"I did sink 40 hours into it, which should theoretically be more than enough to finish any single player game"
Oh dear. Oh no. At the 40 hour mark I hope to be just getting into the meat of a cRPG. Man with short attention span has short attention.
It just reads like one of the posts on here, just without the breathless hyperbole and sighing.
...so there's that.
Gotys are fairrly cheap thesedays, just add EA to your speech's and its a done deal, or simply throw some cash at the reviewers.

I know, right? It's how EA bought all those GOTY awards for DA2 and Skyrim got screwed.
Honestly, I'm not even going to bother reading it. I don't care who wins game of the year. Inquisition is, in my opinion, a very good game that I've enjoyed immensely even despite playing it extensively since I got it. That's all I need to know.
I will however pick up the next issue of American Journal of Psychiatry which has an interesting article on what they are calling Dragon Age Derangement Syndrome dealing with the unhealthy hatred some people have for video games that for some reason didnt meet their personal goals.
Psychiatry...weird word.
Oscar awards are so overrated.
Oh look, here's a good review: http://uk.ign.com/ar...uisition-review, which I googled at random.
hmm, interesting...

A guy thinks Hearthstone should have been game of the year instead of DAI. Stop the freaking presses.
I played Hearthstone for about 4 hours before I realized that there's no skill involved in it whatsoever. The expansions may have changed that somewhat, but the vanilla game is all about your first hand. Nothing but luck.
You know you failed at making a card game when Yu-Gi-Oh is more strategic (though to be fair, Yu-Gi-Oh is complex as f**k now).
Let's look what he says about DA:O and DA2:
"Past that, though I’ve enjoyed Bioware’s Mass Effect series throughout the years, I’ve never managed to get into Dragon Age, despite playing all three games extensively. I hated the silent protagonist of Origins, and the dice-rolly combat system that felt dated even back then, and was frustratingly paired with a wildly uneven difficulty curve. I liked the more streamlined combat system of DA2, yet it’s hard to be anything other than disappointed with the scope of that game, and I’ve never seen any virtual world that has used copy and paste quite as extensively."
Not the best trump card for the DA:I naysayers and doombringers to hold around, just sayin'.
Well since he clearly doesn't like any of them anyway...

Lol, I think, people at Forbes really don't like DA:I
Crash, while horrible, was nowhere near as bad. It had some great acting in it. There's nothing redeeming in DA:I.
DA:I doesn't deserve any GOTY awards. Far Cry 4 or Shadows of Mordor are much better than DA:I, but they don't deserve any either.
IMO the best games last year were indie games. Divinity: Original Sin and Shadowrun: Dragonfall are my games of the year.

He never wrote that.
"And I may love my Hearthstone, but I understand that in this age of blockbusters, it’s hard to consider what’s essentially a relatively niche puzzle game as GOTY."
Here's the thing about reviews. A reviewer garners credibility when their review typically matches that of the reader. In the future, the reader that shared mutual opinions might trust that reviewer on a game in the future.
What this one tells me is .... I don't ever have to use Forbes as a review for my games. In fact, a bad review by them, might just mean its a game I will like, since we seem to largely have opposite opinions about whats good.
