A drama queen...? why, thank you.

what to think of A. Sarkeesian then? Galactic Empress of drama queens?

Actually, it's kind of my point.  There is enough manipulation and agendas in business, politics, marketing, stock market trading...why can't I use games to escape effing real world problems anymore?

Trying to forcibly change words and thoughts is the very definition of totalitarianism in pretty much....every theory, be it legal, political, social, American, German, French, I can think of, you know.

In Dragon Age Origins we had The Pearl in Denerim. In Dragon Age 2 we had The Blooming Rose in Hightown. So where is our whorehouse in Dragon Age Inquisition? I couldn't seem to find it after playing the game for over 200 hours. Did anyone else? Where is the location?

I know everyone hates Dragon Age 2.... but...........

Same place the desire demons went, to political correctness world..

So the lack of brothels makes it impossible for you to escape the real world drama?

Totalitarianism? A game which does not feature desire demons and brothels makes you fear the re-birth of gulags? Do you see where this drama queen vibe is coming from?

The lack of brothels is a minor point. Sanitization (look it up if you're interested) of games is not. That's my opinion. Please, let's agree to disagree.  This conversation is sterile imho

In as much as a modern nation state can be regarded as the physical and cultural property of its' citizens...but that's way off the point of this discussion...

I think you are being a drama queen with this whole feminists-are-taking-over-our-games because there are no pointless and boring whorehouses in Dragon Age...

They don't want to take our games..

Wish I could post a Kappa picture.

Now we're resorting to labeling because someone doesn't quite agree with your stance? o.o

Of course my dear! Labeling, passive aggressiveness, patronizing, snarkiness and condescending are just some of my endearing qualities...

I think we can agree on the fact that the lack of adult touch, the lack game of throne grittiness is what bothers people. The franchise has moved away from its niche market towards a wider audience. We have to accept that.

The shock value is gone and mmo style farming has been added. The opening post of this discussion shows an example of this apparent process I think.

I know everyone hates Dragon Age 2.... but...........

Now, I wanted to fully reply to this one as to why I enjoy this so much!

In Dragon Age Origins, and in Dragon Age 2, you had the elements that made it somewhat attractive for the older generation. Moreso in Origins, the BG like combat, slow paced yet very tactical, then you had the humanistic elements that came with both games, somewhat evident still in Inquisition but, I argue that not as much as Origins or 2.

Not entirely unique from Inquisition but hopefully it'll be clearer why I highlighted this

Origins, you touched on the darkest elements of humanity, barbarism, slavery (alienage), rape (childhood friend of the city elf), discrimination (grey wardens, mages, dwarf or maybe elf? yeah..), tragedy. - Depending on your past, race or choices, you had a sense of a personal story that you could shape. It seemed to engage the story far more than it did in other games (because they accounted for it in development). My character was a human noble, and he never did get his final chance to say goodbye to his father that died in the coup against your home. But as a reward, or a quiz, you were offered that moment to reconcile or get that semblance of relief for your character, after entering and partaking in the Temple of Sacred Ashes riddle. -- Inquisition? Your choice of race did not have significance other than a brief conversation with Josephine, and warboard missions. Felt like you lacked that special identifier coming to Inquisition, what made your character stand out from other choices, race or background for example.

Dragon Age 2, while they eliminated BG like combat, they retained a lot of what DA:O offered in terms of story telling. With this however, they flipped what they did in Origins, and gave you a preset character with a preset history. Your identity was already set in motion, being a mage, or being a non mage was your only variant aside from sex. - Between Inquisition and DA2, the hero of kirkwall had, what I believe, more antagonistic enemies than well, corypheous. It somehow felt more engaging (FOR ME), to defeat the Arishok, to bring peace to Kirkwall and to put an end to the bloodshed of the civilians in the streets. Comparing the protagonists of each game, Hawke was more identifiable than was the Inquisitor. You had family to watch out for, did you leave your brother/sister home? Did one of them join the templars out of pride, or was she taken away to the chantry circle, or did you leave them to die in the deep roads, or, have them join the grey wardens to avoid their demise. Your own mother was killed off, by a stalker necromancer no less, blood magic! No tragedy, to what I can remember, has befallen your inquisitor other than the tremendous burden you have to fix the tears in the sky created by a mad man wanting godhood.

