Has there been an honest review of DAI for the PC yet?

Not from anyone outside the PC Community Concerns thread here, and RPG Codex.

I just finished vanilla Mass Effect 3 for the first time. What a let-down. It actually has me a little angry.

I feel cheated.

The ending was a bit of a cop-out, but I can't say that I felt cheated, per se.  I thought it was pretty good, up until the ...

Spoiler

I mean, that's just lazy writing.  But it was cool (and sometimes a little sad) to see the outcome of all the characters based on your choices.

In any case, any small amount of disappointment I felt about ME3 pales in comparison to the blatant bait-and-switch that is DA:I.  Classic charlatanism, pure and simple.

Origins began development long before Mass Effect, but ME wound up being released first.

Im not seeing how this shows Origins being developed before ME.. My ME1 case is dated 06, with Orgins showing 09..

Development[edit]

BioWare announced Mass Effect on October 4, 2005, as an Xbox 360-exclusive game and part of a trilogy.[25][26]

In January 2007, IGN interviewed BioWare's Casey Hudson, Project Director for Mass Effect. Hudson gave IGN a lot of information about the game, including: the inspiration for the game, details on how BioWare has moved video game morality beyond simple good and evil, and information on character creation and combat.[27]

Development[edit]

Anthropomorphic "Grand Oak" or "Elder Tree" speaking with player character.

Bioware first unveiled Dragon Age: Origins at the Electronic Entertainment Expo of 2004 (E3 2004), but as only "Dragon Age".[33] Described as an epic "dark heroic fantasy,"[28]Dragon Age: Origins combines sword and sorcery[34] with anthropomorphism,[35] featuring even a playable

anthropomorphic golem named Shale.

I'm gonna have to agree wholeheartily with Cyan.. What a horrific 2015 so far.  Won't be on here too much.. exhausting trying to find a new place to live, new employment, and get my life in order.

On a side note, goto humble bundle if you wanted some older EA stuff.  https://www.humblebundle.com/

Good deal if you don't have a lot of these.

I've got all the EA titles I'm ever going to have at this point.

They'll get no more of my $$ until if/when they market an actual, working, decent, PC game again.

Until then I wouldn't "pi$$ on 'em if they wuz on fire" as the saying goes. :pinched:

Thanks to Elhanan's "encouragement", I've found a free video editing program called Open Broadcaster Software and starting tonight I am firing up Dragon Age Inquisition. I'm going to play through it and do voice over work later so I don't accidently kill the audio of actual gameplay footage.

So... off to make a video.

May 19th. I'll deliver on time.

I hear yu on 2015 Peregrinus, but then my life has been a bottomless pit of suckage since 2009 so I no longer have hopeful expectations lol! I just do things like buy puppies when i can...and all the horror fades into the cute. :)

(((hugs))) to you and Cyan during these hard times. I'd offer Akira snuggles but I'm far too selfish to share. :)

Have this instead, it's close...

ETA: Hey Cyan, feel free to use my nudiequisitor footage if you like lol! You can use it to illustrate just how bored some of us were by the vanilla game. :D  :P

For some reason, I'm geeked on ME3 MP again.  Playing Juggernaut for the first time.  Having fun charging instakill baddies.  :D

Also open to other coop MP games along the vein of ME3, if there is such a vein.  Will probably go for Star Citizen in the not-too-distant future.  Maybe next Sunday AD.  ;)

btw, notker_biloba on Steam and Origin.

Wishing strength to all of you going through a world of suck.  And I don't mean DA:I.

So, one warning post on my resume. Dang. I deserved it. I am unsure what post MOD02 is referring, but I believe her. My OCD demands it be cleared up, but I am okay with it. Not happy about about it, but I'm okay with it. I just learned a lesson from MOD02.

Anyway, let's get back to this extended eulogy...

Now beloved fans, friends, fellow Wardens and Spectres...

It seemed that Bioware had a golden touch to everything. Each title was polished, ready to go at launch and I remember agonizing when the next DLC was coming. Bioware usually left me wanting so much more, because the main offering was so great.

Then a Sith Lord disguised as an EA representative showed up with an offer neither doctor could refuse. Now before I call EA evil, I just want to let everyone know that when this went down... I cheered. I was so happy for Bioware because they no longer had to rely on investors or get stuck with the likes of Haerve Cain again at Interplay. Not anymore. They had EA. EA was known for its brilliant MVP Baseball franchise and to this day, the best major league baseball simulator ever made. EA was known for Madden NFL and FIFA. Both mega selling franchises and now they expanded into the realm of storytelling and tactical combat. They appeared like angels out of the Heavens to give the creative minds at Bioware a palette to work with that didn't have conditions attached.

EA seemed like a perfect angel to join and help Bioware expand. I was already pleased that my beloved developers had a second franchise, but the promise of even more to come excited me. However, I wasn't aware that the angels of the software universe were hated on by many in the gaming industry. Then I read about a class-action lawsuit filed by the wives of employees not getting paid overtime. Then I read about how many studios shuttered their doors after EA's acquisition. They weren't angels. They were the equivalent to a Reaper. They cultivated and then reaped whole franchises and made them into the same product over time.

