Yay! Shadow Priest rule! I had several, Dranei, Gnome and Human. Enchanter, herbalist, Engineer! Covered all bases.

They were good!

What is a Shadow Priest?  Dark Cleric I guess? Never played online myself

Not an MMO fan, I have a copy of WoW somewhere, packed in a box, was a gift. Still haven't opened it, I'll eventually get to it... maybe. Most recent MP game I got into was Mount & Blade Warband (logged perhaps 1000+ hours in it throughout the years - very high replay value), before that, Unreal Tournament / Quake 3 - not so happy with either since I enjoyed the SP aspects of Unreal/Quake. All new FPSs are clones to me, but that's just coming from an old fart like me :)

[snip]

'Sup!

Dude, I got a trial for WoW some time ago to see what all the fuss is about....and I was absolutely SHOCKED at how so many people can go so crazy for it. Horrible horrible game. I was confused - still am.

I have yet to even try it to see lol

In fact, the only time I ever watched WoW gameplay was in that South Park Episode: Make love, not warcraft

That's pretty much how (un)interested I am with the game

Welcome to any and all!

In order to keep this group alive, to make it expand and be able to provide a safe haven for old gamers like us against the Rage and Fury of Fanboys and Trolls, and HAVE FUN while talking on the forums, I 'd like to respectfully submit to you all some 'guidelines':

Step 1. Try to identify 'good gamers' on threads; here's how I do it: each time you notice a funny, balanced and useful post on any topic, go to the user's profile and check their likes.  You should be able to see if this isa gamer you want to be part of this group easily.

Step 2. Invite this GOOD GAMER of the DAY of yours to this group and ask him to repeat Step 1

Step 3: Help Sylveria and I find three more managers/mods: we need someone from NA, someone from Europe ,and someone from Asia/Australia. If we get this three or better six people, we will be able to (i) hold the fort, aka as this Group, the Master PC community concerns Thread and the Patch one, against Trolls and (ii) continue to make our voices heard on the BSN and the Web

Step 4: in case or Troll or Fanboy attack, be sarcastic and snarky: that's the way of things today on the Web and call for support by PM Sylveria, me or others if needed

What do you guys think?

On reflection I am having some reservations about the "free-for-all" method and wonder if it might be better to start a separate thread in which we nominate prospective members.

This should allow everyone a chance to review the prospects posts and voice an opinion.

I do not propose we vote, invitation would be left for our mods to decide.

This will also prevent the prospects from being spammed with dozens of invites, and making us look like a pack of over-eager puppies.

Just a thought ...

EDIT:

On the other hand, the free-for-all method seems to be working very well so far.

You might be right on this part.  what I proposed was to trust the people I've monitored closely for 4 months or less, since I've always done Step 1 on the BSN, to expand 'virally'.

Honestly I dk, do we look like puppies?

Yo Nerds... Haha

(snipped for screen real estate, not to detract from content)

Welcome to the group! :)

Hello, my name is *insert your name* and I'm addicted to games.

(snipped for screen real estate, not to detract from content)

Welcome to the group! I've never tried Witcher or any of the series personally- but for a different reason than most. (I won't get into it here in the welcome but if you'd like to know why feel free to ask.) :)

Hello, and thank you so much for the invite. Glad to join.

(snipped for screen real estate, not to detract from content)

Welcome to the group! :) FYI I loved reading your storied journal fragments. Awesome reads. Curious to see what happens once the group finds a "safe haven" :) (yeah I know it's too late or Paul)

Thanks for the invite, Ashen!

(snipped for screen real estate, not to detract from content)

But I think it was a great idea starting this group, which I believe could be much more constructive and less prone to violence. :)

Welcome to the group, Dub :)

Hey there ladies and gents!

Welcome to the group! :)

Hi all

Welcome! And yes, I have to concur that the ME series (especially for those who enjoy sci-fi themes as well as RPG) is a wonderful series- however I have to warn that in the first one the rover missions get sort of tedious (you'll see what I mean). NWN 1+2, I spent quite a few hours in NWN 1 myself and with friends.... not so much with 2, as the camera interface got tiresome, and it just felt awkward. Someday I'm hoping I'll have the patience for it... because I really did love the story and gameplay in 1.

