I have a lot of save files, and stripping mods from skyrim can be destructive for them. I was using 254 mods, I'm currently using 251 mods (with my new characters), the thing that really bugs me, is that skyrim was stable, now it's a mess. I've been using this exact load order for over a year, and my game settings for something like 3 years, and I've only had issues the last 5 months or so, just before DA:I was released.

could be many things.. One of the most in Skyrim, is your save size... Once it gets beyond that 10gig mark, that game becomes unplayable.. Also, your hardware could be dying.. Dust in your fans, under your vid card, etc... 250mods is a WHOPPING amount.. I cant imagine none of them arent not conflicting in some way, shape, or form.. Some of them kick in, and dont really cause issue until theyre activated.. Dungeon mods for example.. If they have quests that are in similar locals.. Any skeleton mods, you cannot have 2 of.. Realistic ragdols and force vs dual sheathe redux, or any number of the animation change mods will conflict.. Again, not necessarily upon start, somehtin can trigger it at a certain point, or any random trigger..

Do you have NMM? If so, is it on auto update? do you have any mods set to auto update?

@MatrixGirl  I'll probably start off with a build like this.  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JXYG6h

I have a laptop I do all of my work on so I generally dislike spending a lot on something that will be primarily used for gaming only.  I don't really see myself as a hardcore gamer anyhow.. more of a casual.

If you go with WD for HD make sure it is the black edition, not the blue or green edition :-)

The black edition has 64MB of cache on it, the green edition is a bad drive and the blue edition is ok, but far from the black edition :-)

I was just looking at the Witcher 3 recommended requirements. It's really not that harsh as I originally thought.

Intel i5 4460 3.2 ghz or AMD FX 8150

Nvidia GTX 760 or AMD R9 280

8 gigs of ram

DX 11

Heck, I even hit the minimum specs.

Intel i5 2500k 3.3 ghz or AMD Phenom II X4 940

Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD HD 7870

6 gigs of ram

DX 11

Cool! So my humble GTX 760 would hold up A OK after all. :) Maybe I'll push myself to get further through the first one in hopes that the dialogue cringe factor fades into the background. :)

Also, Peregrinus, I have decided to dub thee Skyrim Sensai. Please make a note in your sig to this effect, you legend you!  Downloading MOAR mods as per your suggestions. :)

Oh and- complete divergence from current topic BUT... remember when we had the Sci Fi reminiscence? Did we mention V?  I don't think we did, but we should have. And not just because of Marc Singer in those jeans, *pause for fond reflection* remember the hybrid twins? The guinea pig scene? All of it? :)

I guess the most recent change at the time was a windows update, though, iirc the timing would be a bit off, it was a while before... anyway, I just started falskaar (spelling?) with a test character, decided I needed some fun, not just crash-testing, so I've noticed that the entire falskaar landscape seems to be about 100X more stable than skyrim, the added DG or dragon born landscapes. that means something, though what specifically... I haven't a clue.

---edit
I am using nmm, haven't seen a better mod manager yet, after 4 years that says something.

I completely agree with you there.. I'm somewhat iffy on the blue and green editions anyhow.  :)

Sheesh. Thanks!  :)  I just modded a lot back in the day. I probably tinkered more with modding then actually playing the game, and I did a whole lot of that.. lol   And V was pretty awesome.. I was sad when they cancelled the remake because it was quite good.  :)

You don't happen to use Monster mod, Skytest animals and predators, or Deadly dragons, do you?

I use skytest, and DD.

---edit
those never occurred to me, they've always been quite stable, or at least it seemed like it. and they add so much realism to skyrim...

---edit again
I guess for the dragons it's not exactly realism, but more realistic habits and tactics, or something. sorry I've taken muscle relaxers, and I'm a tad tipsy.

I've never found Skytest to be reliably stable. I could never figure out what it was conflicting with but it does.  Some days it would be fine, and the next day, CTD.  As for deadly dragons, it was perfectly stable til they started adding things. Unsure which version started to make my build unstable but it did. Once again, a conflict I couldn't isolate. Once I removed skytest, deadly dragons and monster mod,  I had a very stable game.   You are right though. I really did love skytest.  :)

I think my sig suits my current persona.

---edit
think i'll start a new test character, so I can see if skyrim is more stable without skytest and DD, though seeing as I've played falskaar for several hours without a single ctd, it looks promising.

Make yourself a sexy elf just to spite Bioware lol! I'd say 'like I did', but we all know that spiting Bioware was only a tiny part of my reasoning when I made mine,m so why bother with the pretense. ;)

So I created two possible theoretical gaming budget builds. Both are under $600.  Which do you think would be better?

Intel: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HQWRhM

AMD:  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BPqnFT

as a matter of fact... I did.

@ peregrinus your tips seem to have worked, as skyrim appears to be playing nice, though the real test is to see if it's the same after a few days, well, anyway... thanx.

np, anything really script heavy or anything that alters areas a great deal has a tendency to bring with it some instability.

wish it wasn't skytest & deadly dragons... really wish it wasn't. I've been using them for years, and now they don't seem to like me anymore. oh, the humanity! :crying:

Terrible news MatrixGirl!

The new Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan X is said to be up to 34% faster than the GTX 980. Now you need to upgrade! :P ;)
