Mirelurk Hunter? Cosworth and I squished some baby mirelurks... hope they weren't it's kids lol! On the subject of Codsworth- how funny are his quips? I have lol'd for real more than once at his little outburst, he's great!
I made it to Diamond City and doesn't life get real when you do? Got absolutely slaughtered by the super mutants holding that dude prisoner ... as in didn't make it up the first flight of stairs and then spend five restarts just trying to run away lol! Then got murdered again in the subway looking for the detective. I'm off doing another minuteman quest or six until I've leveled a bit more and have restocked.
I hated Piper within the first five seconds. Massively annoying woman who shall not be following my guy! I'm wondering if I can join the BOS and still head out and do other stuff without them hating me?
This is from reddit apparently location is in the north west around the chapel/munitions factory area. Definitely a must see on your tour of the greater Boston wasteland lol!
Oh you'll be in for it once the hunters show up, they are seriously overpowered. Bring loads of stimpacks, jet, and med-x
Super mutants are easy for me, then again I have a 57 damage sniper rifle, and 37 damage silenced pistol, plus modded combat shotgun and .45 SMG. And Chinese officer sword just in case. And 12 armor in all body parts, except the head, cause HAIR physics! I only wear a cap
... I got killed by a legendary mongrel though, argh!
Also, check out the USS constitution on the north-east side of Boston, you'll see it from a distance, it kinda stands out. The quest is HILARIOUS especially the ending, it's freakin golden I almost fell off my chair laughing lol - definitely one of Bethesda's best questlines.
HOW are you getting all this awesome gear?!?!?!?! I'm level 10 and dying all over the shop- best armour I could get is lightweight metal and my weps are doing 21 ish damage. *weeps*
Also... I met the Mirelurk Hunters just now. I made good use of sprint lol!
My first and so far only legendary encounter? A Bloatfly. That's right, killed by a legendary Bloatfly after it mutated. The story of my life...
Also keep a lookout for any item with a star, consider them your "magical" items. Don't lose them!
BTW when crafting stuff, make use of the search key, it highlights which missing components you need to craft while adventuring, making buying/collecting components very easy. It's a very intuitive function I found.
Also, don't be afraid to use your power armor, you'll find fusion cores (it's considered ammo) plenty. Not to say you should go around in it all the time, but when you expect heavy combat, use it. It also levels the playing field with deathclaws/hunters, instead of running around trying to stay alive, you'll also get the opportunity for multiple suits.
BTW I HIGHLY recommend the BOS questline... HIGHLY recommended, especially after an event in the main story, I will not spoil it, your jaw will drop - for me, it's a dream come true (be prepared for multiple surprises). Hell I am having to restrain myself from revealing it. This game has excellent pacing IMO, you'll see as you play. It has a ton of content but it doesn't throw it all at you at once. There are a sh-t ton of surprises, not just narrative either.
I'm doing the BOS quest line, despite the fact the BOS come off as total knobs lol! My god how far through the game are you? I'm 16hrs in and nothing much has been revealed... but then I really suck at shooters, like really suck. I've just turned this down to easy since normal suddenly got hard for me kind of suck.
I've been spreading my perks out so I'm level 2 across the board- will get Gun Nut next at least.
I've been noticing the power armour pieces in my apparel... it just dawned on me now that I could equip it, i'd been fast travelling to where I parked it at sanctuary lol!
I might suck and it will likely take me forever to finish- and I'm sure I;'ll have to resort to God Mode at least once- but I am freaking LOVING the game! I think everyone who is bitching about it should try playing DA:I so they actually understand what a truly crap game is like lol!
By default, FO4 uses a weird mouse sensitivity setting; moving the X-axis is faster than moving the Y-axis. Go to Fallout4.ini and under [Controls] it should look something like this:
I also have mouse sensitivity maxed ingame so I can twitch shoot.
Here's a few tips for combat:
VATs: Aim for torso (high % shots), once your critical meter is maxed, aim for the head(or whatever limb you prefer) and execute critical shot, it's an automatic hit with max damage. With fast enemies, they are very fast so aim for the legs. Cripple them and they are sitting ducks, even hunters/deathclaws. Same strategy as other fallouts. I use my pistol since it's high damage and low AP cost for close ranged VATs.
Weapons: Each type of weapon has its uses and optimal range, pistols/SMGs or wide spread shotguns (use a short barrel) for clearing rooms/short range, ARs and SRs for medium/long range. Personally I don't use automatic weapons, semi is fine for me, as ammo is scarce.
Perks: Try to specialise, FO4 has no level cap but it helps to be specialised, for me I'm a gunsmith/ranged/stealth sniper. Strength is low, like 3, so is endurance.
