I really, REALLY want to see what they've done with the rad scorpions this time round though Jackal lol! The mole rats are so awesome and the first Deathclaw... o.O

How intense was that first meeting with the ghoul? They are so fast now lol! Actually scary this time round. I got mobbed by a few of them on my way to Lexington...I was glad to have Codsworth along then I can tell you. :D

I left my power armour back at Sanctuary because I didn't want to run out of juice before I knew how to make more and I am really missing it right now- there is so much stuff here in Lexington that Codsworth can't carry any more and neither can I. I fonly i had the PA ... lol! Seriously, I'm on a 'radiant' and therefore random Minuteman quest right now and you might not get the same one so heads up- the Corgeva manufacturing plant in Lexington has a ton of gears/flanges etc on the factory floor. It's well worth a trip- it's  is also crawling with nasty Raiders though so step lightly and aim true!

God I am loving this game!

Thankfully radscorpions no longer poison you aside from rads, just take up a ton of HP if they hit you - and they hit you multiple times when they get close. Hard to kill too, their vulnerability is their face but it's hard to target especially how fast it is and how it burrows into the ground whenever you actually have a good line of fire.

The enemies are quite fast in general I found, you can't strafe/circle strafe anymore, you need to sprint out of the way! Better this way though, it's more intense. I like it. Ghouls are so funny though, especially when they lose their arms.

I'm out of juice already on my power suit, because I mistaken my Fusion Cells (ammo) for Fusion Cores... *sigh*

One thing I disagree with when it comes to the reviews is that some say that the building/crafting innovations are "forgotten" during gameplay, but it's so much a part of the game and you actually FEEL like a post-apocalyptic survivor, scavenging for parts and nothing is junk.

Hair physics really helps with the immersive and I'm really loving the smooth animations - no longer a floating gun head - there's inertia. But darn it, we need holstered weapons, argh!!! Needs a hardcore mode too, anyway diving back in!

Sure you can use VATs, but considering how you need to sprint to avoid getting hit in melee (which costs AP), it's harder to use VATs against those enemies.

Overall I'm having fun, but I would lower my expectations if I was you Jim. Coming into FO4 from SC...

If I was to describe the experience so far I would say "diamond in the rough", like Skyrim was.

It's getting bombed on metacritic, but I reckon it's just fans coming from a modded Skyrim/Fallout to this. For me I'm used to Bethesda by now.

Still waiting for SC to be worthwhile playing myself, bit too arcade for me right now and I've bought the only ship I intend to in the start package. The social module was fun when I gave it a go though and I'm really looking forward to S42 when it finally gets released. Is Star Marine out yet?

V.A.T.S is slow motion now Peregrinus, not time stop...it makes a BIG difference lol! Especially when fighting the Deathclaw in Concord when you're just level 3 lol!

I don't understand all the hate on Metacritic, I just don't get where the complaints are coming from-  but maybe because I've just come off a modded FNV and this is still a huge step up all round. I REALLY don't get the bitching about it being samey...imagine how freaking thrilled  we'd all have been if DA:I was really just a much better looking DAO? lol! Dream come true instead of dream pulverised.

Some of the 'streamlining' is a bit meh, like removing weapon decay and yeah visible holstered weapons, but other than that...it's great imo. I see a pretty nicely polished diamond myself Jackal. :)

Even Akira is getting hooked!

Star Marine is coming along alot faster now its out of the hands of Illfonic and being doing in house at the CIG Frankfurt Studio staffed by alot of the people who created the CryEngine :-) some of Star Marine will be folded into the upcoming 2.0 that was shown at CitizenCon this year if you saw it here's the video link if you didn't :https://www.youtube....h?v=IehITxsK4Fs

its a large map that if I recall is over 1 trillion km squared with no loading screens, one of the stations will be setup as a "dedicated FPS" area with backer feedback being rolled into Star Marine, out of curiosity when you say its "arcadey" are you using a HOTAS/Gamepad?M+kb ? and are you flying with G-Safe/ComStab etc on or off ?

There is quite a marked difference between assists on and assists off XD

Oh... is the PU out then? Last time I flew it was still a matter of keeping between the markers- that's what I meant by arcadey, a very limited area to free fly/ Vanduul swarm in or the races. If the Pu has been done then that is a different story!

Last time I played you had to use  kb/m to get out of the hangar on the flight tutorial...

TW3's release quality is my standard for a "polished diamond" ;)

You're very lucky to run it no problems, I wish I could say the same.

