GODzilla the GTX 960 is cheap and can be over clocked easy :-)
MG, I think he is prepping for Witcher 3. If he goes Nvidia, he has to get GTX970 or 980 to have it be a worthwhile investment and it's just not in his budget to do that. GTX960 is great for now but the 2 gigs of ram will not be so good for Witcher 3 or any other game that's coming out that will very likely use 4 gigs of vram or more. So anything that utilizes Unity 5, Unreal Engine 4 and the new Cryengine which is essentially almost everything coming out.

Just to show you that it just won't cut it when Witcher 3 comes out.

Not too surprising actually. Titan has more memory but 980 has higher memory speed, higher pixel rate and more output processors.

and since you have the Asus 980, it's clocked even higher both in memory and gpu cores.

If you were crunching scientific data , or doing 3D rendering; the Titans would show their strength due to it's higher floating point numbers and 800 additional shaders. It just lacks behind in games.

It seems that perhaps the monster spiders in our fantasy games aren't quite as fantastic as one might assume.
Moral of the story, don't go prowling for cryptids on youtube.

Hi guys, I'm not much into tech stuff but do I have to change my 770 republic of gamers or something for the Witcher 3?
DAI ran -if such a word can be used to describe this game- well, on ultra (no fade touched for me).

to quote an old school morrowind mod "spiders, spiders... why is it always spiders? how come no one tries to conquer the world with an army of fluffy bunnies?"

Going to need an upgrade for TW3, currently still using my rather well-spent AMD Radeon HD 6870, which still works, but aging. Will keep as spare, but it's time to boost performance, need smoother FPS on new games. Star Citizen too.
Looking at the r9 270X, however I would prefer the r9 290x - but unsure if my motherboard can support it. The PC is 3 yrs old, only changed the power pack, but either than that, it's still running smoothly and reliably.
What would you guys suggest?

Steam is evil. And I should stop popping in for 'just a look' on the weekends, at least until after I've played all the games in my library. Damn them and their really good sales!

Why don't you settle for a R9 280X ?
Well, to quote the american rebells during their fight against the english: 4 gigs or death! ![]()
GODzilla the GTX 960 is cheap and can be over clocked easy :-)
And it's **** lol. I mean it's hardly faster than my GTX 760. I want a considerable boost, otherwise it makes no sense to upgrade.

Then get a 970 ,if you are not into 4K gaming that card rocks :-)
It can take anything you throw at it or the 980 but that is lots of coins :-)

There are a few reasons that speak against it:

5% slower than a GTX 980 reference card :-)
And much cheaper
DX12 supposedly will let you turn dual 2gig cards into a 4gig card :-)
But go for it get a 980, and you will be on top :-)
I do not know what your budget is
980 is the way to go, with passive cooling as in silent running ;-)
You could also ask DisturbedJim he is also a hardware guru :-)
Btw the 960 is at least 30% faster than your 670 :-)

Those are AMD bull crap story :-)
The 970 is still a great card even with the 3.5 Gig of VRAM:-)
And it still kicks butt :-)
Lots of people have them and it would be a major increase over what you got now for less coins :-)
And sorry but you do not do 4K playing hence there is no problems with the 970 :-)

And you can get one cheap from an idiot who returned it because they listened to the hype :-)
Maybe an open box version :-)
970 great
980 top of the line more coins :-)

Yest there will also be. 980TI with 6 gig of VRAM
It will put the Titan X to shame :-)
But that is coming out in fall this year :-)
Nvidia does not want to release it now because no one would buy the Titan X :-)

Thank you some not paranoid :-)
Yes the 980 is kick ass, but the 970 are also kick ass cards :-)
The hype by they is only present certain games at 4K for the 970
ME2 was an amazing game played it 12 times :-)
