What are you making this time 'round Peregrinus?

Also, my friend is killing me with FB articles about the new Nvidia GTX 1080  at the moment. So cruel after all my money has gone to vets so far this year... *cries*

aokigahara, suicide forest. 1955.       Ya, on the new GTX 1080/1070.  1070 is basically the Titan X replacer at a much lower cost.  1080 is basically 2 980's but on one core.  They both release at the end of the month.

GOG has a star wars sale going on right now, just picked up KOTOR 1 and 2 along with Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

Can only imagine a game with KOTOR's worlds to explore as well as Jedi Academy's combat system, would be the best Star Wars game yet.

Why hasn't anyone attempted it?

@Jackal  Well, hopefully someone at EA will get their head out of their ass and make it like the fans have been asking for over a decade now.

Sure we all want a KOTOR 3, but I don't know if they would make a KOTOR/JK3/JKA mash up. The combat system in JK3/JKA is legendary, I still remember assigning my middle mouse button to force grip, mouse wheel down to force pull, and mouse wheel up to force push, can almost feel the force playing it through! Not to mention the countless LAN parties I had during my childhood with the skill-based saber duels.

It's a far cry from the tactics-based systems of DAO and KOTOR1,2 but KOTOR never really had a good tactics system to  begin with compared to DAO. Some folks may also object to the change, but I wonder about the opinions of those who have played JK3/JKA, and I still reckon combining the systems of the two games would make a game like never seen before. But I can only wish...

@Jackal I remember the lightsaber controls for JK and it was fun and memorable.  I have to agree a merger between the systems would translate well for a Star Wars game or even a Dragon Age game.

I've been watching a lot of indie horror game videos to see where I don't want to go.   Lot of flashlight use,  too dark environments and reliance on jump scares.  It might be good for VR, but my interest lies more within combining a surreal, beautiful atmosphere with a creepy lingering feel.

The last "horror" game that gave me any sense of dread was the Thief series, before the horrible reboot. Return to the Cathedral/Shalebridge Cradle... *shivers* Think it's because of the unscripted nature of alot of the scares there, the creepy animations and sound design (seriously the sound design for the Thief series was unparalled in its time.

Glad to know others have played JK! I doubt EA would make it like we want though, their focus is always in making everything shallow and casual. JK's mechanics is skill-based combat and it's far from the direction they are taking with the SW license. We may never see a game like this, unless someone makes an indie version of JK's mechanics and then others make a TC mod - only way to get around the license.

I've been a fan of the series since the old original darkforces.

Heh yeah and it was huge strides from there, DF2:JK brought saber combat, then JK3 fine tuned it, then JKA perfected it... and then nothing...

Thanks. I got the particle foliage to work!

Particle system at work!

PS  I really thought it was going to be a pain. It literally took me 10 minutes to figure out how to implement and add.   Now, I'm off to tackle the pain that is night/day cycle and weather system.

New screenshots with second layer added

Akira and I did a big charity dog walk today- the theme was 'sports carnival' and we had to come dressed as our favourite team...

Saving the galaxy is a team sport, right? :)

So I've started playing ME again, because well it's awesome and I have been thinking about starting it up again for a few months now. I remember having a conversation on here about the trilogy quite a while ago and I said that it was probably my all time favourite game series because when I played it,, it was all I could think about.

Well I started today and quit just after we docked at Citadel for the first time because real life beckoned, and you know what? I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.

I love this game, I love all three of them. As much as I want DAO or DDDA to be my favourite game of all... it has to be the Mass Effect games. I kind of love them all equally I think, because they all do something better than each other so it's hard to distinguish one out of the three. And for me, Citadel and MEHEM make up for the abomination of the original ending of 3.

I really hope they do ME:A right... it could be great...

Yeah the ME team has always done right by me, the extended cut did enough for me to redeem them, citadel restored my faith in it too. Lost faith in the direction of the DA series though, and the "hardening" of EA/Bioware staff since the ME3 debacle. Also not very happy with the direction of EA games as a whole.

On the cautious side now with the company.

Yep, the one I spent 5k on. Luckily reverting only reset my settings... still annoying though.

As for bioware/ea... I started being weary around da2... then that was reinforced with ea's usual style trumping common sense approach to me2-3... culminating in the mess that is dai.

My only real complaints against 2&3 (aside from the obvious re 3) was that they replaced boots on the ground exploration with the galaxy map mini game crap. It wasn't so bad in 2 mind, since it was mainly mining, but by 3 it had become ridiculous, with all the fun stuff (like the Elcor Migration, forget the horrible ending, I will never forgive them for robbing me of my Elcor rescue project!) happening off screen. And don't get me started on the 'flee the Reapers' mini game malarkey...

I can only assume the Galaxy map BS in 3 was the precursor to the craptastic War table BS of DA:I and if they do the same thing in ME:A it will be the deal breaker for me.

But other than that, I loved the story, loved the combat, loved the character progression -though that might be more to do with me using the gayshep hack in ME and romancing Kaiden so there is a tortured romance carried out across all three, it is seriously heart wrenching when they meet up briefly in ME:2 and their reunion in 3 is sweet as.

So for me, the ME series is not tainted the way the DA series is by 2 and DA:I, but DA:I has made me incredibly skeptical of the company in general so I am trying to curb my hope for ME:A. But it is a persistent thing, my hope is...

@Lunafancy  The storytelling is still there in ME3 but it just felt too streamlined and linear.  ME1&2 made me feel like I was making choices that made a difference.   3 just didn't feel like I was exploring at all.

I agree 100%, Peregrinus. But then there is Citadel, which was like the biggest apology since Highlander 3. And what an apology it was! Sitting on the roof shooting cans with Garrus will always be my favourite gaming moment I think.

But, again, you're right, they stream lined it too far and something important was lost... and that's why I am reluctant to raise my hopes for ME:A.

But a tiny, persistent voice keeps whispering 'but what if they've learned from the criticism of DA:I and ME:3 and are back in the game? What if this is the best game they've ever made?'

And hope starts to grow....
