Get this guy to advise you or do the mo-cap:
Reality >>> fantasy
I'd love to see that. I'd much rather see warriors & rogues use realistic techniques than some of the more outlandish comic book/anime style moves we've seen throughout the series.
Video games are still stuck in Hollywood tropes on this issue. Eventually a dev will get it right. I suppose animating these moves according to hit boxes would be tricky. Visually, it could get confusing for the player.
Most of the time devs don't really care since the vast majority of players aren't even going to notice that it's wrong unless it's really over the top, in which case it's probably an intentional animation choice.
should play more DA:I today.
In less than hour I've played it I'm disappointed I can't switch between companions and that Hair and Eye Color is so unstable. For now DA:I is 8/10, it may go lower or higher but it's unlikely!

The point is - look at how GOOD that looks. This is all real-life techniques and moves and it looks BETTER than the ballet crap you see in the movies or games.
At best we get some games which do involve some of these techniques and animations - i.e Dark Souls, Kingdom Come, Witcher etc.
I'd just like to see another CRPG that animates things like dodges and blocks like NWN did.

Yeah for a long time I have wanted more realism in combat out of rpgs. I think the witcher will be pretty good on this front(tho still not as much as i want) and also, kingdom come deliverance.
My hopes for this game are very high. If the system they build works we may see elements of it in other rpgs, like perhaps in elder scrolls or other franchises old and new.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance always struck me as the game that'd improve on Mount & Blade gameplay.
That makes me ridiculously excited.

Bioware needs more reactivity, they are seriously lacking in that aspect. Also,

I hope Bioware ups the romance in the next rpg. There really needs to be more character interaction and romantic alternatives. Enhanced character design with more options there as well would really be neat. If they would shift the focus away from tedious hack 'n slash and place on the really interesting stuff that would be awesome.
u wot m8? i swer u are one cheeky c**t mate, say it to my face and not online and we'll see what happens. i swer 2 christ I'll hook you in the gabba. you better shut your mouth or im calling me homeboys rite now preparin for a proper rumble. tha rumble thatll make your nan sore jus hearin bout it. yer in proper mess ya nob head.
srsly tho, romance is the least important part of bioware games. The vast majority of the time is spent in combat, so this is way more important.

To you (and me). Mouse likes what she likes, so combat isn't even close to being the most important part of a game for her, despite the frequency in which it appears in most games.
I don't see what the big deal is with her asking BioWare to give her what she wants just because it's not the feature you'll spend the most time on.

We disagree about what is important, obviously. I value romance and you value fighting.I'm ignoring the chest thumpery. You will win any such contest and its not important to me at all.
Your right. That was wrong of me to dismiss the romances. To be clear though, the first part of that post is a joke.
I can see how to implement complex combat in a relatively simple way.
Swordplay - combat - is a series of stances and position. From each you have a set number of moves you can make. So it's basically a database of moves and position, and the AI simply goes trough it.
Higher level/skill = more appropriate moves are picked.
I don't have an image, but imagine a tree graph. The root is a stance and the branches are moves available from that branch. You have many such trees, but following the branches leads you to a root of another tree.

Wait, do you mean mocapped romance scenes? ![]()
More seriously, more interactions and possibilities are always welcome. As for fighting animations, Bioware needs to improve their animations, period. It's not just combat that looks bad.
I even prefer DA:O gameplay to DA:I for Sword'n'Shield class. All I'm doing is focusing to smash my mouse left button with correct aiming on target...

Am i the only one who wants Bioware to take a stab at a post apocalyptic RPG?
Jimmy im ashamed off you.
hideosly deformed radioactine monters whit leporesy need love to.
Ghouls need sex too!
Please no over-emphasis on one-on-one combat animations. I'd much rather have reliable hitboxes and a decent tactical overview than some "realistic" animations I'd get bored of after repeated battles.
They can go crazy with cutscenes, though.
