@Jackal19851111 I think you should go for R9 290 or GTX970. What motherboard do you have?

I plan to continue with AMD, using a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P, with PCI-E 2.0 port

I looked online and it said the R9 290 would "fit", but with like a 5% performance decrease when using a PCI-E 2.0 port instead of 3.0

That's a very minimal loss in performance. :)

If I were going to run a Xeon, I'd swallow my penny pinching soul for a short moment and run two. lol.

I actually thought about grabbing one of those refurbished HP Xeon workstations off Amazon for $350 , and then throwing in a decent video card to game on.

My understanding of the TitanX is that it is a two GPU card, despite the appearance.  It, supposedly dedicates a GPU to each eye in 3D and is optimized for the new 1080p 3D headsets.  I'm not sure how much of that announcement was factual and how much was marketing, but the announcement was pretty specific. That would mean two GM207's or GM204's, vice one GM210 of any description. Supposedly, the first card that will use any version of the GM210 is the 980Ti in June. Nvidia is far too coy about their plans. The buying public would be better served by more info. There are also two different versions of the 960Ti in the pipeline for a Junish release.  That's about all the info I have, for certain values of the tem "have".

On a side note, the only non-Maxwell GTX's remaining in the NVidia shipping queue are the Titan Black and the TitanZ.

So, Nvidia is releasing 960TIs.. I wasn't sure they were going to do that.. 4 gig cards ?

I don't recall the exact specs. There were two price points, but, frankly, I don't think there will be two cards. I think they are waiting for AMD to announce.  They want to play gotcha, when they could be serving their customers, instead. That's my feeling.

Yes. That's one of the sources I used. The rumors of this and that from NVidia and AMD are allover the place, but until something actually ships, I take it all with a grain or two of salt.