Good things however, that inquisition repeated from Origins and Dragon Age 2, even some improvements! Terrain.. As much as I hate to say it, Hissing Wastes, while a barren territory had fantastic views. Areas were rather polished in texture. This was the improvement for me. The elements I hope they continue to bring? Characters, and for some, I hope improvement is in order in future games. I didn't much care for Vivienne or her love of Templars. Justifying the tyranny they brought toward mages for in their own care with harsh, yet begrudgingly sound argument ("when a mage becomes a demon in the tower, they aren't setting towns on fire my dear.."). But if you took the time to do their personal quests you could see some elements of humanity, good elements! I actually felt sympathy for her when Bastien passed away. Digging deeper you find she does admit that a mages experience with templars vary tower to tower. Hell, in some regards, she can be seen as someone that doesn't want to kill Cole, despite at all times asking you to get rid of him.. She shows concern that she might actually HAVE to kill Cole if he becomes controlled by corypheous. I'd say that Inquisiton had more diverse characters than DA2, and possibly DA:O. Though, I miss the debates between Morrigan and Alistair.. I wasn't too much of a fan of Sera, but that might change if I do a playthrough with her in my party. I guess with all the Keeper elves I've had or proper elves, a city elf that spits on both magic and nobility was a change due to come.

Taking away the brothels, minor, not overly significant, but it can be taken as a sign of the game trying to please all crowds. To the papercut ninja, I will concede, taking away brothels took nothing too significant to the game, but it's more about suspicion they did so to appease pc crowd. Look below in the article, some of these scenes were admitted to be taken out to avoid offending people. The fear is NOT just what they took out, but will we see things taken out again that COULD HAVE been interesting to see in the next game. As I was lured to this series from Origins, it progressively changed.. Streamers who played this (one that regularly averages 20-25k viewers on twitch daily) on release said, "this does not feel like a dragon age game, its fun but it just doesn't feel the same". I posit that focus groups, and internet reviews have completely altered the identity of Dragon Age the series. For better or worse, it depends on your perspective.

Yeah, one thousand times yes...like I said two months ago on another thread:

'Greed (E.A.), half-assed social activists(A.S.) and useless flame wars (US) are killing the spirit of this industry/art (don't want to debate)'.

So, agreeing 150% with you.

And, yes, we all sound like broken records on this game now.

The game is rated M for mature 17+. This means that the game will have blood, intense violence, Nudity, Sexual content,  and not but least... Strong language (Swearing).  When I purchase a game that has these specific warnings I expect the game to have adult content.. Just like I expect adult content when I watch a porn film.

After 200 hours of playing this game the only time I saw any kind of nudity and sexual content was when I was finalizing my romance with Cassandra. That is all. It was highly disappointed considering the fact that I thought I was purchasing a matured rated game.

The game wouldn't be as bad if it had more adult like content in the game like this.

For me taking away brothels is not minor, but a significant blow. It takes away my charecters freedom to do other things but slash and dash his respawned enemies. I don't give a damn if people are offended by sexual content. It's not my problem but theirs. Just because a certain crowd doesn't like it doesn't mean the rest of the gaming population has to suffer from prudes who are so frighten at the idea of sex being in the game.

I don´t believe DA was ever gritty...some demons with boobpatches and sex workers are pretty much vanilla as far as fantasy themes go. I can't say I ever felt any "shock-value", it had about as much freshness and wow-factor as seeing an axe or a dragon...

...and walking into the Pearl and being presented with something that was more or less like buying a cupcake, somehow satisfied this curiosity and desire for adult and mature content? Funny, because if I want to meet adult content, I want it presented to me as if I am an actual adult...

I actually like and 100% support that idea of cooking your own food. The idea of gathering up ingredients to make your own food seems like a great idea... especially considering the fact that theirs available steamy pots out in abandoned camp sites.

Another thing Bioware forgot to see in Skyrim.

So, we agree in fact, Papercut;

Sanitization is basically a distortion between fiction and reality, covered up with the fake excuses of PC and poetic license.

I refer to the over-used argument of people on this forum:

'You're complaining of X (brothels, sexy women, coherent clothing and armor, blood and gore, men in power) not being in DAI, a fantasy game where dragons and magic blah blablah, so not realistic is not an argument, I win, give me some likes'

A RPG need, like all work of fiction, to have internal coherence for immersion purposes.  So, yes in a sense, bakeries and brothels are more important to be included in a game than Shards or crafting materials...

you should definitely try Gothic 3 with community patch.  I almost guarantee that if you give it a chance, you'll love it.  hunting and cooking food is a staple of the series, along with nudity, gore, coherent political thems, bearded hero...

Right on! I expect to do non-combat activities in a RPG. If I wanted to do nothing more than slash and dash on my enemies I would get back to playing my first player shooter games

I like how you can wield magic yet you still can use a crossbow, and daggers! So restrictive in Dragon age!
