Meh, I have too many real life hassles that can't be avoided to inflict them on myself in a game. Sometimes I run overland to get places, other times I just want to do the quest without spending forever getting there. No less immersive for me, just different.

You can call it cheating if you like, in a single player game I call it playing the way you want. After all it is my game, right?

And just to make you turn red- when I pick up too much stuff out in the world and can't be bothered working out what to ditch? I go into god mode to finish the quest and get home to empty my pockets!

Heaven forfend! :o

Tehe, you took it waaaay too seriously, I was joking. I'm definitely on your side with "cheating" in a singleplayer game. There's no harm in it and everybody should do as he or she pleases. :)

I thought the "pitchfork" comment kinda gave it away...like hunting witches for superstitious reasons, you know? ^^

BTW guys, any tips for upgrading CPU+motherboard without reinstalling windows 7?

I've looked online, but I don't want to miss any pointers.

I haven't done a manual upgrade for quite a long time, already considering getting the shop to do it for me. I'm confident with the physical installation but I dread having to reinstall everything or having to buy another copy of windows just for my new MB. I also can't find my bloody win 7 disk.

Here is the ultimate tip for upgrading cpu+mainboard without reinstalling win7: Dont! :D

Nah seriously...let's assume it works. Great. Now let's assume you run into some troubles. PC troubles, it's a wide field, anyone using a pc for several years probably knows that. You run into problems, you look for the cause, you try to fix it. But could you ever be sure that the possible problem isn't caused by the old windows installation that was supposed to work on the old motherboard? Could you really? Better always reinstall.

If I would upgrade cpu + mainboard now I would also go all the way and reinstall win7, then install win10. The only reason why I'm holding back installing win10 is because my system currently runs perfectly fine. But when something like an upgrade would force me to reinstall anyway...win10! ;)

TL;DR: Do it right, do a clean reinstall after a mainboard upgrade. It's best imho. :) I did this in october 2012 when I last upgraded to a new mainboard...and that same windows installation is running today.

@Jackal  It's probably best you backup your important stuff to a flash drive and then attempt the reinstall.  If you are going with a new mb/cpu,  you might as well use this opportunity to get Windows 10 for free.  I would normally tell you to wait til service pack 1 but  it won't be free at that point.

Also, there is also directx12 which may end up being pretty decent as well for future games.

@DiturbedJim - I spent a day and a half downloading the update this week so yeah, still following SC lol! Getting pretty pumped for it too, but I haven't played any of it yet because... Fallout 4 lol!

@ Jackal, I'm going with 'let the shop do it' because I think I'd rather be hit by a bus than go through the drama myself lol!

@ everyone- Do I do the windows 10 thing or not? My machine is stable and smooth and I really don't want to mess with it... but I equally don't want to miss the freebie and discover I need it to run directx12 down the track ...

@Lunafancy  It seems the Windows 10 upgrade wasn't too bad for majority of people. The biggest complaint right now is the inclusion of ads in certain places which cannot be turned off.   Directx 12 sounds good but I'm wondering if the features will get used much in future games.   I personally would wait til service pack 1 before making the jump but I think the free period will be over before it comes out.

I'm really digging the look of grey knit cap, wrap around glasses, bos uniform, leather armors with combat armor chestplate in fo4.

Argh... I really hate upgrading the motherboard! And I really can't be bothered having to reinstall everything :(

Graphics, PSU, ram, its so easy... but motherboard + cpu though? Hell!!! I also lost my windows 7 disk, does it still need it? Hell if it does, then I might as well just get a whole new freakin computer, it may knock the price down if I keep using my 8GB RAM, HDD, PSU, and Gcard.

I remember the days of not being able to boot, the days of staying up all night through windows installation, the days of going "WTF why wont it turn on"... I really don't need that this xmas :(

Lol! I hear you Jackal, I hear you.

It's the spyware aspect of windows 10- that gives me pause Peregrinus...creeps me out.

Aye, and that's why I just bought a whole new PC 4 yrs ago, I couldn't be bothered with the drama, and it was so nice to have it arrive, plug it in, and walla, gaming within the hour!!!!

And what spyware on win 10? Something we should know about? =O

@Jackal  When Microsoft said tight integration with Xbox live on PC.. They actually meant the ads that go with that.  It's like Internet explorer.. You can't uninstall or turn it off.

If you are going to Windows 10, You won't be needing the Windows 7 key.  It'll read it off your registry. I'm just not sure how smoothly your upgrade to it will go.. It might be a good idea to install Windows 10 and then upgrade your board/cpu afterwards.  I do believe Windows 10 is a bit more upgrade friendly when compared to Windows 7 which was finicky.

