personally, I enjoyed the DA:I universe so far, but I feel there have been a lot of censorship in this game because of the medias.

That particular video was too late. However, not her other videos about how she perceives how women are just there to be sex objects in games.

Well, she did receive awards from game developers and a lot of positive response from many designers, so there's no denying that her views would have had an impact. But the jump to conclusion that everything from romance choices to environments can be attributed to one single critic is just ludicrous...

I already stated that I felt that sex workers and brothels were just a lazy by-default-design nowadays anyway, so they don't add anything dark, sexy or edgy. Unless a part of the story specifically involves a sex worker or a brothel, why do we need them? We might as well be crying for bakeries, even though the baker plays no part in the story and nothing actually happens in a bakery, they add about as much darkness and edgyness as a brothel imo.

1. That feminist accuses game developers in being sexist over females, putting them to brothels.

2. Bioware always had both genders in brothels over Thedas so they can't be sexist there.

3. Brothels were removed due to tolerance policy to females that couldn't be offended? (see p. 2).

I didn't say everything was because of her. I do however feel the lack of brothels is probabaly because of. if not her specificaly, then because of critics like her. I never used the brothels (ok once in Origins just to see what would happen) and don't feel like losing them is a big deal but if we're going to cut things just because we don't need them then we're going to have a very bare bones game.

If you have watched her videos you would know that she would still be offended. She would show only female workers in her videos and make no mention of the males. In the Hitman game I mentioned earlier she made a big point about killing the female strippers, who were not suppoused to be killed anyway, in a game where 99% of the people you kill are men.

Maybe it'll be more right to shoot her then?

Not that I'm proposing to. Speaking of feelings.

Bioware catering to the dumb feminists who say it's degrading.  All of bioware games from here on are made for the minority loud obnoxious feminists.

You can add a lot of fluff that doesn't really add to the story to enhance the game, and I don't mind content that is controversial or provocative...I just don't find the overused cliché of sex workers adding anything controversial, it is just using the same stereotypical trope that I´ve seen in hundreds of games before. I think there are better and more creative ways to make me feel involved in a dark and morally ambigous setting...

I actually agree with you but that has nothing to do with why they're not in Inquisition.

As PC as BioWare has become I'm just glad our quizzy didn't have to sit through the Inquisitions mandatory sexual harrasment awarness seminar.

Well, you have the Codex entry "Sexuality in Thedas" to compensate for that irresponsible lack. :P

My rant really came out of nowhere... Sorry. But I still believe those changes were brought to the games because of those silly complains made by people like Anita. Fox news made a lot of noise back then because of the Mass Effect sex scenes, then they got removed or modified in ME3 and beyond. I wish gaming companies stopped crumbling under the pressure of critiques like Sarkeesian, who I believe, are just big bullies using the medias to spread their hatred. Oh yes, I do realize that I am myself an antagonist to those people. Just sharing how I feel.

But they don't want to take away our games :*( My friend says this every time we find some article about a scene or a quest that got removed from a game because feminists bullied them.

And yes, I too came to BW games because of the lack of pc, i thought they were special, turns out they aren't so much anymore and bow down to the rest of the world. OH and any chance that we had for a followup game from BW for either series that involved M rated humor or settings of the like, well, no. Not anymore, because 2014 decided DA:I was deserving of that title, GOTY, which ironically came from deleted content from the finalized game.

Yet Game of Thrones, a show I consider to be overly hyped and generic, seems to catch many peoples fascinations when using said 'tropes'. Get over it already, people love violence, people love sexual themes, people like to fringe on the extreme and anything less is already at a disadvantage because deep down inside, humans enjoy controversy. It's when we limit things people notice that creativity is hindered rendering dissatisfied fans from the first generation of this particular series (DA:O).

Finally some one nails it down. This it it, controversy makes thing interesting. I personally find inquisition boring, hell we do nothing of the sort the title suggests. there is nothing interesting in it. I still rate da 2 higher, now i got a beige inquisitor in clothes, colour and in character cause thats all he can be in a beige setting of inquisition.

I don't mind sexual themes, but the way sex workers and brothels are presented in DA and many other games is as far from sexually intriguing you could possibly get...the most intriguing sex worker i´ve encountered in a game is actually Fisto...

...desire demons btw, don't really rank much higher...

If every show copied Game of Thrones and did the exact same thing, the controversy would soon fade, that is what has happened to the sex worker character and brothel setting in computer games...

I actually feel that would feel natural. A roman style hole where people pay a gold piece to use in public. Could have an attendant and random NPC's squatting.

The poor towns could have filthy, unkempt ones. Dalish camp occasionally would have an elf Slav squatting at the river.

All I know I could use an elvish hooker to forget all this Corypheus origin nonsense.

If there's going to be a petition or something let me know.

I don't know how feminists like Anita Sarkeesian would ever be offended by adding brothels into the game. I could understand if the brothels are run by tevinter slavers, and that they're forcing their slaves (Male and female) to work as a prostitute with zero compensation... but so far we do not see that happening from the previous games. What we see are men and women who are working like everyone else, but instead of being a merchant or being a store owner... they're providing a sexual service for the Guards/Templars and soldiers. They also provide services for citizens like Gamlen Amell who have self-destructive lives. What is wrong with making a living? Perhaps Miss Sarkeesian should make a video explaining that one to us.

Deep down, even the PC weaklings love the controversy of violent and sex themes...

It allows them to do what they are most adept at; whinging.

The PC argument in regards to prostitution is that women are being used as objects and are not respected as human beings... (interestingly, the idea of male prostitutes often doesn't come into this equation) but what they fail to realise is that a lot of these women actually like their jobs, particularly the nymphomaniac personalities. I knew a girl who was a self-proclaimed sex addict (a nice way of admitting you're a sl*t) and she said that men didn't use her, she used them....

On the other hand, there are also addicts who just need a lot of cash to feed their habit so excuse me if I don't buy this optimistic interpretation.

Evil, but creative in that regard, missed out on seeing some templars resorting to desperate acts to feed their lyrium addiction when they aren't with the chantry anymore.

Would never happen because PC.

Ahaha yes, that felt both superficial and uninspired and violated the fundamental law of good storytelling in a game/movie, i.e. "show, don't tell".

Instead of touching on issues, they just gave us a codex entry. Sigh.
