companions and map immersion

Also I'd love love love if they brought a dog companion back to keep, and give special gear and such. Maybe in a dlc? But I'd love a hound to go scouting in the hinterlands with. who knows, maybe a bear or dragonling too, I'd certainly pay for the options.

Please consider that your teammates are often useless as it is, do you really want another useless companion? The character modeling and behaviors are bad enough, lets get those up to par. I really think you would get more out of advanced NPC behaviors like:
- Approach a lock and the rogue in your party says "let me take a look..." and goes to it automatically -no micromanagement.
- Sending Sera out to hunt (cloth and Leather) or pick a few pockets (gold and loot) and use her scouting to open up new areas (more loot for crafts).
- Sending Souls to look for ruins, maybe with Dagna -new quests (Fade materials and new schematics)
- Sending Varric out for Dwarven ruins (quests and various ores) and merchants (shop boons)
- Sending Vivianne out for Mage and Orlais boons
Of course when team members are out -they are not available for missions, but you could follow them -watching the NPC find its way can be fun -they can also be very helpful in diagnosing game errors in path finding.
As for the beacons they could be improved, there are times that the beacon is not visible and it can't be used in some dungeons, but many of those dungeons need improved or completed maps and NPC travel -too often the "teammates" get stuck - pathfinding errors.
Take care
