Like for example, if I read on the boards that somebody wants to congratulate Bio for making such a great pc UI, my reaction would be...

Mechwarrior... good god!... there was a lot of strafing in that game to survive...

... LOL.

Great game, fun community. I died so much in multiplayer but it was a lot of good times. Did you ever try a gem called Heavy Gear?  I played that quite a bit online.

Nope... and I'm not much of a MP guy..... did play a lot of MP with ME, however... liked that alot.... because I wanted my Galactic Readiness to be 100% to help me win in ME3

That turned out to be a shiny, pink wrapped turd.

I never really did much with ME3 MP- and I felt really split about the ending in SP but accepted it as "well it had to end sometime". I do have to say I loved the hell out of the story, though and I still cry when I think about Mordin heading up to the tower :(

Okay! I'm here!

Hello fellow passionate PC gamers! THIS IS MY KIND OF GROUP! UNH!

From now on, I am posting all Bioware-related stuff here and I will run ideas and improvements for the game with you guys first so I sound rational and politically-correct for the official forums.

My real name is David. All of you in this group are now adopted and can call me Uncle David or Uncle Dave. No, I'm not that touchy-feely weird guy every relative says don't ask about. I'm just an old nerd who cut his teeth on a Commodore 64 and tape drive. I've had a lot of consoles in my life and like all consoles, gather dust in my attic or were given away to relatives or friends who could use them. I currently don't own any consoles right now because I still believe that PCs (even tablet/hybrid combinations) still have an edge about them. I mean MOUSELOOK is so freaking faster than any joystick. Boom! Target acquired.

I live in San Antonio. I'm a former Army medic who served from 1989-1997 and earned my CFMB in Mogadishu. I am married to a wonderful wife and I have two dogs. I currently work as a contractor for a heavy pipe manufacturing unit just outside of town. I'm an avid gamer, a Christian, a nerd, a baseball fan (I'm originally from New York, so it's the Bombers for me), play men's softball (can't wait for next season. I'm still younger than most of the old farts on the team so I plan to hit a lot more triples.) and a Bioware fan since MDK. I also follow what's going on with old Bioware guys (Obsidian, Betheda, InXile, etc.) because I really, really like RPGs. Boware made incredible use of the D&D license and I'm an old Dungeon Master. Yeah, make fun of me. I don't care. I had so many great (no, EPIC) nights at the gaming table with friends.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I know my writing is a little hard to read since I can go on and on with the use of so many conjunctions, but I digress. I can't apologize for it because that's how I am coded.

Again, thank you.

Welcome, and you should read back through the intro posts, too :) Lots of similarities here (well, maybe not Mogadishu- but thank you for your service, by the way) to a lot of others- including passion for gaming in general. Myself and a few others created this as a space where we could freely discuss things without suffering a threadlock for being offtopic and/or could moderate the group and keep it free from "trolling", or "baiting" and keep it mature and expressive but also respectful.

I'd like your intro but I'm outta "likes" today (server rule) so I'll IOU :)

Hi All :) Thanks for the invite!

I've been on the boards since early BSN days.. I think. My memory is fuzzy. I started playing games on the original Atari, and when I got my Vic20 I wrote my own with the cassette tape using BASIC. Never got a C64 after, though, not sure why.

I played the original NWN before Bioware's version (the orig was on AOL back in the day). I've tried various MMOs.. DAOC, Guild Wars 2, other stuff, loved the original EQ before they changed everything. I tried to go back and play but went to Everquest 2 instead. Still play that.. crafting and decorating is fun :)

Tried SWTOR for a while, got all crafters to max level but there were just too many PVPers who don't leave you alone to get your blasted class quests done. I started on a PVP server because everyone I knew wanted to start there, then they all left. lol.. so I'm in the process of moving all of my characters to a PVE server, so now they sit, half on each. Too bad I can't sell my account, I have crafting materials out the ears.

I run princessstabbity.com if anyone was wondering where that article was going to appear that I mentioned. Since Bioware chose that very afternoon to pipe up that they were still working on the patch, I held off publishing it. I don't like to add to negativity; if they have their rears in gear there is no use in my lighting another fire under their butts. I have it waiting if we don't hear anything for another extended period, though.