I don't reckon it deserves to be bombed on metacritic however, but I did expect it -> as Bethesda has been releasing games like this for a long time, I understand that many are getting frustrated.

Also why months ago I was more hyped about XCOM 2 than Fallout 4, knowing Bethesda, and lowered my expectations accordingly. It's their easy-to-use toolsets and modding community that sells it for me though - so I'll always be a Bethesda fan until they decide to lose a huge fanbase and say "no more mods" lol

@Lunafancy  Why are you picking on a Deathclaw at level 3?!   :)

Haha! It was picking on ME, Peregrinus! :)  I had no choice in the matter- had to clear Concord of Hostiles and it was roaming the streets. It's kind of an attack on sight critter lol! :(

Well, I'll grant you that the visuals were more polished in TW3 Jackal, (but who would expect graphics like that from vanilla Bethesda...mind you they should be more than a little ashamed of themselves that people have this ingrained leniency) but the writing in TW3...awful! Cringey and uncomfortable, so not very polished there at all.

At least I can play through the less than spectacular textures...not so the scripting in TW3. If it were a book (and I know they are books but I mean if I were reading the words in the game script)  I'd throw it against the wall in disgust, instead I shuddered and closed it down. So potato potahto on that one I guess.

No bugs for me to date, though if I sasy that too many times I'll be cursing myself with something huge and gamebreaking no doubt lol!

@Lunafancy  The book is actually well written but I suppose it's difficult to translate to a video game dialogue especially when it's in polish. There are the english translations but I don't think they are up to par.

Oh I know the books are supposed to be good and I don't doubt that, just the game script was awful imo.  I wanted to like it because of the graphics and the monsters but in the end I just couldn't take it any more lol! Also I had zero interest in getting Geralt laid and found the emphasis on that puerile at best. Different strokes and all that eh?

Now FO4 this is my kind of game... even if I'm forced to have a child I don't want! :)

Am I the only person that likes the animations in FO4? What don't people like about it?

I was getting really tired of the lack of inertia in all previous Bethesda titles. In fact, it was the first 'sell' for me when I saw the preview months ago.

Also I'm hoping Bethesda patches in holstered weapons rather than waiting for a mod. It would take a year. Using the creation engine if it's not already inbuilt into the game system the only way that I know possible based on past experience in the engine is by making apparels of each weapon mesh (which maybe tough with all the weapons mods), and assigning a script (argh... still using the papyrus system) to equip it during weapons holstering. Performance heavy, potentially buggy, and long process to mod, rather than Bethesda just making a hardcode themselves and adding this missing feature.

But I dunno... will have to see.

I'm a fan too Jackal- except for the voice sync or rather the utter lack of it lol! The movement animations are great though. You should head over to the Fallout 4 reddit if you want to feel the love for the game... I've been hanging out there for a couple of months enjoying the countdown to release. Lots of love for the game over there.

... oooooooook guys, I just changed FO4's preset to Ultra, and got a HUGE FPS GAIN (!?!!!) and stutters miracolously disappeared, and graphics now actually look next-gen.

The advanced graphics tab, has two broken elements I found thus far: texture quality, and god rays.

If you have stutters/bad textures/pixelated outline using AMD, click "Ultra" preset then work your way down one by one. For some reason, low/medium presets seem to increase stuttering for me. Anyway thats what I found through testing thus far... articles been released saying the texture quality is the same medium/high/ultra but from my findings its just the advanced graphics tab that's broken it seems.

Ah Bethesda... Bethesda never changes, still it's good to have the game looking great and running smoothly finally.

Hehehe... Bethesda never changes... nice one lol! I optimised mine in GeForce Experience and it looks even better, never had jaggie etc myself. Glad you've got yours running well now- there's so much to enjoy!

I'm trying to decide whether r not to join BOS... I think I'm going to merc around for a bit first though. Too much to see and do to be tied down to a faction right now. Might leave that for another playthrough. I'll go find MaCready and make this a merc run I think...

Oh, that's right, there's that kid thing I'm meant to be doing as well lol! Built myself a house woot!

Jim, I saw the S42 cast announcement when it happened, then I decided to abandon SC and NMS in favour of FO4 hype and lost track of it all. I'll be stoked when they announce a release date, until then I have the wasteland.

Companion system is very good for vanilla, they seemed to have learnt from FNV as well as the best companion mods of Skyrim such as Inigo, companions have lots of commentary and are quest aware. Pathfinding abit annoying, and the melee companions tend to get into your line of fire, but they feel alot more alive now.

