Hi everybody!

I'm having a problem with Origin when I play Mass Effect 3. I can't open it while I'm in the game and this happens only with ME3. I can't chat and I can't invite friends when I play multiplayer. If I try to invite someone in a lobby, it says that I must be connected with Origin in order to invite people. As I said, it happens only with ME3. Does anybody else have the same problem? Any solutions?

Did you disable "Origin in Game"? Could be the problem.

No, it's not disabled. If that was the problem, it shouldn't work in another games, while in my case it works except in ME3

I had a similar problem (I think, i only use origin for Me3)

I haf to enable the option that of the origin for "all games", or even unsupported games and things like that.

Also if you have your game in your steam library, you need to remove it before applying these changes for them to work :)

The option is already active, otherwise origin wouldn't work for other games (like Inquisition). It doesn't work only when I try to open it in ME3.

What does it mean to remove it from the Steam library? I play it through Origin.

I had my Mass effect in my steam ibrary, that way i could use the steam overlay, and all the goodies it comes with. But if you don't have that then i don't know what to say, sorry man :(

Origin in Game can be sensitive to how you run the game. Some people have had success by switching ME3 to run in a borderless window instead of fullscreen, which is the default.

I had the same problem over the last weeks. Turned out that the origin overlay refused to work together with the MSI Afterburner Overlay. Since I start ME3 first, alt+tab out from the main menu and start MSI Afterburner while ME3 is allready running, everything works fine for origin standarts...

So OP if you have a similar program running that has its own overlay, a change in the starting order maybe fixes your problem as well.

So, monicasubzero, did you work out a fix to get Origin to function for you?

So, monicasubzero, did you work out a fix to get Origin to function for you?

I decided to run ME3 in window mode, so that I can at least press the Windows button to reply to chat messages. It was really disappointing that I couldn't use the chat, because I don't like to use the mic and the chat is the only way I have to communicate with my friends while I'm playing the multiplayer!

At least you found a working solution, if not optimal. On the plus side, the game seems to run slightly faster in window mode than in fullscreen mode.

Origin, pls.

I'm still having problems with this BS. Doesn't work when I play Titanfall, and I've tested it with ME3 and a few other origin games and still nothing. Is it just me or does it seem like everytime EA releases an Origin patch they fix this problem only to break it again with next patch after that? It's a constant cycle....EA pls.

Mine never used to work when I had afterburner running. I switched PCs now and don't have afterburner anymore and origin in game works again. If you have any kind of anything running that puts up an overlay it can mess with origin in game.

AFAICT, if you have any kind of overlay running (Afterburner, Cortex, Fraps are all known problem causers, for example)  it WILL stop Origin In Game from working. I'd be interested to hear of any exceptions, though.

There is a problem with origin v9.5 release. I have noticed that It wont work with ME3 regardless of whether other overlay softwares like after bunrer or fraps are running or not. In order to fix it for me I had to update to beta version of origin by changing the beta participation option in origin settings and after that close other overlay software and then run origin and ME3. After the game is loaded and is in main menu I alt tab and start after burner.

I found that my origin in game works if I turn off my razer software.

Origin in game is an Abom needs to be disabled in all supported games, it might come with some conveniences, but not worth the risk, trust me.

If you really want to chat in ME3 without alt-tab, there's a simple workaround: enable in-game console and use "say" command to chat with your friends.

@OP: Have you tried reinstalling ME3?

I was having the exact same issue, then read the post about Afterburner. I exited out of afterburner overlay, and now it works! Hope this helps someone else. If your recording, I recommend using Shadowplay from Nvidia. I have it on all the time and don't have issues with Origin in game. (If your experiencing issues with Frapps.)

There are quite a lot of softwares that aren't compatible with origin. Most of them are the ones that have an overlay of their own i.e MSI After Burner, EVGA Precision, Steam Overlay, Raptr GEV etc but even some anti-virus and firewall (comodo firewall) also cause the issue of ingame overlay of lolorigin not work properly in ME3.

Solution to overlay not appearing with the overlay softwares is to exit them launch origin run ME3 and then run those softwares after ME3 has launched and you get the enable overlay pop up by pressing Shift+F1. In case of comodo firewall only solution I could find was to uninstall it and use some other firewall.

Tinywall or Online Armor both works OK and don't mess with origin  ingame overlay.

I started this frustrating topic some time ago and I had another problem in the meanwhile: none of the games in the library were starting if Origin was active in game.

Recently an Origin update fixed both the issues, meaning that Origin can be opened in game and I can finally use the chat! Yey! ^_^

Thank you NOO3TASTIC,  I couldn't find a solution to this problem and after seeing your post it turns out it was RAPTR (junkware that came with my ATI card) that was breaking origin in game.  Uninstalled and it works now.