Oh, and Brogan, I started but stopped. I'm avoiding spoilers, too, because I'm waiting for some type of KBM fix/change. I just can't play it the way it is, it takes all enjoyment out of it for me.

Nice to meet you all! :)

Hi All :) Thanks for the invite!

(snip to save screen real estate, not to detract from content :))

Welcome! And I also owe you a like- apparently you can only give out so many in one day. :) Make sure you read back through intro posts so you know what you're getting yourself in.... err um so you know who we all are :)

I'm Leah btw and glad to meet you. (and I never finished DA:I either, for same reasons)

I read them all first, and great to meet you too! So many older gamers here.. loved all the C64 posts.. I feel right at home with my grey  :P

I did have the thought maybe I should try a mage. I started with a DW Dwarf rogue and that may be part of the problem, as the combat just exacerbates my "uuurrrrgh" over the controls. If I can just stand there and cast maybe that would ease some of the pain.

Hi to all!

I am not quite as tech savvy as I get from your backgrounds, but I do have one thing that has bugged me since Mark Darrah made our famous topic.

I used to develop software that interfaced to big iron databases, Oracle, DB2, MSSQL and so on. The user interface was a windows application. To save the problem of supporting a different UI for each database system, which would be a nightmare, we used one windows UI talking to an interface. The interface talked to the database system. The interface could be changed as required, recompiled and so you would have an app that could talk to MSSQL and another that could talk to Oracle. It worked very well. Now with 4 consoles plus PC it does seem to be the same problem all over again.

Build your base DAI and just plug in a UI as required, or am I being way to simplistic?

An example, if you wanted to get a list of all Drakestone in your inventory, you would call "getDrakestone", DB2 would have different call structure to Oracle. All the Oracle interface does is call the Oracle procedure, the DB2 does its own call.

All DAI's are the same! XBox360, PS3, PS4, PC.

I am ready to be shot down!!

I've often read that Archers and Mages (both ranged) have a much better go of the experience, however the only one I have tried is Archer (DW rogue is my fave too but.... sigh) and the experience was.... merely satisfactory? Not really sure how to say it- but it's almost as if I had to keep myself at range just because of the controls being so laggy/unnatural and not really being able to melee very well (gah! no autoattack!!!) etc.

Mage is awesome. Has good specialisation too. I lasted 10 mins with DW rogue! Ranged chars work well with this %$#@ KB/M stuff

Hi to all!

I am ready to be shot down!!

*takes quick aim* Eh, nah.... :P

Just kiddin', welcome :) I don't think anyone's comparing backgrounds here.

As far as the interface programming... one would think (logically, anyway) that it really would have been much easier to transfer console port to PC- but it apparently didn't happen as "smoothly" as they had planned. My "assumption" (not having a way to verify) would be they used a layer of programming between in order to translate commands to PC hardware- which is what's causing so many of the issues. Similar to the HAL in Windows NT+ (yeah I need to stop showing my nerdiness here) and how it interacted with PC hardware for security reasons.

ex 11B here so welcome to the old fogey gaming channel.  :)  It is rather interesting that ex-military folks like us lean towards RPGs and discovered Bioware from the MDK days.   Although, I do have a weakness for Warhammer 40k RTS.

Welcome to any and all!

In order to keep this group alive, to make it expand and be able to provide a safe haven for old gamers like us against the Rage and Fury of Fanboys and Trolls, and HAVE FUN while talking on the forums, I 'd like to respectfully submit to you all some 'guidelines':

Step 1. Try to identify 'good gamers' on threads; here's how I do it: each time you notice a funny, balanced and useful post on any topic, go to the user's profile and check their likes.  You should be able to see if this isa gamer you want to be part of this group easily.

Step 2. Invite this GOOD GAMER of the DAY of yours to this group and ask him to repeat Step 1

Step 3: Help Sylveria and I find three more managers/mods: we need someone from NA, someone from Europe ,and someone from Asia/Australia. If we get this three or better six people, we will be able to (i) hold the fort, aka as this Group, the Master PC community concerns Thread and the Patch one, against Trolls and (ii) continue to make our voices heard on the BSN and the Web

Step 4: in case or Troll or Fanboy attack, be sarcastic and snarky: that's the way of things today on the Web and call for support by PM Sylveria, me or others if needed

What do you guys think?