Had a great session, will do it again tomorrow and all weekend. Also checking out the mods on nexus already! Not many but promising!

The creation kit comes out in April (I think April, maybe March but around that time) so the mods should explode about then. I have to admit I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with, I plan to be playing the game for a very, very long time. Wonder who they'll nude up first lol!

I'm glad you're enjoying it too Jackal! :D

ETA: Just checked Nexus, there's already a nudie female pc mod lol! And an ENB already? Lord these people move fast!

Just checked Nexus, there's already a nudie female pc mod lol

Of course there is, it's the first mod to expect lol

High-res eyes too!

http://www.nexusmods...out4/mods/133/?

And wow, some folks can really make a pretty face:

http://www.nexusmods...out4/mods/193/?

And OMFG!

http://www.nexusmods...out4/mods/128/?

:D

Might try them later.

Also considering its the same engine (could also be a reason why they are sticking to the creation engine), the file structure is very similar, experienced modders from earlier titles can easily get into it, even without the creation kit. They will be unofficial tools released until the GECK renders them obsolete. Modders are incredible in this community.

My most anticipated mod that I'm waiting for - or patch - is weapons on back/holstered weapons for me. For now I'm getting used to just walking around with my weapon out, besides the character lowers it automatically anyway when not in danger, so it's swallowable. Also having some issues with the LOD textures, sometimes they don't load the high-res ones but it's running very, very smooth and stable now after playing around with the settings and tweaking the ini. Still stutters between areas but I'm using a HDD, can't be helped and the stutters no longer happen in combat (by using Ultra graphics - what gives?) so that's enough for me.

There's definitely enough good in vanilla to outweigh the bad for me. Wet shaders on your character, rain no longer goes through ceilings, little details like that go a long way, even if they forget a detail like weapons on back.

For once I am happy tom play through vanilla before trying mods. When the GECK is out I want to turn Dogmeat into Akira lol! :)

There was a storm in Lexington while I was running around Corvega and it all looked so good I ran out to go up the outdoor stairs for a better look- lots of rads for me lololol! Was worth the Radaway though.

I cannot for the life of me find the last few raiders in that Corvega plant though, I swear I have crawled every inch of it too. I went and met Paladin Danse and helped him out for a bit to have a break from it. But I am determined to clear that quest tonight!

Really? Don't think you have to kill all of them, just the leader to clear the area, and the leader has a quest marker. If I remember the raiders were also outside, on the roofs/etc but the leader was inside.

Gameplay is good, I am enjoying the new system, even though your skills now are all governed by perks. It's streamlined sure but it plays the same way with similar depth IMO, still following the formula and I am feeling my character develop.

When ME2 came out they made the action elements great but the RPG systems so shallow, also removing the inventory system. FO4 has alot more customisation than 3 or NV, never liked the Karma system, real life is more about action and consequence rather than good/evil, and skills were just there to get the perks for me anyway. So I'm loving the new system, though a few others seem to disagree.

The rain and weather is fantastic in this game - definitely agree with that. And wet shaders finally!

If it would help in navigating interiors I also recommend changing the FOV, its an ini tweak as always, check google. I'm using 90 FOV myself for my 16:9 monitor.

There was a little passageway I'd missed in all my dungeon crawling lol! Found some great gear and cleaned up the last of the raiders, yay me! :D Now I'm apparently General of the Minutemen haha! Fair enough, they seem a more relaxed unit than the BOS. Might still see if I can help Danse out though.

I know about the ini file thing for FOV, there was a good post on reddit doing a step by step on release day-  I just keep forgetting to do it before I launch the game lol! (have launched it now). I play on TV so I wasn't sure it would be necessary and it isn't in 3rd person but in first person it really, really is.

I still find myself resenting being tied down to having to look for the kid, not that I actually AM looking for the kid as yet mind lol! Just trying to decide whether to burn through that quest line to get it over with then spend the rest of my time in the game doing side quests or not right now.

ETA. Right I have my answer now.  *insert vault boy radiation check emoticon that doesn't exist*

Just play naturally, thats what I'm doing. BTW... not going to spoil but the questline does end up justifying side questing. You'll see :)

Just bought a unique weapon worth 2K+ caps too!!! A 10mm pistol that with further mods do 37 freakin damage and +50% limb damage! Bought it specifically to deal with a devastating new enemy - the mirelurk hunter. Be warned.