Mass Effect 2 was essentially a piece-laden story where you had to buy DLC to get the complete picture. Nevermind that the game could be completed without the DLC, but the DLC didn't really add anything to the game except content that should've been already implemented. It was second helping of Bioware under EA and it left me a little disappointed.

Then Dragon Age 2. Oh... I didn't complain on this. I should've, but I was still happily in love with Bioware. EA really showed its true colors with this game. Less is more, pay more get less is all I kept seeing with Dragon Age 2. It recycled areas and the storytelling was going off into new directions that few liked. For me, I was just glad to have the franchise again, but knew that there was something seriously wrong with the tone and gameplay mechanics. The Reaping had begun. The old line of making games for PCs was now becoming a lie.

Then Mass Effect 3. Day one DLC. A dagger to those who already prepurchased the game. I had to shell out even more money at Bioware to get a complete picture with Javik who was supposed to be in the game, but unfinished at launch. So, of course, the only living Prothean was DLC and I had to buy it to complete my trilogy.

Nevermind that the story was linear and that each map was just a skirmish battle. Nevermind that the assets I kept searching for meant nothing at the end. Nevermind the fact, that we didn't have any planetary exploration (Make or Hammerhead), but just what the story dictated. Then the RGB ending. Nothing more has to be said, especially now since the Extended Cut DLC did away with that debacle. Not only did my choices not matter at the ending, but it seemed like EA wasn't willing to let the notion Commander Shepherd had done his job. No... they wanted to milk it further and they are working on that right now.

Then Star Wars: the Old Republic. Bioware was handed the Star Wars license through EA's brilliance and tried to make a World of Warcraft using George Lucas' universe. It was great. The greatest single-player MMO ever made. In that sense, I thought runs could be done using pick-up groups and I was right. I was noble Alliance Commando that wanted to put an end to the Sith threat until a bunch of teenagers blew up the Empire's Death Star. Then I hit level 50 and the sound of crickets was only heard when I checked the message boards. Every poster was calling for gloom and doom and I watched with sad interest that there was talk about going to free-to-play because the gaming population was really down. Down to just a handful of servers and the ongoing persistent issues that no one cared to fix took its toll. Then it became very apparent that it wasn't free-to-play. You had to spend some serious cash to get what you had under the Collector's Edition. Or you could get a subscription and get less credits each month unless you outright purchased them. It also became clear that you needed some serious gear to get through the high-level missions and the ONLY way was to purchase it. Not craft it, not buy it from the market, you went to EA. I pulled the plug on that expensive mess one month later.

Then Inquisition. It was a cleverly-hyped game that promised to bring Bioware back to prominence. It did to a certain extent. It was an experiment using Frostbite 3 and it was made for consoles. The gaming industry jumped all over it and it was given game of the year. Why wasn't I jumping and cheering for Bioware now? It's because I couldn't enjoy Inquisition. It was a terrible console port and it lacked the most essential control movement that Bioware had in every title except for the Mass Effect trilogy.

This eulogy is only for the present day Bioware. Not the writers, artists, programmers, level designers, audio masters, public relations crew, quality assurance testers and development wizards. No... this is for BWAmelia. This is for Mark Darrah. This is for Arryn Flynn. This is for Mike Laidlaw. You have at hands your the keys to the palace and we're not impressed. We're actually saddened that you can't lead teams to make finished products on time. You can't harness their abilities and put out whatever it takes to keep EA off your back.

I want to thank all the community members that read through this. I want to thank all the community members that did their part to try and keep Bioware on track. It failed. Our efforts may appear in later products, but I'm willing to bet it will be a case of too late. The day the two doctors resigned, is the day, Bioware died. It's a soulless husk that churns out more of the same since it can't do anything else unless it's Reaper master says its okay.

Bioware. RIP.

I tried out Pillars of Eternity yesterday.  The first half hour of that has more story then majority of DAI..  I'm loving the choose your own adventure style cutscenes? I'm not sure what to call those but very cool.  The writing on PoE is superb. The animations are rather intricate as well.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree with this standpoint- I have no illusions that EA/Bioware will suddenly "get it" and improve DA:I or change things the way it should be, but I'll be da**** if I'm going to be silent about what happened and go away just because it would be better for their marketing practices.

I'm going to get my $60 worth, one way- or another.

I just accepted I lost $90 to EA, but the loss of money stands as a good motive to boycott them. I'm over it anyway, I'm enjoying both PoE and WL2. However, I can't say either of them is as good as D:OS was. PoE lacks several features I was hoping for, but on a tactical side combat is excellent. WL2 tactical side is alright but not as polished as I hoped. Still, a load of fun with each and I'm still playing them.

I was looking at game engines and programming utilities today. I can't make my mind up. I want a 64 bit engine but I want seamless tools instead of a piece from here and a piece from there.  I'm such a nudge.
