Corypheus isn't going to let his top lieutenant die by snow now is he? Probably flew them away on his Dragon of Destiny.
Don't we see Calpernia/Samson standing on some sort heightened position along side Corypheus? I assumed that was a vantage point where they directed the troops from that also happened to be safe from the avalance. Could be wrong of course.
The better question, is how the hell does Cullen immediatly know it is Samson that is leading the red templars? Cole didn't tell who the red templar leader was IIRC, just said that they were arriving.

But didn't the dragon flew towards Haven a few seconds after everything got buried? And I doubt they were sitting on the dragon the entire time it attacked Haven ![]()

PLOT HOLE.
Or maybe Cullen has secret binoculars no one knows about.
Samson was standing there for all to see. Cullen knows Samson well from his past.

Yeah, because Cullen would immediatly be able to see that it was Samson all those kilometers away.
From that distance and at night? Nah, that made no sense.Samson was standing there for all to see. Cullen knows Samson well from his past.

Apparently he saw him from that distance, it's a bit of a stretch given the distance, but not too much, ever noticed how you can recognize people you are very familiar with from very far away, from their posture or walk?
And it wasn't all that dark, with all those torches and moon.

"Its Samson alright, I'd recognize that mug anywhere."

Maybe the red lyrium stuck in his chest gave Samson a good lightsource!
Samson's armour makes his survival seem more likely than Calpernia, since we know it gives him a ridiculous amount of strength. It makes sense that he could have been caught in the avalanche, but was able to dig himself out, through sheer bloody mindedness and determination.
As for Calpernia... I dunno, a wizard did it? I got nothing! ![]()

Oh come on. I know video games often have to compress distance because having realisticly scaled maps would be unfun to travel through. But don't tell me that there wasn't meant to be at least 1 kilometer distance from Haven's gate to the overlook Samson was standing from. It's pretty hard to spot details on people from that distance.
"How do you know, Cullen?"
"I just saw his facebook update" [flashes Iphone]
I dunno. Cullen seems like an Android kinda guy.

It is a stretch of course, it's a game, but no you don't need to see details, such as a face, to recognize someone you are very familiar with, plus details is the last thing your brain registers physiologically speaking (just saying).
"Currently burning Haven LOLZ."
*Cory and Calpernia liked this*
Cullen: Why am I still facebook friends with these people? I still haven't removed Meredith either...
Inquisitor: Why not?
Cullen: To cheer me up whenever I need a laugh, her last update had her relationship status listed as... "Rocky".

Inquisitor: Geez, Cullen, Facebook is so 9:35. You need an Instagram.
Varric: Curly, you should see the Arishok's last twitter update, "Currently reading: How to get ahead in Kirkwall"... I guess he took that title literally.
On topic, it's possible that since Haven wasn't covered by the first avalanche triggered, Samson/Calpernia were too near to be caught in it and Corypheus ordered them to leave while he took on the Inquisitor alone (with his dragon as backup), so that's why they weren't caught in the second avalanche that covered Haven?
Then again, we also have that quest from Krem that has the Chargers scout out the ruins to see if there are any survivors from either side, so that infers that at least some Red Templars or Venatori survived getting buried by the snow?
(And off-topic, Sera would totally use tumblr and repost porn and support for various causes, Cassandra would have never moved on from her myspace account and Vivienne would have a fashion tips and etiquette show on Blip, one that she refuses to call by so common a term as "Vlog")

I guess thats possible. Maybe we're not supposed to read much into it anway ![]()
