Seriously Godzilla? Such a harsh judgement based on such a short vid intended to highlight the combat. There are much longer videos that show just how incredibly detailed the world is if you care to find them yourself.

[...]

Oh nooo...now I've fallen from grace and you hate me! :( Kidding. ^^

Well I already know, I'm an idiotic sucker when it comes to graphics. 99% indie games I avoid due to that. If it's not flashy I don't want it. :P

There are some exceptions though. I love Faster Than Light and played through Sword & Sworcery, it was cool. But...that's about it, my whole indie-gaming-experience in a nutshell. ^^

[...]

TW3 was flashy graphics wise but imo bland as hell story/ dialogue wise (when it wasn't being ridiculously cheesy and cringey) and the combat is atrocious. The open spaces in TW3 were just trees and grass and the villages I went to weren't that exciting in terms of NPCs (in fact DD has the ones I went to beat by far) either so I have no idea what you're on about to be honest. Plus FFS it's YOUTUBE footage! WTH? I think you're nitpicking for the sake of it.

[...]

I'll make this short: For me, TW3 is the high-standard of the industry. The story was excellent imho (I read all the books), the presentation was amazing and the fights are awesome, too.

Yes, maybe not on the same level of DD, but you can't really compare these two. The Witcher 3 tries to aim for "realism" (or let's better call it authenticity) in it's own universe. You are a mutant, stronger and faster than a human and that's why one hit of a monster doesn't kill you. It does not however allow you to climb a beast like a mountain, ignoring that it should be able to shake you off with ease. It's definitely cool that you can do that in DD, but in terms of plausibility I think it's more in the realm of comics or anime. ;)

What I can compare though is the graphics and that's what I did. World-design, details, character details, texture quality and animations are all one or two steps below The Witcher 3 and that's all what I said.

The game might still be fun and I will give it a try.

I don't anything you Godzilla, one way or the other. ;)

I still think you're almost trolling me by comparing a 2012 console port with a 2015 game made for both next gen consoles and high end pcs but you seem to do this sort of thing a lot to me so whatever.

I also think reading the books allowed you to gloss over a lot of what was awful in TW3 but you are as entitled to your opinion as me. I thought it was awful apart from the graphics. I played even less of it than DA:I lol!

Anyway, play DD, don't play it, it's none of my concern. Your opinion is of as little consequence to me as mine is to you.

Cheers.

No trolling, I swear. And yes I know it's a 2012 console game. So it is obviously a good amount of wishful thinking hoping for better graphics. I mean they did polish it up and I hoped they'd polished a bit more is all. ;)

Just read the reddit post in DD's K/M controls, hmmm... RMB to block conflicts with the bow he says...

The reaction time for me for blocking on the KB is slow, and conflicts with my movement, made it very annoying to block as a rogue or 2-handed warrior in DAI. So I guess you can't remap the aim key? How about block on MMB?

It's an ARPG so I need good controls 'tis all. However so far it seems swallowable. I might get it once it comes out... maybe :P

Hehe

I'm also worried about online-only DRM requirements, many game devs these days are very sneaky and dishonest. That I'll still have to wait for, even if it's on Steam. I normally only pre-order from trusted devs because of this too.

Speaking of trusted devs, I'm also rather disappointed with FO4's 20 out of 25 GBs of installation data left on the Steam servers, makes the full priced retail copy worthless, and it's very dishonest of them to go "we've been doing this for a long time" when Skyrim had most of the data on disk. As happy as I am with FO4, Bethesda is off my trusted dev list.

Firaxis, Taleworlds, CDPR, and all devs publishing on GOG; only those left I can pre-order from without worry.

Legitimate customers like me always get the bad end of the stick.

@Jackal  I do agree that it was not a good move by Zenimax to have Bethesda put this measure in place but I still trust their work..

I'm unsure on how to feel about the parent company that normally allows Bethesda to do what they choose to do enforce this form of DRM.  It's not as if this stopped pirates from pirating FO4.

I normally don't have that amount of data usage available ever so anything bigger than 2 gigs in size, be it update or game is not normally accessible to me.

I can go to a friend's and use theirs but I can't do it all the time.  It's a shame that CDPR didn't rub off on the other devs, especially after the major success that TW3 was.