STEALTH: The AI is freakin smart in this game, they will flank, charge, reposition and they make good use of cover (very surprising). Use stealth and try not to be overwhelmed/aggro them all unless you're in power armor. If in trouble, RUN, then sneak back and pop them
And yeah you can modify your power armor like your other weapons/armor
As for the haters, this is a game that needs patience, it's huge with great pacing. From what I've read, they haven't even scratched the surface and decided to hate it. I'm still early on in the game, its a game I refuse to spoil thanks to all the laughs and surprises so I won't answer precisely
I will say this though (light spoiler): I am no longer dragging my power suit along, I have transportation And the transportation... OMG, you have to see it to believe it, and this song plays in my head:
The game started off as 6/10 for me, now after fixing issues/tweaking, diving into the depths of the game, it's 11/10, just saying. And this is vanilla, Bethesda has never struck a note like this with me before.
I got Gun Nut! And suddenly a lot of starred weapons are in my loot drops. Big thumbs up.
I love the exploration aspect of the game and the complexity of the environments you get to explore. It takes me forever to get anywhere because I see buildings on the horizon, veer off and before I know it I'm in the middle of an hour long dungeon crawl through a subway/sewer/vault or running along a broken elevated highway looking for loot or clearing buildings with complicated floor plans of enemies. Then it's back on mission...until the next distraction that is. Love it!
Highlight of the game and quite possibly my life as a gamer- standing on the crumbling edge of a broken overhead highway and spotting a wandering Behemoth below then sniping it until it was annoyed enough to come closer and start hurling rocks at me, then finishing it off with a few frag grenades lol! SCORE! It was way over my level but all Iad to do was dodge the rocks by scooting back. It was a grand kill and got me a fusion core for my power armour, which I went back to Sanctuary and retrieved.
Also, there's a Fatboy at the top of the Lexington Apartments building if you haven't already got it Jackal.
I'm really glad you're enjoying it as much as I am, especially when you started out so dubious. Codsworth is one of the highlights for me, he is so entertaining as a companion, I find myself replying to his quips frequently.
Its bloody addictive, been playing all night. Now I have to get some work done and stop neglecting my other responsibilities heh
As for Codsworth, I haven't used him since getting human companions and equipping them with power armor!
I am so loving the power armor in this game, and I never really used it much in previous titles, except in FNV with Colossus XV mod + Project Nevada's HUD system
I discovered you can turn Paladin Danse against you lol! I hate that knight Rhys guy with a firey passion and decided to club him a bit (read bludgeon into unconsciousness) with my shotgun butt...all of a sudden I am being shot at by Danse haha! Had to reload from the save point lol!
Just found out Rise of the Tomb Raider now out on Xbox too, released same time as FO4, a linear, exclusive Xbox title competing with an open world multi-platform Bethesda title? Are they nuts?! I won't be playing until next year or even later when I can be bothered anyway since its XBOX exclusive.
FO4 is going to last me for years, can already see it happening. Only game I might have time for now is probably Xcom 2.
I hear you! I feel the same way... Squadron 42 might lure me away for a little bit- but I know I'll return to the wasteland. Depending on how much they rort us... Mass Effect Andromeda might get a look in once it's cheap...
Actually, until FO4 the Mass Effect trilogy (yes even 3, Citadel made up for the ending imo) were my all time favourite games, never thought anything could grip me quite the way they did... I've changed my mind now though.
For me the extended cut was enough to redeem ME3, and citadel just made it better. However, the Shepard story is closed for me, so I'm not feeling the hype with ME:A, and the level of EAness in Bioware lately makes me very weary.
Right now I'm scratching my power armor itch, only game I know that is doing it for me now
Gotta love my new T-51 suit!
(Piper is wearing it atm)
EDIT: Oh btw, if anyone are having performance issues/lag spikes, try this:
Looks like Boris has been hard at work, I used his ENBboost for Skyrim as an essential mod. It's still early days though, so I recommend backing up your savegame before installing anything. For me, it has really smoothened out the FPS and memory management in heavy city areas.
Serious they should hire him to optimise the outdated creation engine.

Yeah, I was fairly irritated by Square Enix when they decided the exclusive was a good idea and then to pit it again Fallout 4 is sheer stupidity.. but then there's been a lot of that going on in the game industry of late. It's like what happened to the Konami that gave us the brilliant Castlevania Symphony of the Night on PS1 ? What happened to the real Ninja Gaiden from Tecmo ?
Yeah its like they are actively trying to commit financial suicide or something, first they signed the exclusivity deal despite alienating 2/3s of their fanbase, and now to challenge FO4?
Looks like another rise and FALL of tomb raider, guess I'll wait for the 3rd reboot.
