So I hadn't ever gone to the Winter Palace with a romance running, but I actually was Lyrium-mancing Cullen this time. Apparently he gets some extra/different "protest" lines if he's the LI. He's asked if he's married, and he specifically says "not yet" but that he's taken.

I was a little surprised since I'm playing an elf mage. I'm assuming the banter doesn't change between any of his potential matches (it'd probably be the same with a human noble warrior or whatever I'm guessing) but the implication is that he has marriage to teh Quiz in his plans. Which would also imply that humans at least can legally marry elves (prolli frowned upon, but not strictly forbidden) and that he could marry a mage.

I dunno, I just hadn't seen that posted here and thought it was interesting. /2 coppers

^That's interesting about Cullen!

Let's be honest, marriage isn't for everyone. It doesn't make sense for characters like Morrigan, Zevran or Isabella to accept a marriage proposal and I think it would give the characters more depth as well.

Zevran will propose to a romanced Warden if you choose the right dialogue options.

Dwarven nobles are probably the same as human nobles, except they must marry within their caste. Unless you're Bhelen.

I laughed waaaaay harder than I should have. Bhelen, you special snowflake. <3

If you play a DC, a merchant will tell you that if you go to the surface you can get married by the human Chantry. Probably a novel idea for people who aren't considered people...

I don't really care about marriages, but I would like to crash a wedding in a Bioware game at some point.

Female Cousland and Alistair, male Cousland and Anora, and female Hawke and Sebastian I think are the only confirmed marriages for the PC iirc. I'd like to see moar.

It's easy to miss!

If you refuse the earring the first time and say that you'll only accept it if it means something, eventually you get this bit:

Warden: Maybe it would be better for you if we stopped.
Zevran: Maybe it would be. But only if it is impossible that there might be something between us, some possibility of... I do not know what.
Zevran: I... still have the earring. I would like to give it to you... as a token of affection.
Warden: That sounds like a proposal.
Zevran: Only if you wish it. (toolset describes his tone as "hopeful")

Well, in the City Elf origin in DAO a Chantry sister comes down to oversee the weddings, so chances are for Andrastian people to get married they go through the Chantry.

The Dalish probably do something similar but the Keeper oversees it.

The Dwarves probably get it recorded by the Shaperate.

The Qun doesn't have marriage.

This...

for a human , believer or not...they can still use a chantry church . But what of others ?? peoples who want wedding , will want wedding themed to their belief and I don't see Bioware doing that for anyone....cose y'know..ressources..time and all that stuff... -_-

And there is no way I'm marrying Sera in a chantry church !..well..Unless..we get to throw a Pie in the priestess face for 'I DO'

They would probably do a secular wedding so the different cultures wouldn't apply as much.

Does the concept of secular marriage even exist in Thedas?

Thousand year old elves rise from ancient slumber and try to kill you.

Dragons the size of small office buildings try to burn/freeze/shock you to death.

Horned Giants generally don't like your entire race

People can go invisible and stab you 38 times in a blink of an eye

But

Your question is about Marriage?

I love this community

I haven't done the Sera romance but I befriended her. She does believe in Andraste/the Maker ... or at least, she wants to. :)

 Big Snip

Anyway, relationships are such a big part of Bioware games, it would be cool if you dealt with marriage more.

You've got to be joking!

Electronic Arts chief creative officer Hillerman is  on record that "..Our games are actually still too hard to learn..".  Adding marriage issues adds no additional fun to the game... what's next? Divorce?

Yes, after the wedding, if you get enough disapproval points, your spouse will issue you with divorce papers.

You will then have to play a mini-game where you sign said papers.. the challenge?

The signatures have to match up to a T. ;)

Not surprising-- when you first with Cullen in Haven and ask if Templars are required to give up "physical temptations," he answers that "Templars can marry." So perhaps the two mean something similar to him. As I say, he's a Chantry boy. Not surprised.

Most likely. After all in Tevinter Mae, a transsexual magister, married a Dwarf. I can't think of anyone who would recognize that union in the way the lore tries to paint Thedas' views on the matter of it being for political reasons since that union can't produce offspring, which is an especially big no no considering Tevinter's whole "breed the perfect mage" philosophy.

True, though we don't really have a lot of info on how the Tevinter Chantry thinks.

It depends a lot on the setting. We tend to think of marriage as something acknowledged by some authority, but how local can that authority be? How earthbound need it be?

Historically, we've seen cultures where all two people need to do to marry is declare their intent to do so before their god. Or seek permission from a town elder. If TheThedas works like that, then anyone can marry for ant reason.

You could do that ten years ago anywhere not just in a fantasy world or medieval ages but some people want the Almighty State or the Almighty Religion to approve it.

Its far more romantic to be two people alone in the moonlight speaking vows with their hearts, imo.