Agreed, a real shame :(

I hate to take off devs off the trusted list, I don't like having to be wary about games, I like to believe the hype and feel the excitement as any other gamer but when I'm so at risk of being lied to and ripped off, punished for supporting the game legitimately, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It could be worse though, at least once FO4 is installed, it's there to stay and you can play offline (unless you log onto steam online and it forces you to update before you can play - hampering modding - or heaven forbid - having to redownload the whole game again to reinstall). Steam for some games allows you to play without updating but it depends on the developer/publisher and their decision.

Hence almost all AAA publishers for me are already on the blacklist. If not for other devs I would be forced to find another hobby rather than gaming. Thankfully at least I still got them for a cash sink.

He said you can remap the aim Jackal if you want to use RM to block. Ah well... no scaling monsters for you lol! There is no DRM on it other than Steam as far as I can tell.

You people are too hard! I've had bugger all sleep over the last ten days- first because evryone was upset that their 'sister' was missing, and now because she's back but isn't herself and Akira can't understand why and I am officially out of transferable hype. -_-  I'm just going to enjoy the crap out of it in my own little corner I think.

As for things that are too hard- that bloody SS Constitution quest is killing me! Not literally, but I keep failing it when the raiders attack. I tried fatmanning them, still failed. Are they boarding the ship? Am I damaging the ship? Ironsides and co attacked me after the fatmanning so maybe so... I went to bed after that... not that I got any sleep between the upping and downing of animals. But still... I went to bed lol! I'm regretting starting this thing now- finding those fuses drove me to google! I forgot how badly lost I got the first time round in Corvega- until I got just as badly turned around again. :P

@Lunafancy  You know you can stop the raiders by firing the ship's cannons at them.  It's a switch right next to the Captain.

It doesn't stop all of them...but you can fire those babies multiple times. There is either a notification or the captain is telling you when they're reloaded. :D

God! Thank you Peregrinus- I ran over to them but they wouldn't highlight lol! I saw no button at all!

Sigh, I do not function well on limited sleep, especially over a long time. Akira is snoozing away right now, since he is th emain contributor to my sleepless nights, would it be too awful to wake him up in revenge? :D

Haha well, I am a hard sell :P

Especially with unknown devs - I don't play games on consoles so I normally have zero interest in Japanese games. I also don't really like their "anime-cartoony" and "kawaii" style either but that's personal taste. You got me interested in Dragon's Dogma large-creature-combat though, it's something innovative -> and that gets my interest.

Still, while complaining about FO4's lies in regards to the DRM, found out that MGSV's retail disk was worse -> a steam installer and that's it. So anything out from Japan, I'm even more wary. Also GTAV has MULTIPLE layers of DRM not just Steam, using their own Rockstar Online "service". So I know even if it's on Steam, it can still have more layers of DRM. All this just puts me off their games. But hey, an game comes out on GOG, it would be a much easier sell for me.

Man, Capcom is hardly an unknown developer- and they have said outright on the FAQ on Steam there is no DRM on it- there's already mods developed from the leaked game for pities sake. And it's $29.99 on Steam, $22 on GMG for a full game with a full game sized post end game expansion lol! Hardly asking for your first born  are they?

I don't care if people aren't interested or don't like it, I really don't - hell I didn't like POE in the end or TW3 or Grim Dawn- each to their own. But you guys are just making crap up to pick on for some reason, like seriously. I will be surprised if any of you ever buy another game again with you weirdo criteria.

Must equal or exceed TW3  graphics for Godzilla- ummm. FO4 sure didn't. Jackal wants precise kb/m configuration straight out of the box and sees DRM around every corner... I am looking forward to Xcom2 release now to see if it actually passes muster in the end.

Like I said, play it, don't play it- I no longer care.  I've gone out of my way to introduce you to what is essentially the best monster combat game ever made and you guys have done nothing but pick holes in it, based on crappy youtube footage and erroneous presuppositions. Peregrinus has at least played it on PS3!

Anyway, I'm dying to get stuck into it with uncapped framerate, no letter-boxing and overhauled graphics and honestly that's all tha matters. I'll get my related social fix on reddit and Steam, I'm fine with that.

When I scale my first monster I'll think of you guys and shake my head, once, after that I'll be having too much fun to give a crap. :P

@Lunafancy  Everyone will have their favorites.  I don't think Jackal and GODzilla are trying to instigate something here.. They are just telling you how they feel about what they do/don't like.  To be honest, Capcom hasn't been really trying too hard on the PC side of things til more recently.

Their previous venture into PC with Lost Planet Series, The Resident Evil ports, and various other dull offerings didn't help their cause.  Dragon's Dogma is probably the first one they actually put some effort into and that took them 4 years.

