I think I've seen people speed run DA:I in like 7 hours or so (which I found pointless btw. I'd rather take my time and enjoy the adventure really, but I guess people have different tastes). Personally, all my playthroughs sit around 50 - 70 hours, with an almost completetionist run hitting 140 hour.

But the point eludes me.

There's a DA:O speedrun of less than 40 minutes.
But the point eludes me.
There's a sub-hour speed run of Skyrim as well.
DAI being 3 hours shows what an expansive game it is - that's long for a speed run.

first plathrough just to get an idea on the game's story and classes took bout 90 hours. 2nd playthrough is at 150 hours so far where im completing everything. it's a fairly lon game if your goal is to do 100% of the game, if you do just the story and a few side stuff ehh maybe 50-60 hours is my guess, others have prolly done it in less. It really just depends on the person if you ask me.

I was planning on leaving Hinterlands, but just want to finish off those pesky Templars, maybe complete the farm. What's the difference at this point.

My turn.
My first game was on the "Hard Difficulty" I can't remember what the exact name for it is, but its the one between Normal and Nightmare. It took me a little over 100 hours to complete the game while missing a couple of the items (3 Mosaic Pieces - 2 are bugged, 1 Zone Discovery, and a couple of bottles).
I am currently playing on Nightmare and at about 90 hours, but I have walked away from the game and forgot to save and exit so its definitely a bloated time for that run.
As far as others have said there are many zones in the game so don't focus on clearing one out before moving to another, leave when you start to grow tired of where you are. There are a couple of zones that have different level hunting ranges so you will need to move on before completing them, but you can always go back.

What the heck are people doing to hit 200 hours???? That's insane to me. I completed the game in 78 hours, having done all quests and table missions, clearing all zones, reading all codex entries, taking my time gathering materials and crafting, and I did it all by walking, having never used a mount. I can't even imagine what I would do for another 100 hours!?
A couple things got me to 200 hours.
First, I have a bad sense of direction. I go in circles. Look Elfroot! More Elfroot! Where am I goin- ELFROOT!
I could spend twenty minutes trying to climb up different areas on a rock face only to realize that I need to go around the damn thing. (Why am I doing this? For a pointless shard? Ugh.)
I keep running around Skyhold trying to talk to companions who have nothing new to say to me. (I think Vivienne talked to me maybe two times once I got to Skyhold....I'm guessing it's a approval thing. Otherwise, I barely felt like Vivienne even mattered in this game. She was almost irrelevant. Anyway, back on topic....)
Main reason....I actually fell asleep playing a couple times. I think that added quite a few hours. I should also add that I say that I have never fallen asleep playing a video game. I was either really bored, or I'm getting old. Probably both.
Granted, I will never put 200 hours into this game again. It....was not worth it. Overleveled to the point that the end game was pathetically easy. I don't recommend completionist playthroughs. It's not a rewarding experience. If the only thing you have left is finding those last two mosaic pieces (again, not worth it), you should probably just quit.

35 minutes that's a shining example of how many glitches DA:O has actually.

I bought this at release, but have waited due to technical issues on how it ran my system, (well sort of, I did mess around with a couple of characters a little bit), to play till now. I have started a mage on hard, and I am clearing and doing everything in the first area, Hinterlands. I have like 6 hours played on this one mage (judging by the time in saves). It seems like I might be halfway done with stuff in the hinterlands.
I assume that there are many more areas like the Hinterlands based on that first map. I like completing everything that I find naturally, and I am obsessive about harvesting. I am kind of surprised at how much time I am spending in this one area only.
Will I out level other areas by completing one area at a time, and should I be moving on to other areas?
My first playthrough took 140 hrs but I did everything I could plus I got lost in one of areas in Emprise Du Lion.

I'm on my first playthrough still (young kids will do that to you) and I've logged in 91 hr's with what I estimate being 2/3 of the game (4 main missions left [based on achievements]/ maybe 2 Areas left to clear and a few companion sidequests (3-4))
I suspect on different playthru's I'll be able to streamline to around 60-70 hrs (knowing puzzles, skipping superfluous stuff etc.)
Beating a game like this in less time than that defeat's the purpose IMO.
I will say being an over leveled Knight Enchanter, while fun can be a bit boring (currently level 20)

It took me 140 hrs to play through the first time on normal difficulty. I did most of the side quests and explored a lot. I am in my second play through still on normal difficulty but with a different character and choices and am up to 60 hrs with 3 areas still to explore. I admire players who say hard and nightmare levels are easy. I tried playing on hard and got tired of constantly getting killed however I don't use the tactical map. I prefer to hack and slash myself rather than letting the game do it for me.

This. Plus I spent a lot of time crafting, flipping through inventory screens, unattaching upgrades, reattaching upgrades, crafting *more* upgrades, shopping, changing Dorian's clothes, staring at the ocean etc., etc.

I try to search every area and do all the stuff I can but I am still getting the end game in 65 hours at level 21 to 23. As to the Hinterlands, once I reached 6 or 7 I went to pick up the rest of the gang then jumped between Fallow Bog, storm coast, and hinterlands measuring every spot I could get to and I get out of those areas at lvl 11. My biggest failing is getting quest three lvls lower that my level so as I don't get much exp for it.
But don't follow my example I am the worse player ever and the worse luck ever.

I moved around more now. It seems like a bit of game failing to offer all of this, and not have enemy level autoscaling.
