Plowing through DOS:EE now, thanks to lots of CC, summons and usual tactics of environmental control.

2-handed still more powerful than a backstabbing DW rogue, ~350 crit damage @ ~20% chance vs ~100 crit damage per 4 AP... dunno if that is balanced considering the squishiness of a melee rogue.

I don't know if any of you are Terry Brooks fans, but The Shannara Chronicles on MTV  turned out pretty well.  I'm glad to see the wonderful series make it to TV.   No idea how MTV managed to get the rights to do it.  4 episodes so far.

Yup, it's a bit teen-ish, but looks good so far. Usually those fantasy formats turn out to have this very low-budget-look (like Legend of the Seeker), but this one looks pretty solid and high-budget.

Speaking of high-budget, there where at least two more surprises in the tv pipeline late last year / early new year. I think I mentioned it before, maybe not here, not sure...

In the scifi department I was really blown away by "The Expanse". Looks like very high-budget (especially compared to the two scifi series we were fed up with earlier this year - Killjoys, which was fun at least and Dark Matter, which was really dull imho), excellent design, engaging storyline and great space scenes, which kinda brings it full circle with the high budget. Can't make good space scenes without good money. :D 5 episodes so far and I really can't wait for the next one!

And the second one that surprised me is another fantasy setting - Beowulf - Return to the Shieldlands. Right at the start they showed off their skill in creating digital creatures which really isn't easy as we've seen in so many mediocre fanatasy series, but these looked pretty impressive. One episode so far.

Ahhh Killjoys, it was indeed fun but so much wasted potential at the same time. Dark Matter was such a snooze fest I gave up on it. :) Will have to see if I can find the others for a looksee. I read the sword of Shanarra about a hundred years ago and enjoyed it- will definitely look that one up Peregrinus.

I've hardly touched FO4 this week, my cat ended up in the ICU with pancreatits on new years day evening and she's been back home for a night, gone back into hospital and was back home again last night- and facing a return to hospital tomorrow if she doesn't eat. It's been a freaking nightmare!

I now have eight days to finish it before DD comes out...

@GODzilla  Yeah, I'm fairly certain it's geared towards teens but then again it's on MTV.. That's  a channel I haven't watched since 1983 so I was surprised in a good way.   :)   I feel the same as you about "The Expanse".  It's a compelling very high budget show.  That's actually what worries me though.  How long can they afford it?

@Lunafancy  Sorry to hear about your cat.   :(  I hope she recovers soon and feels better.   SyFy seems to be coming back to what it was intended to be.. A sci fi based channel.   :)    But it seems like comics and sci-fi is taking over TV now.  There are so many sci-fi/comic based show either already on or coming soon.  It beats the hell out of reality tv so I'm really glad.

Speaking of good shows to watch.  Netflix has been on fire lately with Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones season 1.

Thanks Peregrinus, she ate a little bit, which was thrilling until she threw it back up. She's back in hospital on a drip now so at least she is getting the support she needs.

I just looked up The Expanse (todays been a bit fraught so there was a bit of a delay lol!) and it sounds fab! I'm in need of a distraction that doesn't require me to think so I might look it up and see if I can watch it. :)

Are you going to join me in playing Dragon's Dogma Peregrinus? Are you? Huh? Huh? Are you? :D

I hope the cat gets better soon. Over the time I lived in my families house we had many cats. Let me think...five and my grandparents who lived nearby had four over the years. Watched them all live a happy life in the countryside, a field of medows at our doorstep and such, they lived long. I miss them. Keeping my fingers crossed for yours and yeah, get some distraction, The Expanse is cool!

Thanks Godzilla, she's home again now, the vet changed out her appetite stimulant and she started eating like a champ so they decided to give her an anti emetic shot and send her home. So far, so good- she's been a right piggy since arrival lol!

$2700 spent to date.  If anyone ever wonders why I still have a GTX760 instead of SLI 980's I'll just point to her and shrug. :P  Add this to the $1400 I spent on her 18 months ago for a cruciate reconstruction and she is a very expensive kitty cat! Worth every penny and then some too. :)

Look at that face!

YyJjTQth.jpg

The Expanse is pretty cool- I saw that it was based on a novel and it's goodness-in-spite-of-being-made-by-syfy actually began to make sense. Thought I'd jumped to a parallel dimension for a minute there haha! I am looking forward to seeing how the three storylines converge, thinking I'll catch , myself up on it tonight while I bleed off the past week's stress, then catch m,yself up on FO4 tomorrow. :)

Here one of mine, it was not the last one, there was one other who outlived him, but he was definitely the greatest cat I ever had. His name was "Carlo".

nDn2rVi.jpg

And no, that little hat there wasn't photo-shoped onto him, it was real and he endured this for the duration it took to do the foto. :D

Yeah he was a rather patient cat, letting all kinds of people do stuff with him like...

And just look at his playing field. ^^

Logged into Steam to initiate my catch up on FO4... and am prompted to preload Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. *fans self* Just a bit excited! :D

Peregrinus, you've prompted me to run the fps counter in South Boston now.

