It's usually my temper that does that. It's a great start!
Yo Nerds... Haha
I've been gaming since the Mid 70's... My uncle bought a Fairchild Channel F for his family and I couldn't get enough of it. Not long after the Atari 2600 came out and somehow I convinced my parents to get me one for Christmas.
The early 80's rolled around and I got hooked on arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac Man. Then I got my first "real" computer, the Atari 400. I got into early Atari BASIC (Rev.B!) programming and made a few piddly games that weren't all that good. Not to mention saving your code to cassette tapes wasn't always error-proof.
I got into TRS-DOS on the TRS-80 Model III in my high school years. Around this time I was introduced to what is now Basic D&D by my friend Mike who was also our DM. At this point I decided that with his help, we could completely code the D&D rulebook as a series of modules on the TRS-80. We slaved over that thing every weekend for as long as I can remember. When it was all done, we had a multi-faceted program that could roll a character from scratch using any of the approved rolling methods... Or you could manually enter your stats and create a preexisting character. It was fully aware of XP levels, every spell/skill available at what level for every class and would prevent "cheat" characters from being created. It also understood all the tables and information from the DM guide and was capable of generating random encounters/loot when needed for applicable party numbers/levels. It even had the entire creature compendium of the era at it's beck and call. We were really proud of it and we used and expanded it until the TRS-80 finally ceased functioning in the mid 90's. I have *no* idea where the 5 1/4" floppy disks with all that code on them are, now. I doubt they would even be readable now. We once tried to convert it all to MS-DOS BASIC, but the differences were so vast and hand transcoding all of that text was just too tough for us.
I built my first PC in the mid 90's... A Badass Intel 80486DX4-100... This bad boy had 32 MEGABYTES of RAM! Bask in the glory! Diamond Stealth 64 VESA Local Bus video! Woweee! Western Digital Caviar 600MB HDD! What a BEAST!
Played all the old school PC standards... Wolfenstein 3D... Doom and it's descendants... Quake and whatnot... Really got into Hexen and Heretic series. Played virtually every MechWarrior and the clones like Heavy Gear.
MMO's... First one was Ultima Online... Others were EverQuest 1 & 2, Anarchy Online, Earth and Beyond, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, Dungeons & Dragons Online, World of Warcraft, Star Trek, Star Wars (Old Republic, not the other one), And I still have a lifetime sub to Lord of the Rings Online. If SWTOR would have offered that, I would have... Glad they didn't. I've even played Scarlet Blade... Please don't google that last one if you've never heard of it. Really. What? You already did... I'm sorry.
I've played virtually every BioWare game except the Icewind Dale series. Just never got them, no reason, really. In face, NWN was the first time I noticed "jiggle physics" on a female character (Lady Arabeth, was it?)
I only played DA:O all the way through three times... And the last playthrough that I loaded before BioWare "locked" the player portal wasn't one of my finished games. My Favorite Warden was my Female Dwarven Royal Rogue. She was a no-nonsense get it done Paragon. And she never actively romanced anyone... Ain't Nobody Got Time For That! Of course she's worm food now, so Alistair could be King and marry the barren woman, Anora. :/
I skipped DA2... My brother bought it early on and he told me I wouldn't care for the "console peasant port".. I've since thought I might buy it just to check it out... I suppose I can still buy it on Origin.
Loved Mass Effect... While I've always liked RPG type games... Space and Tech themed are always my favorite. I've played tons of ME1... Only played through ME2 once... and played ME3 twice. Both times as the usual Paragon... I just put more time into the side quests.
ME3MP.... that I played the ever-loving heck out of. My ME3MP N7 HD Page. Top 4% in challenge points globally. I need a life... ![]()
Anyway, enough blathering on.... Other than I did wanna give a big "Hooah!" to Uncle David. I had the pleasure of doing my AIT at Fort Sam Houston back in '90. I didn't do anything all that special in the Army... I just made Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner in the Hospital. Today it's 68M... Back then it was 91M. Did my time in Nuremberg at the 98th General Field Hospital.
Hello, my name is *insert your name* and I'm addicted to games. I've never played Mario, Pacman, nor Pong, I started with text Hobbit on my brother's C64 (see, I'm not that ancient) and learned Basic in the process, but that's completely different story, a boring one.
I don't play on console simply because console is a device for gaming only, PC can be used for more than one purpose, my room has only three things in it - bed, closet and a workstation (gutted PC, bunch of wires, mc programming circuits), I don't want to clutter it with useless objects.
I don't consider myself 'good gamer', but if you love games for more than 20 years, you might get annoyed if nightmare difficulty seems like a walk in a park.
My husband (who loves games as much as I do) thinks I'm DA fangirl because I'm crying over how bad DA:I is, instead of moving on. I'm unable to squee tho, tried once but it didn't go well.
I'm hardcore/oldschool/stuck in '80ies RPG nerd, I prefer cyberpunk over steampunk; feudal settings are very low on my list, but I'm open if something is interesting and fresh. I hate Witcher (not the game, i played 1st one only, maybe i'll try the 3rd; I read the book when I was in highschool; I'm from Poland), I dislike Skyrim - the game is a chore, I don't mind open worlds as long as the story/world ratio is right (F:NV). I play Sith only in SWtoR and I generally enjoy being evil and mad in games more than goody two shoes (because that's f...n boring).
I don't play MP, but did my share of PvP-ing in WoW (shadow priest for life!).
I never enjoyed BW games much, I was more in the Black Isle alley (Fallout, Planescape Torment). That changed with DA:O.
Oh... I'm a troll and a Terry Pratchett fan.
EDIT: oh and i'm 29