@Lunafancy  I'm sticking with Windows 8.1 because everything has been really smooth on my laptop and directx 12 won't do a damn thing for me anyhow.

Ah hell, looks like I'll have to avoid Windows 10 then, until its confirmed that you can turn their spyware off.

Also, lets say the upgrade goes smoothly without having to reinstall win 7, would I have to reinstall Steam games too? Hell it would be a serious b-tch to have to reDOWNLOAD FO4 again just to reinstall it even though I have the disk.

Once again, DRM methods drives me mad!

Heck considering the work involved, might as well wait a little longer and upgrade my Gcard as well. So when it finally pays off, it pays off in a big way. 1440p on Ultra.

I'm still on windows 7 on my gaming pc and main laptop lol! I have 8.1 on my hybrid notebook and hate it with a passion, 8.1 on my surface pro 3 as well but I only use that for art so it doesn't matter.

The 'spyware' quip relates to the data collection aspect of Win10 which everyone has been going nuts about,(google windows 10 spyware and you'll see what I mean but here is an illustrative link for starters) also what about the use of p2p for updates, have they fixed that? Apparently you can turn off all the data collection but it seems pretty complicated...

I like Windows 7 well enough to stick with it truth be told...what I really want is someone to make ubuntu a viable option!

ETA - Jackal you posted while I was typing lol! I'm hoping for a new card down the track too- and maybe to upgrade my TV to a true HD model so I can enjoy the glory of the graphics mods when the come out!

@Jackal  You shouldn't have to do anything with Steam if everything upgrades properly.  Windows 10 isn't all that different from Windows 8.1    The big change is the integration of the desktop mode with the tablet mode or whatever you want to call the interface.  Once again, Windows is catering to keyboard/mouse instead of the touch based system of 8.. But it's something you can get around in Windows 8/8.1 by using a program called classic shell.

Bloody Microsoft, that's the problem of monopolies. MS and EA are the two companies that I hate doing business with but I end up being forced to - the 1st because well... windows and gaming, the 2nd because of Bioware, but not anymore.

Windows 7 it is, hope I can keep it... at least until DX12 comes out with enough of a performance boost to justify an upgrade to Win 10, and that my privacy can be protected.

But yeah, FO4 will only get better. Its a game that will be modded to oblivion, definitely worth upgrading for, and SC is coming together quite nicely too.

@Peregrinus

Oh thank the heavens! Will save me further headaches!

Well this is new... a FO4 player got a rude awakening during one of his sessions:

http://www.express.c...Car-Crash-House

Some people shouldn't drive... strange though - the article says the driver was uninsured, so folks are making a fundraiser to help him pay for the damages... erm? what?! So someone crashes through your house and almost kills you, and they get away with not paying because they have no insurance?!

Aye, it did take forever Peregrinus and the port involved a lot of fan pressure- I signed the petition and everything lol! So excited by this... MODS to Dragon's Dogma! I really really love that game, and now I won't have to be depressed having to play it on my ps3.

In fact, this is pretty much the only game I've kept my ps3 for...maybe Lair, though it's been a good few years since I've pulled that one out. Yay! *quiet moment with self*

I think I'm almost ready for those pointers Jackal, I have to talk to the factions and pick a side soon. I think I'm going to clear up a few unfinished active quests first (how does one find the goddam armoury at the Castle anyway, and where is that id card in vault 75? Time for some walkthroughs I think :) )

So...the dragon combat is the real star of the show, I heard. I may be convinced to buy it after all. January 2016 is just a bit early, I guess by then I'll still play FO4. And then I also haven't even started the first DLC for The Witcher 3. And the next is coming soon, too. Oh dear...too many good games, not enough time, as always. ^^

Dragon shmagon, the dragon is hardly the draw- you get to fight just about every mythological beastie you can think of. And none of this lame two feet on the ground combat crap, you get to scale them and hack away from their backs/ heads, hell you can grab a griffin's tail when it takes off and flip yourself onto it's back. Nothing like running up a giant's back and slicing away at the spot where it's neck and shoulder meet.

Day/night cycle that count - you better believe it's dangerous to stray from a fire at night, you have to be pretty desperate to travel then - in an open world crawling with things that want to kill yo make it pretty amazing.

You should probably at least google it before you dis it as a console game only  worthy of a price drop buy Godzilla. .

Are there any cool videos showcasing that, preferably some that don't spoil parts of the story? Thanks in advance.