Anyway, welcome again to those whose intros I missed- feel free to post/talk, this group is mainly meant as a place to gather/talk/hangout/discuss PC gaming in general. And no, you don't have to be a "hardcore PC gamer" to be here, or even discuss. (full disclosure, I actually loathe min/maxers...) :) Enjoy!

I never really did much with ME3 MP- and I felt really split about the ending in SP but accepted it as "well it had to end sometime". I do have to say I loved the hell out of the story, though and I still cry when I think about Mordin heading up to the tower :(

Anybody save Mordan and killed the Krogans? 'cause I think it made no difference which way you went on this one.

ELITE was awesome. I played many hours of that on C-64. The Last Ninja, LN 2, etc. as well.

The new one... mmm not really sure if I'm going to get it yet. I'm definitely going to be getting Star Citizen if it continues the direction it's heading. Always loved flight sims and with RPG/Sci-Fi combo it would be an awesome setting.

Definitely played Pong and quite a few Atari games, too. River Raid was pretty fun.

Have both ED and Star Citizen enjoying them greatly part of a good Star Citizen Org( 1st Royal Aerospace Squadron)feel free to look us up when you get the game

I know I'm being a total contrarian, but I actually like NWN2 better. I loved the story, no matter how much your choices didn't matter (OK, the trial was tedious) but mostly I loved playing a Warlock, which is probably coloring my memories a bit.

Originally they started out as mainly a "Dark Cleric" but then evolved into many hybrid types because they didn't quite fit the "holy trinity" roles- they've always been good at one thing, DPS. (subjective because of a series of nerfs)

I played quite a few different classes but my favorite (and original) two were Druid and Warlock (even ignoring the names of the classes for inaccuracy) because I've always prefered utility classes that have much more to offer than a single role (not "just" a tank or "just" a healer, etc.)

Then came the pandas... sigh. Yep that was the end of my love affair with WoW, and I've never looked back. I even tried going back and buying the Pandaria expansion after a year+ hiatus and still couldn't bring myself to want to play.

Oh, I better keep you away from my wife then. She would create Excel spreadsheets for Diablo II or Torchlight 2 just to determine where putting a skill point would give her better DPS and would spend more time in ATMA finding the best equipment than actually playing sometimes. As an old school D&D player it drives me nuts. OTH, I do often get the benefit of her obsessive work so I can't complain too much.

Nothing contrarian about it, I think quite a few of us love some games more than others for a variety of reasons- no matter what the reasons, they are yours :) Curiously, I also chose a Warlock- then ended up with a Druid because I'm familiar with the class, then a Ranger because they were a little easier to manage minus the shapeshifting aspects.

You actually highlighted my main argument with min/maxers... which is when I spend more time "reading, researching and toying" with builds, etc. then it becomes more of a JOB and less fun. I suppose "my problem" is that my style of "work ethic" is I don't mix the two together- sure, I can have fun with what I do, but I don't play at work- and I don't work at play. Don't get me wrong- I'm an avid researcher, and I study practically everything regarding a class, game, etc. when I have an interest (I've been known to wiki surf for hours on end) and I'm also the sort of person who can read a technical manual without being bored :) I just know that when it's time to play, the last thing I want is to hamper myself with rules, regulations and procedures. (as a department manager I can tell you I deal with those enough daily... sigh)

Gaming is my release, my expression, and a true passion to pursue outside of the "normal, tedious" which we have to engage in daily. And RPG's are definitely my flavor because so often I can choose things to be different whereas in a world of fixed choices an realities, it's almost impossible to effect change. (not completely, but very difficult)

For those who think effecting change is easy... just think back on thousands of years of indoctrinated, ritualized teaching- and how it's structured societies and cultures. Then ask yourself again how possible it is to introduce change into this. :)

And yet you still play Eve Online , Sylveria? :P   Isn't this game supposed to be a kind of full time job? Or is the press sprouting bs again?

