Redcliffe was my low-point performance-wise, too. The lowest I ever got before was 30 fps (High settings with some Ultra settings), but in Redcliffe it even dropped blow that. Still playable and "fluent" by definition, but hardly so. "The human eye can't see more than 25 fps, stupid!" Yeah sorry, that was my split personality. He plays on consoles. :(

Definitely. I even read some of the novels, not yet finished with them though. I usually read them while playing, so....The Witcher 3 will probably give ample reason to continue until the last novel. :)

Yeah, it made no sense to me at all. I got a nice solid 30 fps in the tutorial areas, lower in Haven but not bad. Heck, the most of the Hinterlands runs great but then you arrive at the gates of Redcliffe .. urgh. It's almost like they are not using

Occlusion culling at all.. or is the engine incapable of that?

It's NPCs. Every location with performance drops has huge amounts of NPCs. Haven - and especially when you first leave the hut, with the crowd standing in front. Skyhold. Redcliffe. Those are all ~30fps candidates for me and Redcliffe even below that, because it has a huge vista behind it, is rather big and complex in geometry, the ocean and the waves etc.

I have a Cooler Master Gold 1.2KW Silent Pro
And I do not regret my dual SSD in RAID 0
I do also have 4TB external drives in ESATA for other stuff :-)
My case is an Antec P183 version 3 full tower Audio Video case it has built in insulation to nullify any noises from the GPUS fans and PS fan that is a super quiet case :-)

Titan idles around 104 in wattage but at load , it sucks up 384 or so in wattage.  Just giving you some info because I don't know how much your total at load wattage is with your current hardware.

Okay, that makes sense but somewhat stupid. Why is it rendering things we can't see onscreen?

With a 1.2KW PS I do not think I will run in any problems. And SSD drive do not take much juice, and for me SLI is not something I will go with since it does not work with lots of games.
Even if I went with dual Titans 1.2KW can handle pretty much anything out there and is quite the size PS :-)

Ya, that should be more then enough for 1 titan.  :>

I am in Skyhold right now and yes there is lots of people there and I am 55 to 60FPS when looking around doing a 360 and looking up and down.
So let's hope it stays that way :-)

Your performance is quite surprising. Oo Can you post your whole settings including the screen resolution please?

Even for 2 Titans that still leaves me with 550 Watts to spare :-)

I get decent fps in Skyhold.. It's Redcliffe that's the culprit. I'm guessing I'm about 75% through the game and no other area stutters and lags like that city.

Is Redcliff a video glitch, or is it a bug in the game for the FPS drop:-)?

Mhm...well I guess the difference is that the 570 is a high end card of its generation, while the 760 is a mid-end card of its generation, and actually just a renamed GTX 660 Ti anyway. ^^

To be honest with you, I'm not sure what the issue is with Redcliffe.  I don't get any video glitches but soon as I enter through the gates, my computer cries out for help.  :) I'm just not familiar enough with Frostbite engine to know what could be the issue. Thankfully, Redcliffe isn't a place you have to linger in for long so there is that. :>

This is the way to explain it
Nvidia has the 500 600 700 800 and 900 series
Then the most important part is the class as in 50,60,70,80,90
Now a 570 is faster than 660 and maybe 5% slower than. 670
A 970 is close to double the speed of a 570
Mine is the ASUS GTX 570 Direct CU II it takes 3 slots and has the heat pipe cooling technology so it runs quite cool.
If you Google my card it runs at 742Mhz and it over clocks easily to 1005Mhz on air, no liquid cooling.
Reviewers call it a wolf in sheep clothing such a big card with such cooling system, and I have tried it at 1000Mhz and it runs solid
Memory 1148mhz and shader 2012
So it is a card that can scare even the 770
The 970 runs at 1133mhz so it is a fun card :-)

Just you wait when I get my GTX 970. :D Yeah I know, you'l strike back with the Titan and totally destroy my card, but then again my electricity bill will beat yours lol. :D

LOL yes that's for sure :-)
I am happy with my rig right now, but I foresee a Titan in a few weeks maybe
My dealer said to me they are hard to get right now :-)
He might be able to get one in a few weeks from now :-)
But makes no difference you can have 12 Titans if the driver is junk and Bioware cannot fix their stupid console engine I am afraid that it will not make a difference.
:-)
I see people on the forum withTitans and some of them cannot even run the game :-(

Who care about five or ten dollars added to the electric bill when you can rock any game you want at 70+ FPS (and if it isn't the game has a problem, not you.)

Yes, a Titan does little good if the CPU is bottlenecking the thing, your rig can't keep it cool or, you have other programs running, mods, cheats whatever that crash or interfere with the game.

If the whole rig is up to snuff for a Titan, you shouldn't have any major problems with the game and, if you do, it won't be hardware.

And yes you need a pretty decent PSU to run a Titian but, you have one so not an issue. I assume you have the extra cooling it needs or, room to add another fan if you find you need it.

@MatrixGirl:

Mhm...I don't wanna try and convince you otherwise, but are you sure a Titan is what you need? I know it's an all powerfull graphic card, but it achieves this with brute force, hence the high power consumption.

Why not try something like one GTA 980...or maybe two of them. The 980 is an effective design. It's also not an exotic card like the Titan. I'd expect Nvidia to optimize more towards the 9xx series than towards the Titan because of the lack of people who actually own one. The 980 is current gen, probably selling well so this is were driver development budget is going.

You seem to be more of an expert on the Titan or graphic cards in general than me (I usually getting very knowledgeable on hardware at the time when I actually build or upgrade a pc, but then it runs a few years and I don't care much about the stuff tbh *g*), admitely, so this is just a thought I share. Correct me if I'm wrong. ^^

Well I put it to you this way, true I could go with dual 980 they are amazing cards, but never was a fan of SLI lots of games do not work with SLI.
So with the Titan you are safe for a couple of years or more :-)

Well we go along concerning SLI at least - I think it's stupid, too. But many people really seem to like it, even though they run to problem after problem because SLI-optimization is mostly the least of the developers concern. Only after release, if at all, it seems.

I dunno about the "years". Nvidia did something not so clever in creating this card imho, as it outperformans their other cards for years - true. But I bet they will find a way to somehow weaken the card in the year(s) to come. I thinking about less driver optimization for the Titan. And also obvious things like missing dx12 support as you cannot simply inject that into a card, the chip has to support it from the start. While it will still have the performance it might miss things in other categories.

But why? Well every Titan owner is basically a customer lost for years. :D The fact that there aren't many of them doesn't even help, because like I said: I think they'd rather optimze their future drivers for 500.000 sold GTX 9xx cards than for 5.000 Titans. ;)

I still think you'll be happy with the card, for now and hopefully it will have a long life. ^^

I wonder what comes after the Titan?
I should be HR or PR for Nvidia
I would call it the Draken

Release The Draken!!!!!

Got accosted by my cat. Anyhow, I think I personally prefer clever engineering vs brute force.  If you can afford a Titan, that is probably the way to go but I think if I built a desktop in the future, it'll be the AMD R9 series. Jak.jpg