For now... FO4 and BTW 843 files in FO4 nexus already!!!!! They unlocked textures, now they seem to be working on figuring out how to do the meshes. Pretty excited actually. For now TW3 is my GOTY but the moddability and community of FO4... serious competition.
*waves to Peregrinus* You changed your avi! Where's the kitty? The kitty was so cute!
I love the theme, it gives me goosebumps too. I love the music throughout the game- that moment when it picks up and turns dramatic and you drop into crouch and scan the environment for whatever is going to try to kill you? Love it.
Geez, the modders are moving fast! Textures already? Working on meshes? At the snail's pace I'm going through the game the first FO4 Redesigned version will be out before I finish my first vanilla playthrough lol! Too much to see and do and distract me from the quest I'm on lol! I stumbled upon a boathouse last night then set about clearing the enemies out and redecorating- my character deserves a nice holiday home on the water after all. Then I remembered I was on a BOS quest and moved along.
The side quests are super engaging, which is a nice change from the pointless fetch questing of DAI. I'm intrigued by the goings on at Covenant right now ...
See what I mean about distractions lol! It's such an awesome, immersive game, just brilliant!
@waves at Luna Not too surprised at the pace of mods for Fallout 4. It's similar to creation engine used for Skyrim.. I imagine FO4 is going to get modded to hell.
Indy Contest was an interesting experience.. I think I'll be moving forward with rpg maker software I have, instead of other engines.. I just have really fond memories of old rpgs on snes and nostalgia is in full swing for me at the moment.. Also, It's a more realistic thing for me to focus on as one person. Thanks for supporting me on the other project.. Hopefully, I can come up with something fun and interesting in the future.. I'm not giving up on game development. I think it's a worthwhile endeavor.
P.S. Luna, I would have changed it back to the old icon but I can't remember my password for dropbox and my email has changed. doh :>
The kitty was much nicer than evil Santa face lol! Here's some news that will excite you Peregrinus- I'm learning to CODE!!!!
I am going to be doing a Web Development course next year so have found myself a free course to prime myself on before hand... and there is much coding to be learned.
Have you fainted?
Nostalgia is a dangerous drug indeed! I'm still waiting for someone to make a proper open world Pokemon rpg lol!

Yes.. I think I heard you say that you were learning to code.. ?
Anyhow, no open world rpgs for me. I think it would be a poor idea to tackle something that ambitious.. pissing Nintendo off would be a poor way to begin. :>
I can't be the only one who is utterly perplexed by the persistent no existence of that open world Pokemon rpg though, are Nintendo afraid of huge stacks of cash or something? I hear there is a MMORPG in beta that steals the concept at least, but really, we need an official one, for no other reason that I want all the real pokemon!
*ahem*
I had an awesome night last night on FO4! Knocked off a Legendary Synth Strider and picked up a Legendary VATS leather chest piece which, while amazing, was No. Help. At. All. against the super mutants that were swarming the satellite dish I needed to investigate. They and their mutant hounds carried my death with them many, many times before I decided- after my last respawn- to head elsewhere and enjoy not dying for a bit before bed time lol!
There's a fusion core in a trash can on the way to take care of the Backstreet Apparel raiders in the Oberland Station mission if anyone hasn't found it yet.
Oh and Jackal? I met that Legendary rad Scorpion. Yeah, not a fan lolol!
@Lunafancy I believe it was Mr. Satoru Iwata who was against turning Pokemon into a MMO type style game. He had mentioned something to the extent of keeping the game pure but now that he has passed away.. There is a possibility it will happen, especially now that Nintendo is open to developing on other platforms like tablets and cell phones.. I'm not sure if it's the right direction but it looks like that's what is going to happen. It will likely have positive short term effect, but unsure if it might become negative in the long run.. Just my opinion on it.
Whao guys, FO4 is errr... bigger, than even I expected. If you are expecting a Skyrim-like plot for the main quest, you'll be very surprised. Honestly this is a serious contender for GOTY.
However IMO this game requires patience, the pacing is completely different from Skyrim where you are bombarded by tons of quest at once. It's this pacing that unfortunately, led to alot of people giving up on the game / metabombing it before playing through it and seeing it for the jewel it is.
The game breaks alot of stereotypes about Bethesda, the game for me, after tweaking, has great visuals and bug-free. I heard about the "gamebreaking CTD" that happens in a certain area but it's not happening to me. Likely because I don't have that many active quests at once. The story... is the best I've seen from them so far.
Also I'm using ENBboost which not only boosts FPS like in Skyrim, fixes the LOD texture problems as it seems the game by default, fails to use system memory to render the textures in case of a lower VRAM size (like me). The same problem was in GTAV for me but fixed by checking "unlimited VRAM"
