Someone doesn't like Inquisition meanwhile I think the Elder Scrolls series is trash :)

Honestly it boils down to what the majority likes and the majority favored Inquisition not Hearthstone or Smite or whatever else some other guy on the internet thinks was best

So I'm just gonna quote a good friend

"Deal with It!" - Cassandra Pentaghast

I give the review a 2 out of 10.
The guy should do his homework before criticising the game as I don’t think he knows what he is talking about.

Elder scrolls series (Skyrim) probably is average on CONSOLES, on the PC with all its mods from the developers freely provided CreationKit makes it is an awesome game, which is something extremely unlikely to happen with any EAware game...

DA:I is an average game I wish I didn't buy, but I did so from the nostalgia of Bioware making actual good games.

It's odd. While I don't disagree with several points in the article, forbes writers seem to have their fur all rustled over Dragon Age in general. All of their articles about it are surprisingly pessimistic.

Forbes GOTY is Hearthstone. They also put Mario Kart above Divinity Original Sin. So, yeah, RPGs not their thing ;p

Their GOTY ranking is:

Winner:

1. Hearthstone ( GOTY )

Gold Medal:

2. Mario Kart 8

3. Bayonetta 2

4. Wolfenstein: New Order

Silver Medal:

5. Divinity Original Sin

6. South Park: Stick of Truth

7. Far Cry 4

8. Shadow of Mordor

Bronze Medal:

9. Dark Souls 2

10. Alien Isolation

11. Shovel Knight

12. Destiny

13. Dragon Age Inquisition

Make of it what you will.

They're celebrating a poor man's "Magic - The Gathering" yet have the hide to criticise Inquisition for raking in awards?

I know, right?

Granted, I'm still trying to figure out why Forbes even has game reviews. I mean....its Forbes. Not exactly its target audience.

Alien Isolation is in bronze as well, which is interesting. They also put Divinity in with South Park...

Well, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I dislike many games because they are just not for me.

I think Bayonetta, Mordor and Destiny are trash because I just don't like these kind of games. But I don't try to convince other people that it's wrong to like them.

When a game wins reader's and critic's polls on many websites and magazines, maybe it's just really good.

The games do exist you can pick up Realms of Arkania(Blades of Destiny, Star Trail and Shadows over Riva) from GOG. Just remember the graphics and combat are a bit dated.

If you want an updated game based on the same P & P RPG (Das Schwarze Auge -The Dark Eye) ) pick up Drakensang The Complete Saga on Amazon. All of games are available for the PC.

Thanks! I don't mind dated graphics (replaying PS:T atm), I find the awkward UI of some the old games a bit irritating though (but not irritating enough to prevent me from playing).

This, here, is something that some people on this forum really should take note of.

DA:I doesn't deserve any GOTY awards. Far Cry 4 or Shadows of Mordor are much better than DA:I, but they don't deserve any either.

IMO the best games last year were indie games. Divinity: Original Sin and Shadowrun: Dragonfall are my games of the year.

He never wrote that.

"And I may love my Hearthstone, but I understand that in this age of blockbusters, it’s hard to consider what’s essentially a relatively niche puzzle game as GOTY."

Mine too.  Shadowrun especially.  Check out Risen 3 as well (not bad) and Wasteland 2 (terribad AI, very very old school with skills, a little ugly, otherwise great).

It was a very good year....for indie games

He liked a pay to win Heartstone.... And dropped thousands of dollars of into. Should I really trust his judgement?

Bayenetta 2 is GOTY, but DA:I is in my top 5. Love this game.

I played Hearthstone for about 4 hours before I realized that there's no skill involved in it whatsoever. The expansions may have changed that somewhat, but the vanilla game is all about your first hand. Nothing but luck.

You know you failed at making a card game when Yu-Gi-Oh is more strategic (though to be fair, Yu-Gi-Oh is complex as f**k now).

To be fair, that's quite an ignorant statement.

I never cared for the exception Bethesda gets because the fans fix the problems with their game, if you are going to say Skyrim is good it needs to be judged on the merits of what Bethesda released.  Instead people are giving Bethesda credit for work others are doing which at some level seems like they are taking advantage of an unpaid and unaccredited intern and this still leads to people not having the same experience in the game for not everyone is downloading the same mods to get the same experience.

You cannot, with a straight face, say that Hearthstone takes any amount of skill when a halfway decently built Warrior deck has multiple OTK combos that deal upwards of 32 damage.

Whether you like Hearthstone or not, you have to concede it has been insanely successful. From a business standpoint, it's the stand out gaming success story of the year, having garnered 20 million players in no time at all, already developed a tournament scene, and being one of the most watched games on Twitch. Achieving that kind of market presence so quickly is massive, which is why even though it's a pretty simple game from a technical perspective, it deserves consideration as a GotY contender.

Like I said, this is Forbes. An economic magazine. Of course they would love a game that was cheap to make and generate loads of money. The author even said spent hundreds of dollars on packs as proof it was a good game.
The main thing I cringed at was that they had Destiny in the same teir as DA:I. Honestly, I don't put much stock into Forbes' opinion. They are a Financial magazine and are only dipping into the gaming industry because its a big market, not because they know what they are talking about. If I want to know well a game sold or how well a devoloper did this quarter Forbes would be my source. But for game quality? No.

I think it's more comparable to The English Patient winning the Oscar in 1996.

Over Fargo.

There were a few Fargos this year.  Divinity: Original Sin being one of them.

--

But hey, it's a console eat console world.  Them's the breaks.  The fix is in.

All we can do is continue to urge Ralph Fiennes' burn victim in the English Patient to just...die!

As much as we can continue to urge consoles to just...die!

People still ignore DAI is an awesome game. The point is not to deny DAI awesomeness, AS A GAME, but as something a lot more specific:

I will rate it again:

As a game: 9/10

As a RPG: 8/10

As a DA: 7/10

As for PC: 6/10

Considering what was promised by the developers in countless streamings, posts, interviews, etc: 0/10

They just should have made a MMORPG or they could have been honest and said what they were doing exactly. Even if you love the game you can't honestly say they delivered what they promise. Even a simple thing like "combat is mix between DAO and DA2" is absurd since it went completely action and is completely different from both, god I would hate this game so much less if AT LEAST this promise they folowed to the end... but no... then other follow as you are all aware of like PC as lead platform and so on... the fable "decisions that matter" (but this one is old as hell, not DAI exclusive for sure)... races/specializations that matter (well some people think it does, I see no difference at all, I'm not a lover of random useless comments about how dangerous dragon blood is or that magic is scary, also great job at killing the whole clan and ignoring it)... anyway, they just shouldn't have lied

Its more of an RPG then Dark Souls 2 or any dark souls. IMO of course. Also IMO DAI is the only decent RPG of 2014

Divinity: Original Sin and Shadowrun: Dragonfall aren't even decent rpgs?  :o

If you like a game like ToEE and IWD and think those are good RPGs, sure. But there's always been a huge dispute over whether that was the case vs. e.g. PST.

Criteria was decent, to any objective observer all of those and the 2 I listed are decent rpgs.

I wouldn't consider either of them decent RPGs, though I do think they are excellent isometric combat simulators (similar to Divinity). Sorry if I wasn't clear - that was my point. I appreciate that their combat is phenomenally well done. I just think that adequate combat is a minimum threshold for an RPG, and anything above adequate is largely irrelevant (though excellent combat can be a non-RPG related reason for playing the game, much in the same way that the excellent tactical combat of XCOM:EU is a reason to play it).
