That's a good message to send. "It's okay to commit adultery, everybody."
I think it's pretty much OK with all parties concerned, in this situation.

And? Doesn't suddenly make it a good message.

If people really see that much into it, then they should probably rethink their priorities

Then please enlighten me. How am I supposed to take that scene?

So yet another example of them only treating marriage as a joke. Thanks, that is so much better.

I didn't see Marriage treated as a joke with the Warden marrying Alistair or Anora, reading too much into things will get yourself worked up over everything

Neither does the alternative, tbh, if you're thinking of it as a message about irl marriage. You can also encourage the bride to grow up and put an end to childish love or something to that effect. The quiz will emphasize duty over love and the importance of two strong houses joining together. The bride seems to like this as much as continuing an affair with the guy she does love. She likes the idea of becoming more powerful and being an adult who can tell people what to do.
Nobles don't see marriage as sacred or about love, from all I gather. I think Josephine called marriage "currency" for them.
Now this is something! Inquisitor encourages bride to commit adultery. There should be option to punish them for not keeping a proper facade. What if peasants see them! Ow my!
My Inquisitor was just salty because she didn't an engagement option...also Viv was there and she knows a bit about the joys of being a mistress.
I have always thought it's weird that although s/s relationships are accepted in Thedas, we have only seen...what, 3 s/s couples outside our hero? (Wade/Herren, Celine/Briala and Branka/Hespith) They don't even have to be married, I mean where are the random non-straight quest givers? It's always a woman wanting to find her husband's ring, a man waiting for his female lover to come up the mountain, a man wanting a potion for his sick wife, etc...Why is it never a man wanting you to deliver something to his male lover or a woman wanting you to plant flowers on her female love's grave?
Dammit, I just looked up the Princess Bride scene, only to find out that someone else already linked it.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE
I'll get over it.
Well, I can still link this one:

There are some more lesbian couples in Inquisitor, there is Ritts for one, at the Exhaled Plain you also meet a wounded female solder that wants you to deliver something (don't remember if it a ring or a letter) to her female lover.
Nah we don't need boobs to see. We want mature romance.
Watching the fire with a cup of gluhwine scene? Something romantic like a ball @Skyhold Josie was talking about? Dancing lessons? More Josie's story to those who romance her? Come on!
I could get behind this. For any romance, really.
I liked the idea of dueling for her, but I wish the event itself was more dramatic. The entire endeavor felt a little too light-hearted for me.
With the Underworld Knowledge perk, it can take a somewhat darker turn. Though it does end the same.

There's also the bickering gay couple on the balcony in the Winter Palace. So there have been a few random s/s couples too.
My inquisitor asked Sera to marry her.. looking at her reaction my guess is that someone in BW is really against marriage! ![]()
Well, Gaider clarified that it is not homophobia that is the villain's mindset in Dorian's quest but the fact Dorian wouldn't get married that led to him considering to go against his morals and use blood magic to make Dorian compliant. There's another point for my theory.

It's not "reading too much into things" when the things being read are not subtle.
Divine Leliana would totally introduce gay marriage if someone suggested it to her.
I've joked that a hardened Leliana/Divine would basically slit the throat of anyone who stood in the way the Chantry recognizing same-sex marriages.
But didn't a dev say that a romanced Leliana would change the rules concerning the Divine and chastity if the warden's still alive? Her allowing ss marriage isn't a stretch. Yet another reason the absence of same-sex marriage in all of Thedas makes little sense.

Immediate thought? I wouldn't expect much consistency from Gaider on any topic.
Moving away from the controversy and to the point of marriage and same-sex couples;
It could very well be a case of same-sex relationships being accepted but m/f marriages being the 'norm' and expected to be the 'public' view of things; I.e. Historical Japan and Rome or Sparta whereby marriage was the norm but men and sometimes women still had same-sex lovers on the side.
It just wasn't expected that a marriage would be between the same-gender couples even if tentatively same-gender relationships were accepted. That make sense? As for *why* thats the case, different cultures had differing reasons usually it was to do with the bloodline (breeding doesn't need love!) but of course real world views may not apply to a game universe so who knows?

Even in societies where homosexuality was widely accepted, like Ancient Greece, same sex marriage was nonexistent. This is because marriage has always been about making children, ensuring those children live to adulthood, and making political alliances. Love wasn't a factor for much of history.
I'm not sure what this reply has to do with Leliana murder knifing everyone in the name equality, but I pretty much addressed the fallacy of this sort of marriage is 100% about makin' babies in our world so it must be in Thedas, too argument here:

I agree with the spirit of this message(I don't comment on real life historical aspect). Everybody, from the bottoms of society to its top should selectively approach marriage and breeding which is its natural consequence. Such trivial things as 'love' are nothing more than dangerous distractions of disturbed minds. People of Tevinter know about it very well, not to mention elvhes who can breed elvhes only with other elvhes. Marriage serves enhancements, not whims.
