Lol! That gives me some comfort Peregrinus, but it doesn't take away the memory of slamming into a tree, backing up and turning the wheel only to slam back into the tree- over and over again for so long that a zombie ripped off the door and dragged me out to gnaw on lol!

It was like running the Gethe gauntlet in the Mako with a blood alcohol level of 6.0 I imagine lol!

Really don;t know how I survived long enough to make it to the church tbh. :D

Just use the rain spell to short out their fuse. easiest way to deal with them.

damn, was trying to avoid using magic for this character... oh, well. guess roleplaying can have it's insane disadvantages. *shrugs*

Or teleport them right into the middle of other enemies, fun fun!

@Jackal  Well, invisible Man didn't want to use spells but I do find it fun also to teleport folks into things.  :)  On a side note, I finally fixed my R key on my laptop keyboard. It was a piece of cat litter stuck underneath the key.. Thank goodness because It was driving me absolutely crazy!

Development using Unity has been painfully slow due to it's poor performance on my laptop.  It's strange that it would be worse then Game Guru which is not optimized at all at this point.  Did I mention how poorly it handles height mapping? Grrr..  The shaders for Unity are however pretty nifty keen!

@peregrinus
Seems like you've been having some technical issues, I know those tend to drive me up a wall.

Have you tried Unreal 4 Peregrinus? Might perform better.

I'm learning SQL at the moment...

I would but I don't have the internet data required to get it.  Between the engine and the assets to get started.. It's around 12 gb or so and I have 2 gb maximum.

What I've learned how to do in Unity so far.

all aspects of terrain building, manipulating light sources, setting up FPS controllers, utilizing physical shaders, adding in cinematic effects/post processing to camera, parent/child relationships, setting up skyboxes, adding in controller support, some light script building/editing.  It's pretty much all the basics so it's all on me to create a unique/interesting environment and then to menu/gui building and gameplay mechanics.

Oh bugger. I forgot about you and your pooh data allowance issues. :(

I'm always surprised when I  hear people in other countries have worse 'net than we Aussies do- especially you US guys! We're forever complaining about our internet over here lol!

Sadly, I've seen worse access in other places in the US.  It's very inconsistent.  I imagine it will improve once the wireless carriers expand their reach and don't charge obscene amounts for data usage.

I think it's likely those obscene rates will stay high and annoying for some time. Just look at cellphones.

Just decided to try plugging in my friend's XBOX 360 controller in Win 7 for a fighting game (hands down too difficult to play on keyboard), must have greyed out all the links by now, none can solve my problem.

Things done (based on instructions):

- Downloaded the MS drivers for the XBOX wired controller

- Went to joy.cpl to test and nothing shows up

- Lights are on, all green, quadriant lights up green left hand corner

Things I've tried:

- Changing USB ports

- Changing to all the 4 drivers available in the pack

- Scanned for hardware changes in device manager

Useless... oh well, good thing I didn't BUY a controller

EDIT: Ok... just noticed my friend's XBOX in the lounge was turned on, strange... then after I turned it off, the controller went red. Alright, just realised all the controller does when plugged into my PC is charge, and the controller actually turns ON the xbox in the lounge. Ah what the hell, I can never run these things.

I have a Logitech pc controller- because I couldn't get the XBox one to work. Apparently you have to get an adapter dohickey to plug into the PC. I couldn't source one locally and didn't want to wait weeks for it to come from OS on ebay,  so just bought the Logitech.

The Logitech is plug and play with just a wireless USB thingy. Works great. :)

@Jackal   I'm guessing you are trying to use a wireless xbox360 controller with usb charging cable attached.  It will not work at all without an adapter like Lunafancy mentioned.  However, all xb360 type controllers that are usb autodetect and work perfectly in Windows 7/8/10.

It's a wired controller, unless the wire is just for charging on a PC, it's fixed to the controller. Oh well

That's really strange.  I've never had a xb360 controller microsoft/generic not recognize under Windows 7 or higher. Maybe, you can just get a cheapie knockoff 360 style controller to try out or go with Luna's suggestion.

No idea what's going on Jackal- like I said I just bought a Logitech because it was all too hard with a wireless. I googled and found this on Xbox Support for you though.

I've had my pulse raised by this Early Access space game - Angel's Fall First - it looks pretty awesome already!

Drop ships/space and ground combat...boarding Capital ships... I'm wondering if you can do all of the above with one character though, I only found out about it last night just before bed so have much to learn. But it has really good Steam reviews so that's a plus.

Yeah I tried Microsoft and tons of different forum topics trying to find a solution, no clue what's up. The strange thing is that the controller turns on and lights on but whenever it does - it switches on the Xbox all the way in the lounge. Maybe that's how his console is set up I don't know.

Ok unplugged his Xbox and it still doesn't work, *sigh*

The thing is, I already downloaded the driver and the accessories exe. By default upon plugging it in, it comes up with "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play and Charge Kit", I tried all the different available drivers like "Xbox Controller for Windows" and it never shows up in joy.cpl let alone respond ingame.

I'm just not understanding how a wired xb360 controller is somehow turning on a console when it's connected to the pc..

I'm wondering if it is a wireless but has the wired plug in  attached, Peregrinus. Youreally only use that wire when your batteries have died, you need a pair of AA batteries with the cartridge to run it wirelessly, but it could be that it is getting power via usb from the PC yet sending a wireless signal to the 360.

I didn't think the 360's had hard wired controllers to be honest, pretty sure that was the first Xbox and they went wireless with the 360's. Mine only came with wireless anyway, but you can plug them in when your batteries go flat. They are still sending the signal though because they are essentially wireless.

Just get the logitech wireless Jackal- all your problems will evaporate when you do. :D

Heh I give up, I'm sticking to keyboard now.

BTW I just checked out the AFF game, developed with zero budget for 7 years, now that's a passion project!

Jackal, I know, right? I'm really keen on it except for the third person view during space combat... if it had cockpit view I'd be sold. Still, it's cheap enough that I reckon once I've finished this SQL unit (which is kicking my butt right now) I'll treat myself to the game and give it a go. It'll be a nice reward. :D

Luna   I own 4 wired 360 controllers, 2 of them generic. All of them were purchased for the xb360 but work 100% on pc also.  I'm fairly certain Jackal is trying to make a wireless controller with plug and charge kit on it work on pc.

BTW, AFF does look amazing.

Dialing down the scope of my concepts.  I'm thinking too broadly for my second effort.