Godzilla, very cute kitty indeed. My girl has been chowing down like a champ and has kept it all down so far to boot. Hoping that once the anti emetic wears off she keeps holding it down, otherwise she's going to have to pop in for a jab... pancreatitis in cats is apparently most unfun. :(

@Lunafancy  No matter what I've tried, South Boston just sucks!   I'm running FO4 on mixed medium/low settings with low godrays and volumetric lighting. I tried all low settings and it runs about the same as settings I"m using now.

oh btw, I"ve watched The Shannara Chronicles three times and I'm throughly impressed by it's production quality and acting.  I don't see how some critics are saying it's generic fantasy. The fantasy world is basically earth a 1000 years after mankind has fallen, so the setting itself is fairly unique since you see fantasy mixed with what's left of what we have now, which in itself is fairly interesting to see.

One thing a bit off I noticed is the elfstones which looks like a last minute prop, while the CGI and costumes on the show are top notch.

I stopped using vivid landscapes 1k and replaced it with Wasteland 512 which just has smaller textures all around with very similar quality.  It definitely helped performance wise after much testing.

I also dropped the True Storms, Fogout and also darker nights.  They all contributed in slowing down my poor laptop to a crawl in the city areas.

Well I did hype Jackal into FO4... that seemed to work out well, especially since he was dead against it... Goooo oooonnn... you know you want to climb a griffin/golem/cyclops/chimera/hydra/any number of additional classical monsters I can't be bothered listing and stab it in the head... :D

Gaahh, it finally happened, after 235 hours of Fallout 4 (and yes, I do have a dayjob xD) I have enough of it. Was bound to happen sooner or later I guess. Seems I'm finally sold on Dragons Dogman then. :D And then there's Tombraider at the end of the month. And XCom 2 at the beginning of next month. And the new Total War game...damn. ^^

Lol! And here I was coming in with a new gameplay vid to tempt you with! :D

It has the kb/m controls tutorial prompts showing for Jackal to see if he likes them as well.

I have to admit my head has not been in FO4 since I discovered DD was coming to pc ... I am really excited about this one.

For now I will continue TW3. It's a real shame I have yet to finish the main game. I kinda stopped when there was a bug several patches ago, one that denied me the gear I had crafted only an ingame hour earlier and cost me a fortune on crafting materials. It took a week before a mod "fixed" that but I was preocupied and then two more weeks went by...lost the flow of the story.

I started over late last year and then Fallout 4 was released. :D

Knowing myself it's very likely that DD will trow a spanner into the works yet again. I will also definitely pre-order, knowing that the pre-order version contains the soundtrack AND an artbook (and I'm a sucker for artbooks) that costs over 40€ when purchased seperately. Although I prefer hardcovers over digital artbooks the bargain is still a good one.

@Lunafancy Well, it looks like they cleaned up the textures nicely for PC. What's being shown is running at 1280x720 and it still look very good!   :)

@GODzilla  I know what you mean about TW3. I could not download the 7 gb patch so I'm still on the older version. I did play it through once though.

Well, I've been working on a concept of a game made in Unity.   Project Light's End..  Imagine  Stalker but more fantasy but still dealing with some dark themes.

PS : TAA & sharpening looks really amazing for FO4.  The new sweetfx shaders and mediator utility is first class!

What quest is that Peregrinus? Is that the ship that's stuck in the bulidings? I spoke to the robot there but it still is marked at 'speak to the captain' in my quest log...will have to revisit it I guess. I really feel that I've missed stuff in FO4- opened up two new areas last night lol! I'm hoping that the sidequests remain playable after endgame.

I am clawing the walls waiting for the release- apparently a review copy has been leaked and there are torrents around and many people who've pre-ordered have downloaded because they couldn't wait another week lol! I know the feeling!

For the sake of full disclosure (since I am hyping the crap out of the game) I feel I must say that last night I discovered that there is still only one save slot for the game:

"Q) Does the game support more than one save slot?
A) No. The pawn trading system and interaction with the Rift server was designed around a single save and player profile. While hot-swapping save file outside of the game is technically possible, this will cause synchronization issues with the pawn you have uploaded to the Rift or shared out to friends and other community members."

This doesn't bother me since I only play one character at a time (have enough trouble remembering where I'm up to without adding a new PC into the mix lol!) it might bother someone else. But now you know!

Full FAQ here

Reports from those already playing are that it's solid, smooth and the kb/m controls are actually better than the gamepad ones. Which actually doesn't surprise me as I think a lot of us thought the game would play better with kb/m, much like DAO did (I played it on my ps3 the first time round and it really is better with kb/m and I don't even like WASD lol!)

I think the only criticism I have for FO4 is the main story just doesn't grip me- I was more interested in getting Danse and now I have him it's a bit meh. I understand it's because the game is less linear but still, I really miss that DAO/ME feeling of hanging out all day so that I can get back to the story because it's just that compelling. As the year moves on I think I am going to be tentatively excited by the possibilities for ME:A because of this, not pr-order excited, mind...not even buy in the first week excited - because DA:I will not be forgotten -  but hopeful.

That quest was pretty epic. First I was =] when the ship started. All that running around seemed to have payed off in the end.

Spoiler
And when I realized they actually planned it the way it turned out I was... :pinched: but also  lol ^^

Mhm...one of the if not the best sidequest in the game so far. :)

Ugh, I have so much left to do in FO4! All the stress of Isolde being so ill really ate into any play time I had left. I might have to do some serious time thedft from real life to remedy this! :D

Check this DDDA vid out Godzilla! Early on you see the grapple function (where your pawns hold an enemy for you to kill) then around 5.45 min you see what the game is all about- you're fighting one foe and then BAM a bigger, nastier critter is drawn to the ruckus and things start to get real lol!

And this guy does a stand up job of summarising it for new pc players. :)
