Loving the game, until getting to Orzammar - for a difficulty on normal, its been a total chore......

Just trying to survive this area. Its the least interesting yet the longest.....argh

Was loving the other areas, but they are so much shorter in comparison

The issues: since you can't go back to camp easily and since I did not think I would need 120 injury kits, everyone has been super injured for half the entire area....

And I hate playing a part over and over, and have to redo an interactive cutscene 20 times....

I wish I could nuke the frakking mountain

oooh i love Orzammar and Deep Roads. I always go there first. Best experience on Nightmare.

No health potions, no mana potions. You survive on rare loot and open lyrium veins.

Challenge, overcoming, blood, traumas.

Triumph.

Best area in the whole game.

Wait, wait let me get it right, you think the mage campign is shorter than Orzammar? The fade, the 4 floors, and the top one?

I do....Orzammar was about the same size until the deep roads. once there, you get little in the way of crafting, the game never gives injury kits and its just a chore....you go straight from the Anvil part to Branka who is so op its not even funny

You do know you can return to the city at any point up to Branka?

I generally do Orzammar until I get Oghren, then go off to do other stuff. I break each Deep Road segment into tasty bite sized chunks that I do in between the other main quests. This helps keep the whole thing from being too much.

Until I got blocked in, I did not know I was gonna get blocked in. Never happened before. So, yeah, I am screwed

Thanks for the comments. Gonna chill out for a day or two then reload to an earlier part and load up on supplies

you should read up on what armor to wear, it makes all the difference.

this game is too difficult first play-through since you don't know what equipment to use, or where to get it,

but too easy once you know what equipment to use, and where to get it.

I do same as mouse, wait with the deep roads for last

Thanks - well, finally got it - killed Branka and the big dude...went with Branka's death for my save....I kept getting my ass kicked, then suddenly we beat it........weird how the AI does ok sometimes, and awful others...but yeah, I also need to beef up some of my skills

Level 18 mage - guessing 20 is it based on achievements?

The game has not been too hard at all...until Branka...that felt much harder than what came before.

I feel your pain, OP.  Orzammar is the worst part of the game outside of the fade portion of the mages' tower (but then I have been using the Skip the Fade mod for a long time now and it's been rendered mostly painless).  There is no way outside of using console to shorten the pain there.

I usually do Orzammar portions first, Including the Carta mission, just prior to getting the mission to go down into the Deep Roads for the paragon, then doing other stuff, then coming back to the Deep Roads and doing it all in one swoop like a bandaid, yanking it off fast to get it over with.  By this time whatever mage (Warden, Wynne or Morrigan) I am using has "Haste" which helps tons with the time line down there.

the hardest fight i know of is in orzammar, i play AW solo nightmare, and in the arena on optional fights,

the last fight IIRC, the one that give me blood ring, -i meet another AW along with 3 other fighters,

that elf mage activate mana shield and blast a debuff spell, rendering me on cooldown and no nuffing,

i typically lose several times here

Orzammar does have some pretty tough fights in the Deep Roads. It is overall my favourite section of the game, though; I like the atmosphere and the challenge. Of course, I also like the Fade sections, so apparently I'm a bit of an outlier there.

I do most often end up doing Orzammar last, and it can be somewhat tough even then depending on the strength of your character and NPCs; if done first, it can be quite challenging indeed.

The Branka fight (and the Caridin fight, on the rarer occasions that I've gone that route) is consistently one of the toughest, if not the toughest, fight in the game for me. Probably because I have often ended up playing characters who are not particularly resistant to being knocked down, and I refuse to do anything but come up with the best strategy I can and stand and fight.

I loved that part - it was a little confusing at first, but not a challenge enemy wise...the whole game has been pretty fair in regards to difficulty until Branka. There is also the one demon guy in the unbound mission that seems to be a super boss, healthy and resistance wise...

I had started the game, played for 17 hours then started over when i finally had a grasp of what I was really doing....

Been there done that multiple times with my canon Warden.  Yes, the Fade did get old, but I still can't bring myself to use the Skip the Fade mod.

When you're fighting Branka (I don't know if this is also true for Caridin or not, since I have yet to side with Branka) it helps to keep two things in mind:

1) Keep an eye on the lyrium veins.  She uses them to spawn those alternate versions of herself, but all of your characters can use them as well (not just mages).  They take time to respawn/replenish, but they DO respawn, which is a big help for any mages in your party.

2) Most important, tactical pauses (and spells like Lifeward and Revival) are your best friends.

You do realize that when you hit the deep roads, you can return to camp by going to your world map and selecting it. Instead of being forced to select the next location of the deep roads. Your not trapped down there. you can leave at any time.

Personally I love this part of the quest and it can last much longer then the elves (which I feel is rather short) and the circle mages. Orzammar just has so much more to do. Even more so if your playing both sides against each other heh.

It is also helpful to bring two mages. If your not a mage then bring two. I bring Wynne and Morrigan. Morrigan does massive amounts of AOE damage while Wynne I have as a healer. I got into tight spots a few times but nothing to dreadful that made me hate the place. I simply dislike being so far underground...

I love all of the game except the fade. I love the deep roads, it is a great dungeon crawl and lots of stuff to find. :)

Just beat the main game today; with my first start/stop, about 60 hours

Game on Normal played fairly easily, except for about three main parts, including the Archdemon..........started the Awakening and gotta say: enjoying the story quite a bit

I actually enjoy the fade, checking out the different sections, acquiring different abilities and seeing your companions’ dreams (though I was disappointed when I finally saw the dog’s dream...though it kind of made sense that it would be simple like that).

The Deep Roads on the other hand...way too hard, way too long, and that bit where the shrieks ambush you from both sides can die in a fire. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate shrieks?

Orzammar was my least favorite part of the game as well. I always did it last so I could already have good items and high lvl skills, and I just kind of bull rushed it

So does the enemies level with you? In the DLC, they do not seem to, as normal is, again, pretty easy. When playing Origins, i did Orazammar last, right before the last main storyline, and the enemies suddenly jumped in difficulty by a lot.......

It was more headscratching than anything.

I suspect the PC plays a tad easier than on console, if for no other reason than the controls on PC are way more streamlined. So anyone beat this on console Nightmare? I would shake their hand. Seriously impressive

One thing I've learned now, that I wish I had paid more attention to: outfit sets...I would piecemeal outfits, and I think that hurt me big time

Make sure you have several, separate hard saves - Awakening is notoriously buggy.

There is a skip deep roads mod I think.