You should definitely get it.
Contrary to popular belief on the Net, DA2 is a very good (just not on par with DAO) and strategic game if you can tolerate:
(i) the reused environments (rushed development cycle by EA;
(ii) the lack of the Hero Story: you're no savior of the world there, just a 'regular' guy or gal who start being a war refugee and having money problems;
(ii) the 'consolized' look of the combat (it's only a look, DA2 is a lot more difficult and tactical than DAO imho)
(iii) the waves of enemies (aka as paratroopers), you'll see.
Anyway, welcome to the Group!

Welcome, you dirty Pol... (kidding, my wife-to-be is second generation Polish). Seriously, you hate it? Even the short novels?
I thought they were pretty impressive. The whole 'Blood of the Elves' series is a little too high fantasy for me but still.

HOOAH! Cooks are the best. There were many days when you're day revolved when the next meal would come. On those occasions, you people were God sends. Civilians don't realize that most Army and Air Force cooks are just a few classes away from being a chef. I never got sick to my stomach. Now, I have to be real careful where we eat otherwise my stomach is a mess.

nope, not my cup of tea. Sapkowski is feudal to the core and Geralt is annoying. i like the bestiary tho, it's rare to encounter such creatures (strzyga, lady midday) in gaming/literature/movies.

He is feudal yes...medieval even. I suppose that Sapkovski's work prevalence in your country may be a little annoying, too.
The bestiary is impressive, yes, I thought the video game did a pretty good job or building 'Kill x quests' with Geralt's job (killing monsters) as the center of things.
The use of Slavic mythology was very impressive for me: being an avid reader of fantasy, I was fed up with elves and stuff ('Celtic' mythology, Tolkien), trolls and dragons (Saxon mythology, tolkien) and so on...
but I'll stop pestering you with the Witcher, welcome again

I've often read that Archers and Mages (both ranged) have a much better go of the experience, however the only one I have tried is Archer (DW rogue is my fave too but.... sigh) and the experience was.... merely satisfactory? Not really sure how to say it- but it's almost as if I had to keep myself at range just because of the controls being so laggy/unnatural and not really being able to melee very well (gah! no autoattack!!!) etc.
I got through the game on Normal difficulty using a gamepad and my half-used mouse. I did it as a mage. I have switched to Iron Bull as a warrior and doggone it I am swinging at nothing but the air in front of me. As a mage, you have the luxury of stand-still combat. Drop barriers and attack safely (usually if the freaking assigned tank cycles back to a preferred challenge skill) from a distance. Tactics are kind of stupid. You will see a lot of the spells do area damage. Make sure you turn off friendly damage otherwise playing a mage is going to be even more frustrating than swinging a sword and not being near the target. I hate that. In Origins, when I casted fireball or area of effect spell, I knew there was a strong possibility of collateral damage. I usually made sure the tactic options were focused on either healing, single enemy attacks or buffing. Here in Inquisition, drop Chain Lightning to your heart's content.

Yay! Shadow Priest rule! I had several, Dranei, Gnome and Human. Enchanter, herbalist, Engineer! Covered all bases.
They were good!
Ashen, give Bethgael an invite! She is an awesome lady and she has great gifs! lol
She just lifted the tone of Community Concerns when she posted.
Thanks for the invite, Ashen!
I was going to stay away from the forums because the whole thing with DAI just gets me riled up and it is making me feel pretty negative towards Bioware.
But I think it was a great idea starting this group, which I believe could be much more constructive and less prone to violence. ![]()
Thinking of trying Mass Effect if the patch doesn't come through.
Never played it, so any suggestions?
1,2 then 3? Or is there a particular edition above all else?