I might buy, it's on the watchlist, but waiting for a few more boxes to be ticked before I hit the purchase button, especially on Steam - no going back - no refunds. I also don't trust what they say, only what the game itself proves once its released.

Ubisoft: "we have no DRM"

Gamer: *installs game* Wait what? What's this online-only crap?

Ubisoft: "it's our free service to you to enrich your gaming experience!"

Gamer: *facepalm*

Bioware: "By PC Gamers, for PC Gamers"

... you know how that turned out...

Bethesda: "We have been doing this for years, it's nothing new"

Gamer: WTF? 20 GB download on my physical copy?!

So yes they lie, lie straight up or lie through omission. I simply don't like to be played for a sucker. It happens consistently enough for me to be wary of.

Right now with DD:DA it's just the potential DRM, and if its just Steam, and I can play offline, then I'm sold.

The folks playing the leaked version have no DRM, obviously, so they can't confirm the DRM on the legitimate version, and I can never be bothered looking for torrents.

Two mods that got lost due to the nude mods.   R91 rifle and AK 2047.   Yes, they are moddable and they spawn on raiders, supermutants and gunners!    Hey, same author put out a 9mm pistol as well.

Moddable? That's... alot of work to do on the guns!

Still giving some distance to FO4 though, to prepare for a new game, which will hopefully be with new upgrades and a guns on back mod/patch. Almost finished my playthrough with D:OS EE, might get on DD:DA soon, to last me till Xcom 2!

Like I said- there is no DRM apart from Steam. Playing online at least some of the time is the only way to get the most out of pawns but it isn't for DRM purposes and you can play offline. From the developers themselves on the Steam thread (which you know, anyone who bothers to look can find instead of making assumptions):

wbacon [capcom]  [developer] 17 Dec, 2015 @ 8:11am
DDDA is a standard Steamworks game.

You can of course play in offline mode, but you will miss certain aspects of the online Pawn exchange functionality and the online Ur-Dragon battle. That said, you can temporarily connect online to download pawns from the Rift and then take it offline completely.

A big part of DD's attraction, aside from the awesome combat mechanics, is in exchanging cool-looking pawns with friends and other DD community members. There's nothing more satisfying than being able to share your adventures (and screenshots!) with the online community, and being able to tell the story through your avatar and friend pawns is essential to that experience :)

EDIT: just adding a bit more context on what it means to go offline in DDDA.

I'm narky on this sort of thing because some of us who know and love the game are keenly aware of the fact that how well it does on PC will decide if we get a sequel/ DDOnline western release so false rumours that can hurt the game over nothing are an issue because crap spreads on the internet- whether it's true or false.

There Is No DRM Other Than Steam. (Personally I could do without Steam but it is here to stay so I've adapted)

This is my last comment on the game (unless people are playing it of course) because honestly, I am too busy having the time of my life in one of the best games ever made and enjoying the camaraderie of others who are playing it and loving it on reddit to bother convincing anyone to do themselves a favour and give it a go anymore, so play it or not- it's your loss. It is already  rated Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam by the way, so it's not just me who's saying these things.

I will leave these post release reviews here because they kind of prove my point.

And like many others on Reddit I bailed on finishing FO4 for it because it is just that good. I'll finish you later FO4, I will. But right now... much, MUCH more fun calls me.

Nice little side effect of weapon mods that modify leveled lists is that it can make your enemies more formidable since now they have a chance to spawn in with a AK or a new assault rifle at their disposal.

Hope it's balanced! Then again, survival mode was pretty easy I found, once u got the perks (it's actually good because u wouldn't spend perk points on damage perks on lower difficulties, and the damage perks have their own sets of abilities)

I'm pretty busy now actually, work is picking up BIG TIME :(

Still on a FO4 break myself, unless a guns on back mod arrives heh

Also caught a break from work, downloading Dragon's Dogma as we speak, hopefully it's as good as Luna claims it to be.

TWO WEEKS FROM XCOM 2 BTW! Most anticipated game for me.

Haha! It's all the awesome- flaws and all. Prepare for a game that refuses to hold your hand and much dying. :) I have just died many times in this session lol!

This is the sort of game it is- after trying maybe six times to get past these bandits and dying horribly I went saurian and goblin hunting (board quests) and night fell so I It then occurred to me that maybe the bandits would be holed up in their sprawling fort by night and so would be easier to kill Turns out I was right!

I'm loving every minute of it.

Wolves hunt in packs!!! (you'll get it after you play).