Oh I have said plenty to her about spending time preparing to play vs actually playing but ultimately, from her perspective, that planning is fun for her and increases her enjoyment of the game when she does play. She doesn't have a lot of time to play and doesn't play many games so she wants to maximize the ones she does play. I can understand that. I don't "get" it, and it's not what I would want to do, but then, I am not the one playing her game fo her. She plays her way and I play mine and in games where we can, we play together and bicker and argue about who screwed up allowing the other one to die just like a married couple should :)

Actually if you read my previous posts, you'll see I play SkillQueueOnline- and I would be considered a "casual carebear" at that (stereotypical labeling) because I really don't spend a lot of time in the game. The attraction to EVE for me was actually the space genre- which started with Earth and Beyond as an MMO (still kind of peeved they closed it... EA strikes again) and there's really not much and hasn't been much alternative until very recently. Now ELITE Dangerous is about the closest released game that would compare, however it's very "unfinished" from the reviews I've read, and Star Citizen still has a long way to go before release (at least if you look at the trend) although they're under a lot of pressure to save face lately and being rushed by many to "show them the money".

As for my future with EVE- I'm not sure. I may just leave the characters parked and move on at some point. I've got 2 accounts, one with 37M skill points and another with 16M or so (scout and industry alts) but really not finding much interest at present with them and the second account remains closed. From what I've seen of SC's development, if they actually deliver on all they've been promising, I can tell you the EVE community will definitely take a big hit, regardless of the vocal pundits.

Things I'm worried about with SC would be first and foremost are that they bit off more than they could chew with combining elements of gameplay, such as multi-crewed ships and interaction, etc.

this is exactly it- and I totally "get" it- similar to how I don't LARP but others enjoy it immensely. To me, it feels awkward, but I don't begrudge those who spend time, money and effort IRL to prepare for a couple hours of dressing in costumes, etc. (If I wanted to do this, I would have been an actress :)) I do, however, totally understand that it's all about the "experience" for them, the more memorable, the better. Not everyone functions the same, and we all may have similar or different interests but it's part of what makes us unique and human- rather than cookie-cutter carbon copies of each other. (eww can you imagine what the world would be like????)

All my EVE chars usually have the last name "Relden" FYI and Sylveria Relden just happens to be my "main" (eh, the one I spend the most time developing, you know how it goes) so if you ever do end up in game feel free to PM :) I actually never got into the exploration thing but always wanted to- scanning and stuff I learned but stuff like DED sites and all that I've never really understood. (missions were pretty straightforward in comparison)

My second account (scout/industry alts) was mainly set up for scouting and perhaps training up for running mining ops- the "main" actually has Mining Director V and can pilot Orcas etc. All it would take is sinking isk into the ships, links, etc. Only reason I haven't is I'm not about to throw 1-2B isk in ships and modules, links, etc out there so I can mine with two accounts LOL. Might as well put out a public notice and say "come gank me please!" for easy KM padding.

Names I use in EVE

Sylveria Relden

Serania Relden

Azadria Relden

Jin Relden

Mistana Relden

Jiya Relden

*disclaimer yeah I've been told many times that I shouldn't tie my alts together so people know who I am but I didn't set it up for "anonymity" so I really don't care. (and as I'm also fond of saying... "I'll start caring what you think  when you start paying my bills.")

Same name in SC too- Sylveria. I did look up the org, not really sure what they require however, it's showing as a "hardcore" org although there are a few choices of role (explore, enforcement and maybe SOG sound interesting).

For ED I'm still weighing it- I've heard there's really not a lot of actual "content" in the game currently and you spend most of your time frame-shifting around etc and while I enjoy scenery, I do need a little more engaging atmosphere. (hell even if it's NPC's scanning my cargo to keep me on my toes- and by "engaging" I don't mean a bunch of morons shooting each other measuring "epeen") I thought about exploration but from what I've read there's not much "reward" in it and it's really difficult to move upward by exploration alone (have to offset income loss with running cargo or something else)

I need a good joystick, anyhow- I actually started drawing up plans to build my own sim chair system, too. Not sure what I'm going to make it out of yet but I'm thinking perhaps tube steel and cotter pins so that I can adjust spacing/height with mounting systems, etc. (what can I say, I liked Legos as a kid, too)

I haven't looked into it a lot lately, but a year ago they had a *very* playable emulator.

I know about Net 7 - except I don't want an "emulator" I'd like the real thing- but when they closed the game, it was the end- regardless of whether people use the same software to keep the feeling alive... (people, community, experience, etc all gone) Anyway I'm sure if I really felt "that" desperate I'd load it up. I've just never really felt the need to do so.

As small as the community was with MP Freelancer, even that was sort of attractive- too bad it never really developed into a fully fledged MMO (keeping fingers crossed for SC again)