I would recommend playing all 3 in succession. It is an ongoing story with the same protagonist so that approach would make sense and your saves import to the next game.
Hey there ladies and gents!
Thanks for the invite and it's a pleasure to see a lot of friendly faces here.
My gaming background is similar to most of yours. Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Daggerfall, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Diablo, Divinity, Dead Space, Fallout, Dungeon Siege, Amalur, The Witcher.... From the new games, I like The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, Bastion, Limbo and Torchlight. My favourite game is Heroes of Might and Magic III, I know some of you are laughing at me right now.
I'm not much of an MMO person. I played Ultima Online back in high school days and played The Elder Scrolls Online until my 6 month sub expired. I was one of the well-known Nightblades in EU server. After my sub expired, I did not feel like renewing it, since the game is far from my expectations.
Here's my gaming profile in short. Again, good to be here!

my geographic location defined my mindset only indirectly. sadly, i'm not disconnected to my country entirely, but internet helps a lot, (even if my friends still prefer to read in polish than english, thus exposure to Sapkowski's books)
anyway... something fresh (Slavic mythology) is a reason why i'm anticipating Witcher 3, not being a fan, yet still interested. as well as in new Tamriel story (please no dragons, you have your unique daedras, stick to them!)
I like elves. bonus points for being a space elf. Tuvoc even had a bow!
double post O_o
move along
Hi all,
OK, a proper introduction:
My name is Désirée aka DragonsDream aka DD. I'm a 46 year old American filmmaker from Long Beach California married to a Swedish women and now living in Stockholm Sweden (because every forum needs an opinionated lesbian in their ranks!)
I am not a gamer. Or at least, I wouldn't describe myself as one. Not since I gave up D&D as a teen. I spent 10 years playing nothing but SP/LAN Diablo II and only recently (last 5 years) expanded to clones like Titan Quest and Torchlight II. We own an Xbox360 and so far have used it to play Skylanders and a couple of Lego games. On PC we played Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2. My wife and I spent 100+ hours on our one playthrough of DA:O, thanks to using every decent mod we could find that added areas, quests and companions*. That's actually fairly typical for us: we commit to one game and spend 6 months to a year playing it to the limit, every class, every variation, always full clears, etc.
We never got around to playing DA2. Inquisition looked awesome though and we preordered it so we could get the deluxe content, something we had never done before.
As I mentioned in the other PC thread, we quit playing almost immediately after the character creation screen when we learned there were no usable kb+m controls. So here we are now, waiting for some sort of fix so I can play what looks to be an awesome game. I am thinking in the meantime, while we wait, to either finish Awakenings then play DA2 or try out ME1,2 & 3.
*No we didn't find a hidden MP version of the game, we just played mostly simultaneously, her on her computer and me on mine.
Ashen, give Bethgael an invite! She is an awesome lady and she has great gifs! lol
She just lifted the tone of Community Concerns when she posted.
I already did, I even asked her to become a mod/admin! She is our Aussie comedian/Light of reason. Maybe she is sleeping, since she is from Australia?

buy the classic edition or something in the UK. I think you get the most from evrything (check amzon.co.uk) got a great deal. Get it on PS3 or PC. ME is a masterpiece. the DLc's are good too. I think you got all of them in said edition except from ME3

yep it's a good start
Hey fellas, thanks for the invite
I'm an old PC fart, first game I ever played was Prince of Persia, the DOS game that had such fluid animations (think it was one of the first - or THE first - with motion capture).
Been a Bioware fan for 16 years since BG, loved it, including TotSC, BG2 and ToB. Gave up on Bioware for a while when they went the console route, Xbox exclusive and the like, returned and played KOTOR/JE/ME on PC, all games impressed me. DAO is my second favorite Bioware masterpiece, after BG2+ToB.
Not an MMO fan, I have a copy of WoW somewhere, packed in a box, was a gift. Still haven't opened it, I'll eventually get to it... maybe. Most recent MP game I got into was Mount & Blade Warband (logged perhaps 1000+ hours in it throughout the years - very high replay value), before that, Unreal Tournament / Quake 3 - not so happy with either since I enjoyed the SP aspects of Unreal/Quake. All new FPSs are clones to me, but that's just coming from an old fart like me ![]()
Also a strategy fan, still remember trying to play C&C for the first time, using the arrow keys, wondering how to play. Played SC for a while too. Also TBSs, Heroes of Might and Magic III was gold, also Age of Wonders / SMAC. Big supporter of the PC indies, innovation is apparent in the indie market, first indie supported is Mount and Blade, latest indie I support is Planet Explorers (already logged 200 hrs last year with the alpha - very playable)
So yeah, always been a versatile gamer, with a high tolerance... yet DAI shocked me with its console port... ![]()
How you play the game is in direct correlation of the gameplay experience, no matter how pretty the graphics/great the story/gameplay etc etc. Also disappointed with removal of AI tactics / awkward tactical camera.
Bioware was on a roll before DA2/ME3 from my perspective. I see potential in DAI, however with such limited dev/player interaction and FB3 engine (no modding kit) I question if it will ever be realised.
Anyway Toby, ME series is great IMO, start from 1, it's worth it, however don't play ME3 without the extended cut / citadel DLC, especially the former (which is free).
