PC-hardware is tougher than one would think. As long as you don't drop the 1.2 kg card into the case like a bomb you'll be fine. xD The cables are trivial, too. I think it's really impossible to mix up the connectors. The only tricky part is all the stuffing and tightening of the cables. My sincere thanks to the person who invented cable ties. :D

Yeah, it's pretty hard to screw anything up these days. Cable ties are great, although a decade ago, I used electrical tape and duct tape.   :)

I have avoided modular power supplies in the past, but my next one will be a fully modular unit.  Just getting that tangle of unused cables out of the back side of my case is worth the risk. The split cable wraps that you can buy in a big bag at your local automotive parts store will help the mess as you can put tape directly on them without putting it on a cable or cable sheath you may need later.

Be it modular or not, the quality of it is the most important I think.  My evga psu isn't modular but it was painless to do cable management on. 80+ bronze or higher and you should be golden.

On a different note, I've finally managed to come up with an excuse to buy the case I've been wanting but was too cheap to purchase.  The down side is that it's, once again, "the last computer case I'll ever need. (TLCCIEN)"   I've been toying with the TLCCIEN concept for too many years. The Lian-Li A79B has only ten or twelve warts, according to how you count them.  But the biggest wart is the $319 price.  I'd be paying a premium for some "features" I don't want. Oh well. Time will tell if I'm serious, this time, or is this just another hare-brained scheme with too much thinking and not enough doing? lol. I'm slowly coming around to the point where I am going to build a new system, if I can come up with an excuse. I'm so cheap.

@ManleySteele  That's a really nice case but I don't know if I would spend $300+ on something like that.

I don't know how much of that price is for the hard drive cages that I don't like. The same dislike for the "included" USB ports and other things I'd rather provide myself. I guess I should have bought a plain, high-capacity case when they were a glut on the market. Now you can't buy one at any price. All the cases available now come dressed in clown suits. It's very off-putting to me.

@ManleySteele  Maybe you should go for a basic Antec or NZXT case.

I was twittering around, earlier today and saw an invitation to beta test the Patch 7. I went through the process, up to the point where one commits to be a beta tester and backed out.  Just curiosity, since I have no intention of playing DAI anytime soon.

I have half a mind ( and I could quit, right there and be technically correct) to start modding DAI, but that means updating is out as they seem to be, right now, mutually exclusive activities.

@ManleySteele Patch 6 disrupted mods so unless you have autoupdates turned off and still using patch 5, no modding.

I could live without the mods, if just the walk-script still works. ^^ Unfortunately nobody can tell me if it does and I don't have the game installed.

yeah, I just can't fire it up without mods.  the default skyhold outfit kills it for me everytime.

@GODzirra, yes the walk toggle still works, at least on my installation.

BTW, I have to type GODzirra with my fake, Japanese accent. It's a rule.

You have my blessing to do so lol. :D

You're talking about the ingame walk toggle? I mean the script linked in my signature. It was - hopefully is - far superior to the ingame walk toggle, because it has easier buttons and features jogging, too.

Since it uses Cheat Engine, instead of DAI mod Manager, I would think you can just reapply it and go on about your business, but maybeso I'm wrong.

One of my college sons is trying to convince me I need a new gaming computer..Which translates to "Mom I want your computer".  He is in IT program at University of Cincinnati and volunteered to build the new system for me at school for a grade.  Ok I want to keep my two 27 inch monitors. I want a striped raid. I was looking at that Titan video card, and the mineral oil immersion.  I know I am going to need a large radiator to disburse all the heat in the oil, but we live in an extremely dusty area and I wanted to keep dust out.  Not just dust, fly ash from power plant dust which is waxy and worse than regular dust. My question is have any of you used the Titan card and or used oil immersion? We currently are building an NAS System for our own cloud. I will be moving my gaming site to our own cloud and making it a multi game clan rather than a single game clan. ALso so I can host some old games on our server. My clan site I run is www.theawakenedorder.guildlaunch.com.  They are changing their site and I thought it would be time to move from them hosting our guild/clan site.

I have no experience with any of the various Titans. I have no clue how involved setting up an oil emulsion system is.

Good luck with your project. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask. I'll either be able to help or not, but if you don't ask, the answer is always no.

I suspect I will be moral support more than anything else.

My Elite: Dangerous just arrived!

... since I've already downloaded the game, I think I'll leave it unopened for now.

Too busy playing Pillars of Eternity right now anyway.

Just beat Shadowrun Returns.  What a satisfying and imaginative game.  I enjoyed every moment of it and there was zero filler content.  Now, there is tons of mod adventures to go on , well as Dragonfall.  :)

@Lady Mutare  As for video cards, I think getting a GTX 980 would be more beneficial since your interest lies in gaming, and server/client type usage. Titans are better for scientific calculations, folding@home, litecoin mining, that sort of thing. Also, right now 980 destroys the titans in gaming benchmarks at half the cost.

As for mineral oil PCs, they are great for experimenting but not so great for daily driver. I would highly recommend a closed loop liquid cooled setup instead.  Let's see what the others have to say as well.

OH WTF...I wanted to try some games I always fancied but never really played...I played Shadowrun Returns for 12 hours. Gnaaah, it's 2am, I gotta sleep. :pinched:

This was all in an effort to find out if games like this are actually my thing. I was looking at Pillars of Eternity, watching reviews, unsure whether to buy it or not. Well I guess that question is answered then. =]

My biggest issue TBH is the damn dust.  No matter how often I clean the house, we are on the Ohio river in a small town between 2 power plants and we get this awful waxy dust. I have had more issues in electronics from that.  Even my sewing machines have issues. So If i build a new gaming machine I wanted to take that into account this time. Ill do more research on the 980 though.

@lady mutare
I have massive dust issues too, my intake vents usually look like the lint-trap in a washing machine after a hard days wash.

1/4 of the way through this intro thread, and counting ...  Really looking forward to some of the titles people have been suggesting -- thanks!  D:OS and POE look right up my alley, and Wasteland 2 looks like it could be pretty awesome, too.  Maybe will just throw caution to the wind and drop $40-45 (Steam) on one of those when the mood strikes.

My curiosity got the better of me, and I had to see what this Witcher thing was all about, as I've heard nothing but rave reviews.  Though I'm not really a FPS or TPS (third-person swordsman) kind of gamer, I figured $10 for W1 would be worth it to see what the buzz is about.  I'm working my way through the intro, and I gotta say it's hard to maintain the immersion with that voice acting, but I'm gonna stick with it!  I know the story's gonna blow my mind ... right?  :)

Don't mind me, I'm just feeling extra sad right now that the heretofore industry leader in cRPG production quality has released a steaming pile that I can't even play.  They've got my $70 clenched in one hand (since about a year ago) whilst holding their middle finger aloft with the other hand.  And cackling -- that's the worst part.  If I'da known I'da given my money to someone who really needs it.

Ok, back to the games!
