Ooh yes. And make some of the companions refuse too, based on their personalities.

Let's be honest, marriage isn't for everyone. It doesn't make sense for characters like Morrigan, Zevran or Isabella to accept a marriage proposal and I think it would give the characters more depth as well.

Tbh, I wish the quiz could get shot down more in general based on personality and beliefs. It doesn't make sense that you can be gated by gender or race (although I get it for development reasons) but not by not by character. Why would someone who's deeply Andrastian and upstanding like Cassandra want to be with, oh say, a corrupt dwarf mage who hates the chantry and believes the maker doesn't exist? It just doesn't make sense.

So yeah, the ability to have a proposal get shot down based on personality and even class would be excellent.

Wait, are you saying that David is against same sex marriage? Where did you read that?  Being part of the LGBT, I thought he would support it... unless I'm completely out of touch with the media.

Nope, I never said that. Gaider said he supports it irl, but thinks it would feel "anachronistic" in the old timey fantasy world of DA. He also said he doubted that it would occur to people in Thedas.....

Even though DA:I clearly shows that it's occurred to quite a lot of people in Thedas.

Well, hetersosexual couples can't get married either so it's fair to players at least in the sense that everyone gets nothing. :(

I like to think that the Skyrim way of marriage is what applies to non-noble humans. You find some charred corpses (Lovers in Thedas ALWAYS meet tragic ends...) in Emprise Du Lion, and you can loot an inscribed ring from them with a little message. Their proposal ring. So yeah, I'm sure weddings still happen for peasants, including City Elves: Remember the City Elf Origin?

Dalish Elves, on the other hand, "bond" or something. Cammen and Gheyna are our only examples of this I believe. The Dalish bond/marry to procreate and keep the people alive. Before doing so, they must prove they are both strong enough to be parents... Like, hunting a wolf and getting its pelt.

Dwarven nobles are probably the same as human nobles, except they must marry within their caste. Unless you're Bhelen.

And finally, the Qunari don't marry.

I wouldn't be too disappointed with him. It's an opinion and opinions do change. Plus, it's not really reflected in the game. If you go purely by what's said in the latest installment, it's very much a possibility. So who knows, maybe Dorian can't marry a bloke in Tevinter, but he can in Rivain. Or maybe the inquisitor can take over Southern Thedas and do whatever he/she wants.

As of now, we all have the same options and as long as that's the case, I don't think there's cause for upset.

I'm not really mad or upset at him. I understand where he's coming from; it's his lore after all... I respect him for that. However, I like role playing in that universe and that sorta ruined a little bit of my personal headcanons... I already wed two of my gay characters together and yikes...

You mean the ring Morrigan gives a male warden? Does the warden actually give her one back and agree to marry her? If not, then it's really just a gift.
Vivienne gives the quiz a ring, too, as a token of her affection, but it's definitely not a marriage proposal.

Vivienne gives you a ring? I have completed two games and she loved me! I never got a ring. Maybe a bug for me?

She gives you the ring, but it's not an item. It's like the rune Dagna gives you to break Samson's armour, invisible and part of your character. You can't equip it but it's "there" as a role play thing, even though it's quite pointless for the moment.

Gotcha! But still, I don't see how what he's said makes your headcanon less valid when it's contradicted by what's been shown...or at least said during the course of the game. If you asked Gaider a few years back what the Qunari would think of someone like Krem, I'm guessing his answer would contradict what we heard in DA:I.

As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing in the lore that says only heterorsexual couples can make vows/a commitment to each other.

Odd. Never had that conversation with her. Although, I also never got the Duke's family to show up either. I completed all of her missions and it just never happened. I spoke with a few other people who never got the family either.

In my first playthrough, Dorian's mission was also bugged. It makes me wonder what else I have missed.

Mmmm, money and pie...I like money and pie. :P

I agree with the OP's thoughts on having some kind of marriage route that can be followed (I think that's what she meant, might have gotten distracted my visions of money and pie dancing in my head). After all, if Bioware is going to have romances, it only makes sense that they have marriage available for those who want it. Although, I think that it would be okay (and realistic) to have some NPCs not willing to be tied down/married (although that would cause some people to really freak out). But then, I also think that having multiple, casual sexual encounters should be an option too. After all, I might get eaten by a dragon tomorrow...ya never know...and the last thing I want to worry about is starting a relationship. Although that approach didn't work very well with Daveth at Ostagar...or it could have been because he hadn't bathed in weeks. <shrug>

Perhaps it has to do with getting her Divine convo as well. I got the snow white quest, left Skyhold and came back to have a convo about helping to choose the next Divine. I verbally pledged my support to Cassandra but left her WT mission undone. So during that convo with Viv, I got the option to choose her for Divine.

I left Skyhold after the Snowy Wyvern quest, came back went upstairs to talk to Viv and triggered Bastien's family's visit.

When Duke Bastien's family comes, Josephine implies that Viv is up to something because Bastien's sister will have a lot of influence on who becomes Divine. So I'm thinking that maybe you won't get to see Vivienne working Bastien's family, if you've already supported someone else.

I would like to see some form of marriage too. Alas, bioware seems to prefer non-commital relationships.

Also...

Hey now.  Not married =/= not committed to one another.  Just ask Leliana how committed she is to her Warden.    ^_^

Or at least an engagement, which could be done without extra dev time (no wedding scene). I think it could add an extra layer to romances, with their "yes" or "no" another way to flesh out characters.

Been married before, I wouldn't subject my inquisitor to that kind of torture.

It's only torture if you pick the wrong one. :P

A whole thread full of people whinging that Bioware took their precious purple demon areolas and whorehouses away, but I'm the only one interested in seeing more on marriage in DA?

judgmentalmothergiselle.gif

Well you see, those demons would be better LIs in any way you look at it, and whorehouses... Our Inquisitors really need some loving over there! Holding hands is nice, yeah, but 'mature romances' aren't just about that.

Let's have some wine and sit by a fire and stare at it intensely. Ahh, Josie.. Such a bore for the amount of effort put in!

I'd enjoy a desire demon companion, sorry Cole :/ only one spirit on my team and if that were an option, choice.. spirit is it.

Oh, and to stay somewhat on topic, yes to marriages, ALL.. if any.

Yeah... Someone at her position should know more... about positions, if you see what I mean.
