I just learned a new word - hubris. Honestly, didn't knew that before. Tought to me in the Bioware forums, oh the irony. :D

As non-english-speaking person I learned that word in DA Origins. Irony  ;) .

The main quests of the game are done quite well as you can imagine as despite my criticism I've consistently praised the writers/actors/artists and I should also praise the sound and music. It's the gameplay and technical issues that hampen the experience, which unfortunately does affect how you view the writers/actors/artists/composers' work.

For me its both, I thought the main quests were mostly silly and not well done. I did like the personal quests though and appreciate the things they brought in from the books.

But the gameplay and controls are terrible.
I don't understand why the screen (main screen and Inventory screen) can't be reduced in size.
And if its an action game why backwards is still turn around and run forward. Also why not be able to cast and run at the same time - since the tactics aren't very usable.

OK guys n gals, it seems a whole lot happened on the official forums while I slept the night away and I'm having a hard time catching up.

Something about a lot of bans and maybe post deletions?

Am I misinterpreting what I've managed to read?

Can somebody give me the short-form?

Mimicking BW PR campaign before DAI's launch I can only add: "DAI is all about choices... Questionable design choices".

Marketed as a PC game but a console port - I agree. Seriously "Bioware" has to start grabbing marketing by its balls, it's disgraceful. However, can also be said they were just doing their jobs, not to mention those departments gauge performance by numbers. Ethics can get very blurry.

My criticism with the story/quests lies in the lack of RP options, which I don't think is the writers' fault, they could have fleshed it out, told the story better in more segments but some of their work may not have ended up in the final cut.

Well I don't know much about that, but here's one very vocal guy who got banned:

http://forum.bioware...-of-the-forums/

Mods went nazi-style on him

I don't know, like hell I still have zero warning points and I've been waiting for a ban. Don't know how I'm getting away with everything considering how vocal I have been since launch.

I digress, I know why, but seriously, his concerns are as valid as anyone elses.

Vocal is ok.

Disrespect, name-calling, and calling for people to be fired is not.

I don't recall you doing that.

Agree, much of the writing is excellent. It just seems the main plot was strung together with big plot devices and seemed off. That's not the writers but the exec in charge of pulling the piece together.

Integrity also has also gotten blurry.

Well I finally got caught up on the PC thread, the Patch thread, and here ...

Those are the three that I try to keep up on.

Seems like "business as usual" on BiowEAre's part.

Now that I'm cross-eyed from reading all this I'll go back to trying to figure out how to get SweetFX to work with VtM:B with the Final Nights mod ...

I had forgotten how cool a character Smiling Jack is.

Reading Cyan's stuff makes me sad that I pulled all my DA fanfic a while back--as part of my RL job I do research, editing, storyboarding and fact-checking (especially for internal consistency, etc) for published authors so I removed a lot of my worst writing from the 'net. The DA story was just for me, so it wasn't good--it didn't have structure, blah blah. I was going to update my "main character's" story post-Inquisition [ironically, it's partly about my HoF girl looking for a way to remove the Taint and running into Hawke & Anders in the process], (I'd call it "The Hero of Ferelden, The Champion of Kirkwall and The Inquisitor Walk into a Bar...") but I just don't have time to update/rewrite it. It's terrible, anyhow. And over 300 pages.

Gods, I do go on. A lot.

For now, speaking as an army brat (my father was in the Australian Services), Mr Griffonclaw, I just want to say "thank you." :)

I applaud you all for your drive and creativity and really hope that something comes about!
You're all grand folk and I am sure good things will happen.

I'd put my name down for writing -- I have a degree in it, not that that means much! However I've got to write a bloody 10,000 word piece for my further studies and may not have time.

Maybe I will, I don't know yet.

Cyran and Peregrinus have already shared some stellar examples of their writing.

So well done! :)

Since I like sharing my work (and am a megalomaniac), I'll post part of one of the stories I got published in a uni magazine. It's part of a larger piece, but I basically edited around the more prose-y, ethereal and ambiguous stuff, and compiled those bits in a single piece.

Salted Love

There’s more to the sea than salt and water, though it may taste that way at first. When I’m here, I can taste the earth and I can taste time. Most keep their eyes closed, afraid of the salt, not letting the sea in. When you invite the sea, it treats you well. Better than any man or woman. I open my eyes and let the salt water ravage and blur my sight, but my vision is not impaired—this is just another way to see.

I descend to speak with Poseidon. The great sea god sits on the rocks beneath a lighthouse—a cold, hard, wet throne. We blow bubble rings that drift up to the cruel surface. I ask him how to be happy, and he gives me a shell. I hold it to my ear and inside it is the ocean. To be happy is to be here.

Have you ever been loved? Calypso loves me like no other has. When I breathe in her wet, suffocating presence, my skin prickles. She runs her cold hands over my chest and bites at my ears. We sink into the dark. Our clothing floats around us, suspended like jellyfish. I suck her neck and swallow a lungful of her. I erupt—a geyser in the depths. This is happiness, I whisper to Calypso.

Mer-people kiss at my body. They stroke away the tension and pull me lower, far away from the unkind place above. The unhappy place. Poseidon holds his hand out to greet me. Calypso sheds the seaweed draped over her shoulders. The sea takes me in its arms, and I am happy. This is where happiness is. Poseidon tightens his grip, Calypso ties her seaweed around my neck. They pull me under and drown me with their salted love.

I swear, not all of my writing is twisted, suicidal, nautical 'erotica' :P

Morning, afternoon, evening all. Migraine killing me..   I didn't think I would like twisted nautical erotica but I guess I do!   :)  Thank you for sharing.  :>

you guys think I should start rewriting my first novel? after 3 or 4 years I never made it past half finished, & I don't even have a basic outline for it anymore. I abandoned it about 17 or so years ago.

Lot of the cool stories are on the loading screen which goes into a black screen well before you can finish reading them.  :(
