Some of the best fights in the game IMHO happen in the deep roads
I was loving Origins, then Orzammar happened, now loving game again!

Personally I think the Deep Roads are the best part of the game - bar none. Orzammar both opens possibilites for some good role-playing, the quests are rewarding, and the tension and spookiness especially near the end of Bownammar is just awesome. And the music scores for the areas - frightening and just perfect for the sinister visual setting. The Deep Roads alone gets a 10/10 on my scoreboard.
Also, DAO is the last game I know of where not everything has been "scaled to death" - there are areas in DAO that simply aren't recommended to go to before you attain a certain level - and with good reason. You can go to the Deep Roads at level 9-10 if you like, but expect to receive some serious kicks in the butt - as it should be. We're talking about originally dwarven areas that have been lost to the darkspawn, after all.

Loving the game, until getting to Orzammar - for a difficulty on normal, its been a total chore......
Just trying to survive this area. Its the least interesting yet the longest.....argh
Was loving the other areas, but they are so much shorter in comparison
The issues: since you can't go back to camp easily and since I did not think I would need 120 injury kits, everyone has been super injured for half the entire area....
And I hate playing a part over and over, and have to redo an interactive cutscene 20 times....
I wish I could nuke the frakking mountain
Oh. I feel your pain. I also laughed with tears streaming down my face at your honesty. It will get better. You're still on the journey...

Deep roads for me added to the doom and gloom world of Origins. That place seriously is very depressing and claustraphobic. But the feeling when you emerge from that place, straight to crowning the king is really nice.
I love the cutscene with Oghren when you emerge from Orzammar. That's storytelling. I suddenly felt a little sympathy for the widower. I figured he's got my back even though he still isn't sure what is going to happen when there isn't a visible roof over your head.

Yes, for me and every subsequent pass through Origins is: Redcliff, the Circle Tower, Redcliff, Brecilian Forest, Denerim side quests, Warden's Keep, Orzammar, Shale, Return to Ostagar, Denerim and then follow through to endgame.

I have to say, this post goes perfectly with your avatar, especially that last line. ![]()
But yeah, Orzammar is always the last place I go to. I left it until last by chance on my first run, but I daren't go there any earlier. ![]()
And I'm dreading it on my current run(my first attempt at Nightmare difficulty)

Thanks for the support, all! About halfway or more thru the Awakening, and in some ways, i am enjoying its storyline moreso than I expected. I very much like the idea of Intelligent Darkspawn.
And I take it that some of the chracters from this DLC are in Part 2?
I started to play Origins with the sole purpose of knowing the story so I could play DA:I, but having enjoyed it a lot, I am definitely going to play DA2 first. Knowing full well that its gonna be a different type of experience.

One is.
Technically I suppose you could say two, but really only one.

The Deep Roads is the hardest part in the game along with the Brecilian Forest
I always leave those two last
thing is that the deep roads after some playthroughs it's just really tiring

The Branka fight (and the Caridin fight, on the rarer occasions that I've gone that route) is consistently one of the toughest, if not the toughest, fight in the game for me.
Branka is a ridiculously tough boss. Not sure why she, as a non-mage, is able to clone herself (I wasn't aware anyone in DA:O could do that...). She hits like a truck and doesn't seem to ever take damage, though I've only ever fought her with a rogue Warden, which obviously makes it a lot tougher.
Caridin, on the other hand, was actually really easy (at least on Normal). On my last playthrough I accidentally triggered the wrong conversation and started the fight when I wanted to fight Branka. So I literally put the controller down and walked away, intending to TPK and start over, but my crazy B-team party of Oghren, Wynne and Leliana beat him without anyone dying. It was so bizarre I didn't even have the heart to reload like I originally wanted to.

I use three rogues and Morrigan.. Branka is finish just over 2 minutes. While the others are fighting the golems Morrigan uses walking bomb followed by fireball and ice.
All three rogues and Morrigan are tanked.

DAO does use a leveling system, but its done by map. Enemies have a maximum and minimum scale factor for any one map. The amount of scaling is relative to the strength of your party, but it will always be limited. So does the enemies level with you? In the DLC, they do not seem to, as normal is, again, pretty easy. When playing Origins, i did Orazammar last, right before the last main storyline, and the enemies suddenly jumped in difficulty by a lot.......
It was more headscratching than anything.
For Orzammar, the first encounter is a 'gating' encounter. If you cant win past it, then you are too low level for the encounters beyond - that is level-up some more then return!

(sadly the map link no longer works)

Neverwinter,The fade is easy once a player learns how its done.. I have watched several "let's plays" on you tube where the players stumbles through and says how much they hate the fade.
Another thing I don't understand is why some players still have Elvan armor on their Dalish warden or Leliana still wearing her rubes when they head into the deep roads.
I start upgrading my wardens armor at the Ostagar. When Leliana joins my group in Lothering off with the robes and on with the armor.
Even Morrigan gets armor before we leave Flemeth's hut. When I use a mage its off with the robes and on with the armor.

The Circle Tower and Orzammar questlines are my favorite. I actually like the Fade section and the Deep Roads.

The Deep Roads arc is long and redundant and difficult, but it makes sense, for the most part.
My biggest problem with the Fade is that it implements new mechanics that force you to drastically alter your strategy, with no callback to it later in the game. Usually when a game introduces a new mechanic, you're supposed to learn from it so you can use it to your advantage later on. You can't do this with the Fade. The whole level exists in a vacuum because it's magical dream land.
Granted, there are things you can learn from this which can help you later on. The first time I played through as a rogue archer, I had to think differently about how to fight solo, since I normally relied on my team. But ultimately, once you escaped the Fade, you didn't need this knowledge anymore.
The Fade presented a cool opportunity, but I feel like it could've been executed in a more meaningful way, perhaps even with more narrative puzzle-solving as the protagonist struggles to escape from their "nightmare" (and it would've been nice if the nightmare was more personal to your origin, but I guess you can't have everything). Somehow, being able to turn into a mouse and light myself on fire didn't achieve what could've been a really powerful and interesting effect.

True. They're kinda draggy, but have good, dark atmosphere, at least for me. As for the Fade - I always enjoy that part: experiencing companions dreams, shapeshifting, I find it all very nice. Pity you can't keep those abilities. Anyhow, I prefer both Circle of Magi and Orzammar over Brecillian Forest. Those Sylvans are annoying and that wood have no atmosphere, in my opinion. But, to be honest, that can be said about lots of locations in Origins.

I breeze through the Brecillian Forest even doing the side quests and finding the armor. Then the return trip to do Wynne's quest and finding Dalish gloves for Zevran is nice a break in the normal game story.
I find Soldier's Peak a interesting and fun side quest.
I must admit I used my Final Fantasy character build experience to build my DA characters and had many game restarts in find what works best for me. Oddly that was three rogues and Morrigan built as tanks-straight from Final Fantasy 1- three fighters and a red mage.
